Knicks · Can we take a chance on Gordon Hayward? (page 2)

BRIGGS @ 8/19/2020 7:42 PM
14 26 and Dennis Smith for Hayward.

Would give us 6 14 26 27
Trade out 37 for futures or a Euro hold

This is a sneaky good draft
Tgis would give us 4 cost controlled players for 4 years
Hayward is given a chance at 3-4 to do his thing than expires

Only offer I’d make

Sorry Briggs, i got confused. I didn't get your trade.

Knicks will offer DSJ for the 14th, 26th and Hayward?

I think he thinks we have the 14th pick? We don’t.

I would offer Julius Randle. That’s all.

I didn’t realize Boston has the 14th...

Why on Earth would Boston even take us serious ever again if we called them and offered that trade?

We are assuming they want to dump Haywood.

Knicks fans assume a lot of things these days.

I will be surprised if there isn't a draft day trade of at least one of our picks.

Boston [Ainge] is a well-run, fiscally sound organization. They *will* shed salary AND draft well enough to fill the holes.

But other teams also will want to shed salaries so both their lottery picks and trophy players will be available to save money.

I think our lottery pick will not be traded away [though maybe laterally]. The other two picks have value as cost-savings alternatives for teams who will be drowning in tax.

Haywood would not be my first choice to pursue.

I think in terms of priority;

What to do with Randle????

Resign Dotson?

Sign Morris?

Harkless?

---------------
Draft day trade ballast:

Peyton, Portis, Ellington, Knox

DSJ

I think your right nalod, briggs might see the Celtics dump Hayward's max contract as a cap relief move. But looking at Boston's recent draft history, they are always deemed the winners of the trade. They have always gotten multiple picks with their transaction. Not seeing that happening.

I dont want to retain any of the free agents except for Dotson, we need to find 2-3 shooters that can consistently shoot the ball well, Bullock and Ellington was not that last year. i hope we can buy a pick in the range of 20-25, or package the clips pick plus cash for a 20-25 pick. Maybe we can bring in 3-4 rookies this year. For now i just want to sign a stretch 4 in free agency (Woods or Bertans). Hopefully everyone can participate in the late September delete 8 bubble so the new coaching staff can properly evaluate the existing players we have before deciding if we need to bring a new point guard for next season. Ideally i want a year with the new staff to develop the young players before trading them away. Maybe all these young kids need is a fresh start/a clean slate.

So realistically, Atlanta, Detroit, Charlotte all have cap room to absorb Hayward contact

No idea what type of players/contacts/picks Boston would want back. I would assume either pivots or bench players

I keep hearing it is not working out with Gordon Hayward outside of Boston, but whenever I talk to any of my bean eating basketball fans, they are THRILLED with Hayward.. he had an TSP of 59.5% this year, which was the same as his final, great year in Utah. If anything, it looks like he is turning the corner on his injury so I see no reason why the Cs would look to move on from him

Let’s be simple:

Haywood has massively ugly ankle break. Out for whole season.
Celts discover Tatum is better than Fultz and the gods make up for losing Len Bias and Reggie Lewis. Took over 30 years because God is a Celtics fan and can’t be too obvious.
Jaylen Brown Is also a revolation.
Haywood comes back with Kyrie but needs season to shake the rust and get his head right.
This season he was fine. Steps on player and hurts his ankle and Briggs is ready to dump him.

Thats it. Tatum is to 10 player now. I get there need be a move but thought Trading Jaylen Brown made more sense.
Not that he is better than Haywood, but Just thinking its shitty move to recruit a player and he takes one less year to do so, he gets hurt, then salary dump him. Not saying to “feel bad for him”. Just saying he moved his family and left a good situation not for the money, but to play with Celts and their coach.
I don’t want to pay Haywood $34mil unless he is Cap fodder for year after. If so, what’s the price?
Boston has those picks, they either keep them and move others off roster or they are trade bait. If so, for what???

The Celts organization is all about business. I mean they sent Isiah Thomas to Cleveland just after he played with a lot of heart for this team and was almost an mvp candidate. If I remember correctly, he played in the playoffs while mourning the death of his sister. The Knicks accomodate a lot of their players (in buyout or trades) and are considered a shitty organization while the celts are sharks and are considered a class act organization.
I have no doubt they would trade Hayward if he could net them even one more 2nd rounder than another player.

NYKBocker @ 8/21/2020 11:12 AM
I love Hayward but I think he is too much of a medical risk to rely on.
Nalod @ 8/21/2020 1:31 PM
Isaiah played on a bad hip on a contract year and it got worst thru the playoffs.
Then Ainge did not want to pay for a small PG whose game is based on insane athletic ability. If he did not play he’d be painted a selfish money grubber and perhaps it would have hurt his Free agency.
And......The hip was still likely an issue regardless. He might not have been able to pass a physical for a team wanting to make a 100mm investment. But thats not how it goes.
Boston has 3 first round picks, a core of Kemba, Brown and Tatum, and then Haywood. They need a big. With the assets they have they are knocking on the door of contending very seriously.
