Those were the coaches we were interviewing- definitely a clear way of communicating they don't want to do this September thing!

smackeddog @ 7/3/2020 4:49 AM
If this goes ahead and we take part, I'm presuming we wouldn't have the players who's options for next year we haven't picked up, so that would leave:

Mitch
Randle
Knox
RJ
Frank
DSJ
Bullock (we should pick up his option ASAP)
Iggy

Guess we'd fill out the rest with G-League guys or camp invites?

They don't mention if this will effect the standings and lottery position. It could prove to be an embarrassing tankathon tourney if it does

I think the idea is to just have it as a las vegas style summer league with no impact on the season standings, but giving the younger players a chance to get some more reps

It’s basically summer league and I don’t blame any team that decides to skip it.

Knicks roster will be thin.
TheGame @ 7/3/2020 2:01 PM
Our young guys could use the reps and the new coaching staff (if Miller is tired) could use the games to get ready for next season. We should participate.

I got to disagree. What if one of knicks injuries themselves or gets sick? For what? An extended summer league. I mean honestly basketball in general is pointless right now and this would be even more pointless.

BigDaddyG @ 7/3/2020 11:19 PM
Yeah...all of you laughing at NY the past few months...now you gotta watch us play. Revenge is a dish best served cold 👌 Seriously, why would the NBA do that to us....just let us set up our coaching staff and prepare for the draft. How many people are asking for this?

however the downside is if they are not starting next season until december or january that is 9 months without real competitive play! thats too long of a time! most likely the players will play pickup games and they will still run the risk of getting hurt or sick during that time. if they do get hurt, unfortunately its not like we will make the playoffs next year anyway. also its good to get the players acclimated with their coach, whoever that may be as well as accurately assess the roster before the draft the following month to see what we need.

Injury can happen any time.
Sept. Is a long way off and if need be the virus will be what it is.
Deal with all this shyt as it comes.
Knicks will have either kept Miller or replaced him by august.
The virus is what it is. Teams will have infected players. No bubble is safe. No player sitting at home doing nothing is not reality either.

IMHO, the NBA would be better off canceling the season and figure out the logistics to make future seasons possible.

The best solution would be to have a "Tier" system of play without a traditional format

Take the top 24 players in the league and form two teams. These are the players the fans pay the most to see play. Then create separate undercard teams based on tiers of experience/production in separate areas.

Mixed player rosters ensures no individual team will be gutted in a failed season. You lose the traditional playoffs and Finals and rivalry, but you offer some version of the sport for broadcasting purposes. Lower tiers can also have things like skills competitions, dunk contests, 3 point contests, etc to enhance the product.

The only way you can make the WNBA profitable is to create WNBA All Star teams and have them play against male competition not on the NBA level. Accomplished D2 college male players should do it.

A traditional season is too complicated. An entire team can be wiped out in days and then what? An emergency dispersal draft?

Trying to keep it "normal" is going to kill the league. The game has to modify, at least this potential season, to account for attrition.
