Knicks · Agree with coach K (page 1)
“Tom is one of the great coaches on this planet,” Duke Hall of Famer Mike Krzyzewski said then. “To be honest, he talked to the team more than I did.“To have Thibs right next to me yelling, I’ve learned a lot.”
Of course that was 4 years ago... and the game has changed lol
I'm just happy that we finally got a REAL NBA Head Coach, and not some young coach trying to figure it out with a bunch of young players who are prone to mistakes.

Honestly, Atkinson as an assistant would be awesome if egos were to be kept on check (I would find it surprising if he wasn't a head coach next season).
You think you’re countering the David West thread but it’s clear you didn’t comprehend the purpose of that thread If it led you to making this.

I have just one word to say to this post especially the bolded: PRECISELY

Favoritism and nepotism are fair arguments when a more qualified candidate was passed. Who was that again? Regardless your reasons for not liking him have blinded you to the fact he was one of the best choices.
I dont love Thibs, but he's a good coach. I hope he's the right fit here. There are many other factors. There are things not to like about Thibs for sure or things to raise concerns but thats with every hire.
The gaslighting and hypocrisy around here are funny and people cant stomach other points of view.
Briggs says no retreads.. lets hire Woody
Another fella says it shoulda been a black coach after campaigning for Mike Miller for months.
You wanted Kenny who has been with the Knicks! How is Thibs "disgusting nepotism" but Kenny (who worked for Dolan) would be a good hire? Sorry dude

I said multiple times it doesn’t matter about his overalL record his offense and defense systems are outdated, he runs people in the ground, and in regards to development he wasn’t the best option.
You just skipping that and saying favoritism and nepotism isn’t something to be concerned about because he is the best “candidate” is showing your agenda. By ignoring the glaring red flags to this hire and what it says about this current Knicks regime real goals in regards to the Knicks and CAA. Even the majority of candidates they dragged out to make this seem legit were CAA candidates. 99% of my concerns wouldn’t even exist if we didn’t hear even before the position was open they were going to hire Thibs, and then to make matters worst the rumor that they were waiting to announce it so Woj wouldn’t be suspended.
That’s why this thread is corny. If you want to play stupid fine, don’t try to legitimize that POV by dragging up quotes from the past that have nothing to do with this current situation.

2017-2018 Off Rtg: 113.4 (4th of 30) - 3 years ago Thibs coached the Wolves to the 4th best offense in the league
He coached the Bulls in 2015. Thats 5 years ago.
Can you quantify "outdated" because that seems pretty recent to me. He's shown to be an elite coach on both sides of the ball.

You’re cherry picking stats. That Bulls defense would have been a lot more alluring if we didn’t see him fail with the wolves, as for their offense. His whole style is based on riding someone to wins. In the wolves case he had Jimmy Butler drag them to a first round exit.
That’s your argument? To only look at the good and ignore the bad. For example both his Bulls teams and Wolves teams were more talented than this Knicks team. Honestly, at this point I am waiting to see the draft and if we draft a CAA client over a better fit/talented player.
As much as I dislike this Thibs move he isn’t the problem and more a symptom. How much control does CAA have over the knicks?

I think your using some generalizations About Thibs. These are similar to how I felt bout him when Phil was hiring and some around here was touting him. I thought he was not a good fit with PHil as he is too strong in his own mind UNLESS he was totally down with the Triangle and then he’d be the kind of guy that would eat it up.

I am sorry. I just can’t get over the whole “Thibs is getting hired” from day 1#.
It’s to the point I want to know who represents the FO they hired, and like I said let’s see who they draft and get in FA.
If this is just a blip cool, but if it’s not the knicks are about to have their roster gutted and left holding the bill for overplayed CAA clients. That’s how these things go. On the low that is how they treated this team when Melo was here.

Another fella says it shoulda been a black coach after campaigning for Mike Miller for months.
You wanted Kenny who has been with the Knicks! How is Thibs "disgusting nepotism" but Kenny (who worked for Dolan) would be a good hire? Sorry dudeI said multiple times it doesn’t matter about his overalL record his offense and defense systems are outdated, he runs people in the ground, and in regards to development he wasn’t the best option.
I never get why people feel the need to grind others down with them when the Knicks do something they don't like- vent all you like, fine (I do that a lot!
), but why attack people who are enthusiastic about it?
I’m not in the main Thibs thread with this. The concept of this thread is corny and I’m going to call it out.

I'm liking the enthusiasm, fishmike- glad you're fighting back for your pick! I do hope he works out, I'm looking forward to August (if the training camp thing goes ahead)
We know Thibs will work hard, we know he will coach to his roster's strengths and we can expect the team and players to improve because we have SEEN that in recent years. We committed to him for 5 years. Not sure what else we can ask for here so yea... I think its one of the few really good moves the Knicks have made in a long time. LAst one was prolly drafting KP

Unlike a lot of people, I’m not concerned about him scaling back minutes (we have no one who’s good enough to play 37mins per game anyway- ha!), think he’ll do that himself, or if not the medical staff/ rose will ask him to pull back. Also think he’ll update his offense and defense (contrary to claims he started doing that with the Twolves), my main worry is the media constantly undermining him by bringing up the same s*** over and over again, like they did with the triangle- completely makes players lose faith in the system when its questioned every single day

It took a few years but my pick for a real coach is finally coming to NY. All those getting their panties in a wad are probably the same that liked us picking up all those young "long shot" coaches with "So Much potential". How did that work out? Acting like Kenny is the next Pop after one year of overachieving and getting a team into the playoffs in a weak Eastern Conference? We finally have someone who is experienced, coaches grit and hard work, will hold guys accountable and has the respect of the league. Funny how so many are quoting all those overblown criticisms. Because NO other good coach in history has ever had anyone complaining about them. Thibs has said several times that he has learned from his past, is willing to continue to learn and is hungry to be part of something special. The guy teaches sound work ethic, a hard fighting defensive identity and attention to detail. Something NY fans have been hoping for.
Hopefully the hiring of a "Real" coach is followed up by adding "Real" NBA players to the roster. Not a bunch of fan hopeful and long shots.
