So what happened with Trier? Best shooter on the team last year who inexplicably was in the doghouse all season with both coaches. Now cut. Probably becomes a good scorer on another team. I wasn’t a poster here during the season so I don’t know what happened
Were there interpersonal issues with him and the other players? Did he have issues with the coaches? Did he say something negative to Dolan? I’m wondering because Fizz and Miller would play trash heap bums like Ellington over him

Didn't pass
Didn't defend
Didn't play team ball
Was so bad he got cut some some GLeaguer's could get some practice time

He played exactly how he played in college, which resulted in him playing himself out of the draft...But hey, Trier(7 mill) and Baker(8 mill) can sit on a beach with long island ice teas and count their blessing.
I actually think Trier could fill the role of a bench scorer for the second unit. I think he was not properly used here, and on a more established team, I can see him carving out a solid role for himself. He needs to go look for a team like Philly, who could use a second unit scorer at the guard spot.

Fixed this for you a little
Dude got cut early so the Knicks could grab a G-Leaguer. Gotta assume it was about his contract (they knew he wasn't going to be retained) and also attitude/off court stuff IMHO

I will concede that Trier had some attitude issues, but looking only at talent, the kid has NBA talent. It is just a matter of him getting his head right and getting with a team that can fit him into a role. Time will tell, but I think he will be back in the NBA at some point.

Someone will take a flier on him. For me, Trier had the most glorious luck after not getting drafted: did enough and had enough leverage to get a near $7M contract and a near 2 year cushion to figure stuff out so that he could latch on. Showed that he could shoot and put ball on floor. Decent size. Didn't do anything that I could see after the first year to improve game albeit Fiz ran a shitshow.
At some point players got to wake up and recognize what it takes and so far Trier has not, and he has been doing the same since his 3 year college career.
IMO he was in same position as DSJr is today

I read something about how Fiz tried pumping him up and letting him do anything he wanted in his rookie year because he was friends with KD and the Knicks wanted him to say favorable things. Once that boat sank, there was no need to indulge his selfish, no-defense play that seemed to alienate team mates. No idea if that's true, but it would make a bit of sense given the 180 between his rookie year ("Yeah! we love iso zo, you can do whatever you want!") and his second year ("STFU and sit on the bench). But then we're talking about Fiz so who knows what his thinking was.
