Luca is just carrying that team. Amazing

He's definitely in the Harden mold for me- amazing accomplishments, crazy numbers, but I don't like him and don't enjoy watching him play (plus, where as Harden annoys me with flops, Luca annoys me with constant whining)

+1
Harden's also annoying to watch because he appears completely comatose on the defensive end. Luca's not much better, but the whining and "arms up everybody, look what I just did" for almost every pass or shot made is thoroughly tough to sit through.

I think we dodged a bullet with KP. May have dodged a bullet with Durant too. The Nets have already paid for one red shirt season and I believe he has missed over half of this season. Plus he'll turn 33 years old before next season so I doubt he becomes more durable as he gets older.

If the Nets don't win a ring this year or next they're screwed.

You are not wrong there. $39M last year to sit, $40M this year where he missed half the games. Brooklyn paid $60M knowing he would not really be able to play those games.

Durant carries them to ECF or better and it's still worth it?

Media would have been brutal on Knicks if they went thru this with Durant. Because it would have been “Another thing” on top of 20 years of bad. Nets at least got to playoffs and did an improbable rebuild without their Pierce/Garnett picks. Knicks would have incited a “pile on” sort of effect.

I think it's ring or bust. Especially if you consider that none of these teams are generating much revenue from attendance. So the Nets aren't even recouping their investment from the box office. Essentially if KD doesn't become pre-achilles KD and they fail to get a ring, I don't think it's worth it.

KD and KP - both overpaid divas who never play

If the nets don’t win a title after getting Harden that is absolutely a fail

FYI, interesting perspective from people who closely follow the Mavs:

KD and KP are not in the same conversation. KD has rings, is regular season and finals MVP with a solid top quintile tier HOF career and is doing that tough thing after a year off return.
He has had a very productive and durable career until he tore his heal.
KP not even begun to be in the same breath as KD.
I’m not saying anyone has to like him, but respect the player for his ability on the court.
stanleybostitch @ 5/9/2021 10:50 PM
Every mention of KP's demise warms my heart. This thread will never get old.

Lol

There is no way the Mavs are going to be able to dump Doucheingis on any nba team. 3 years 100 million guaranteed left on a contract for a guy who might play 40-45 games a year for you if you’re lucky and is now a liability on defense

Ha, the man who skips his exit interview and threatens to force his way out of the Knicks talks about being professional

fishmike @ 5/11/2021 4:05 PM
just a disappointment from top to bottom. There's some alternate reality where KP is teamed with Randle/RJ and crew, he's healthy, woke and unicorning his way to the finals. This sure as phuck aint it

We dodged a bullet dipped in cyanide with this clown. Thank God he and his Fredo Corleone brother demanded a trade

Doucheingis up to his old tricks now throwing shade at Rick Carlisle

Glad he is not our problem anymore. Yep, one can always force their way to another team, but the problem is that you cannot get away from yourself.
franco12 @ 6/7/2021 8:12 AM
he grabbed 11 rebounds so I guess he game up big in the smallest way possible. Maybe he was hurt?

He definitely has talent. He looked like a franchise player for us for like a 10 game stretch.

Some players are made of glass- he might be one of them.

Glad he is not our problem.

As good as Rick Carlisle has been, I think it is time for them to move on, get a fresh voice in there.

Maybe Janis?

But seriously - they have too much invested in him, he has the talent, he just needs to beef up a bit and find a role. That article is pointing out that he shot just 13 times one game, and the rest under.

Is that his fault? Was he hurt? Was he not in the right place in the offense? Or is the offense not exploiting his strengths?

At the moment, he can't do that either. The difference between what he provides on the floor and the amount of his contract is so big that I don't see how the Mavs can trade him. The contract is until 2024 (of course he takes the option for the 2023-24 season) and I think he’s in Dallas at least until the trade deadline of 2023, and probably until the summer, when they can try to trade him along with a bunch of picks for some meaningful player.

This Porzingis and the one in the Knicks before the injury are two different players. He was a very mobile player who played defense, he could put the ball on the ground, and his shooting was just the icing on the cake. The problem is that even then he looked like only one wrong step separated him from a long absence due to injury. I’m talking about the visual impression of course. And that's what happened.

Porzingis, who has returned, is no longer so mobile, it is obviously a brake in the head that is very difficult to ignore, and therefore he can no longer put the ball on the ground and is not good defensively. When you add that he was never particularly strong, in fact, now all he has left is a shooting.

Dallas gambled and hoped he could be as close as possible to that player before the injury, but Kristaps is a mediocre spot up shooter on a max contract today.

Nalod @ 6/7/2021 9:01 AM
He can’t get low on defense. Does not have the legs for those flying putback’s and the quick rim protection.
PHil foretold this after we drafted him and listed why he had doubts.
Phil wanted Booker. Suns said no......

https://arizonasports.com/story/1826710/...

Bottom line was of course PHil sucked and KP had to play itself out. The guy logically defied many things. “Unicorn” on the court but unheard arrogance as well. Fans slammed knicks for this failure. They had not demonstrated a tolerance to give them the benefit of the doubt. KP fried PHil and Mills. I’m not sorry as Leon is doing a great job but it just makes you look back and shake your head. I do sympathize with Mills just a bit as the time line did not work in his favor. IN the end they did play the KP card correctly even if Dennis sucked, he hired Perry and was the man who ok’d randle. He is also the dude that did Fizdale, did not want to trade Morris and was panicking. Moving forward.
With Every KP milestone of failure we have to look back a bit and just take stock. KP fell to us at the 4th pick and we thought god was kind to us. HE provided more value than Okafor and D’angelo Russell had a very rough start and for his current contract has yet to stay consistent either by play or health.
“We Here” is in part because of KP and his demise.
As for Dallas, no shame losing to that Clipper team. They are not consistent but Dallas is flawed. KP is not providing his worth and on the court. Off the court just makes him an asshole.
