Knicks · Decent Stopgap Stretch 4 option (page 1)

Jae Crowder just reminds me of a Thibs player. He can probably be had as a 1-year overpay as Miami probably doesn't want to invest long-term in him because they are planning to keep their 2021 books open. He's a journeyman and an inconsistent shooter, but shoots it well enough to keep the defense honest and is a tough, versatile defender. After being overrated during his Boston days, he's settled into a role as a 3&D combo forward. He's played SF most of his career, but he's really more of a 4 these days.

I've warmed to the idea of Tyler Bey in the late first (he's been suggested here plenty.) He's a better shooter than i realized and obviously a very good defender. I think bring Crowder for a year and having Bey (and Knox) play behind him for a year would to wonders for their development and Bey could become the stretch 4 of the future for us. Knox could as well, but he may end up being more of a 6th man type. Randle moves to 6th man for the season and plays minutes between the 4 and 5. Bringing in Bey at 27 and targeting an elite shooting wing and PG with 8 and 38 would be a step in the right direction.

I'd rather have hark less than crowder tbh.

Taller, much better defender and can be cheaper.

Yeah, Jae is really too inconsistent to count on. Nice if your roster is deep enough to weather is cold streaks, brutal if you're the Knicks and have to rely on him as a consistent outside threat. We mind as well just keep Harkless.

I think Crowder is a better defender and better shooter than Harkless. I'm not opposed to retaining Harkless, i just don't think he provides enough offense or 3pt shooting. A lineup of VanVleet, Barrett, Vassell, Crowder, and Robinson with a bench rotation of Randle (PF/C), Knox (SF/PF) Bullock (SG), Ntilikina (PG/SG) is a much improved defensive team and 3pt shooting team. VanVleet, Crowder, and Vassell all compliment RJ and Mitch well to help them grow. Crowder would just be a defensive presence and spot up shooter. The offense would run through Barrett and VanVleet.

I wouldn't rule it out. And for those suggesting retaining Harkless, it can't be ruled out either because he seems like a thibs guy too. But he needs to play PF if he's here. He's not a SF.

BRIGGS @ 8/25/2020 12:40 PM
We already gave Randle

No stop gaps unless 2# 1 picks are attached

Problem is Randle plays no D and can't shoot. So we need someone to fill that role and let Randle feast on the second unit.

He's not that much better of three point shooter, most of the time, and he's not that much better of a defender than Mo', most of the time. But it would probably cost more to bring Jae here. He's a solid role player, but far too inconsistent to count on as a more than a fourth or fifth option. I just don't see him pushing us past the 8th lottery pick slot.

There is a reason why jae has bounced around from team to team despite being on a favorable contract.

He has a great perception to his game, but once you see it for a long time, you see he is worse than advertised.

Fair enough.

Good enough for a stop gap. Sorry. Misspoke. Decent enough for a stop gap.

They will ask for the moon for him as they will blame boylen for the bad season of lauri, not unless the new coach wants to move a new direction or they draft another frontcourt player

agreed. but how about trying to buy low on jonathon issac from orlando, sit him out for a year as he is injured and next year he and mitch might be good together.

I really don't think we can afford another guy who can't shoot, especially one with so many injuries.

Love Ingram he’s gonna be a perennial all star. But doesn’t play a lick of D. Poor rebounder.

Not a fan of Markkanen - plays soft no heart.

@@@k KP and his horse.

Issac - not right now - but if he recovers from injury and shot develops I’m all in.

Perhaps an alternative, Kevin Love, injury concerns aside he still puts up decent numbers? Albatross of a contract?
