I love the idea, but I don't think there's any way Lewis drops to 17. Outside chance he's available at 14 and Maxey at 17, but I still don't expect it.
There are a couple of options here. Take Lewis with 8, then work out a different trade with Minnesota. We can absorb James Johnson's as part of a deal. Let's say 27 for Johnson, 17, and a future second. Or we could deal Randle and 27 for Johnson and 17. Something like that. 17 maybe Maxey falls. If not, we can still get a good player. There's a chance Nesmith may still be there. If both Nesmith and Maxey are gone, then Desmond Bane, RJ Hampton, or Saddiq Bey are good options. Given the players there, i'll take on Johnson's contract to move up 10 spots because it's only 1 year at about 15 mil and Johnson is a solid pro.

I think this draft is so volatile and unpredictable, I wouldn't risk trading down if we really like a player

I doubt Kira goes before 14 and that's a nice sweet spot for the Knicks to trade with Boston. You look at the teams drafting 9-13 (Wizards, Wall; Suns, Rubio - OK maybe this is a spot where Kira could be nabbed; Spurs, Murray; Kings, Fox; NO, Ball & Holiday) and they all have PGs that won't be moved IMHO. Now obviously trades can happen but we shall see.

We need either one of them or whoever brought in to be able to shoot consistently. RJ & Mitch need better spacing around them.
Since I don't know anything about shooting technique, the barometer I use on players is FT%, and when they can shoot 80% in college, it's at least an indicator they have potential to learn to be a better shooter. Both Kira and Maxey have those qualities. Maybe they won't be shooters the first year, and that's AOK with me.
I'd be ecstatic with drafting Kira and Maxey.

Some guys are trending up. Deals like the one from boston had to have their guy at 8 and ours after. Deals fall apart quickly or other teams get to do it.
Maybe we are the latter.

Yeah, but the team has played this game with every prospect. I'd still be mildly surprised if we nabbed Kira at 8.

Agreed...Maxey seems to be the pick at 8. There is s chance Maxey will be off the board by the time we pick at 14 if we swing the Boston trade.
Vassell is the consensus pick at # 8 for the Knicks. He gives them another defensive anchor next to Frank and Mitch. RJ is a nice player, but his defense is not always on point, yet. Hoping for a Randle trade, and the Knicks find a way to pick up Frank Williams, the other player from FSU. An adequate replacement for Randle, AND he plays defense! Not Thibs defense, but workable. Another shooter is Tillie, who can give us a shooter at the 5 spot. Now that's a nice haul.

Does anybody realize the knicks have 8 players(Frank, mitch, RJ, DSJ, Knox, Iggy, Harper, Wooten, ) on rookie type contracts, add 3 more from this yrs draft, that would be a total of 11 players on a 15 man roster...
The question should not be who were going to draft, but who we are going to trade, picks or players?

Maxey, Quigley and Hagans shared ball handling depending on sets. Hagans was more of the traditional PG at Kentucky. Maxey was used to create more than other two and he was used to stop opposing PG's on defense. Belief he is seen as a potential PG in the NBA. But yes, he is a SG as well. Think the belief is that he would fit well with RJ in the back court.

I see Maxey in the mold of guys like Mitchell and Wade. I don't think he'll be as good as those guys, but I think he'll be able to create and be offensive engine. He's a combo, for sure. The problem is I don't think he has the physical profile to guard full-sized wings for long stretches. Mitchell and Wade can get away with it because of their buidls. If you look at his highlights against Anthony Edwards, you could see the physical limitations. If you match him with someone like Frank, those issues aren't as glaring. But spacing will suffer due to a lack of three point shooting. I'm confident Maxey can at least become a decent threat from behind the arc, but it still remains to be seen.

Agree with most of what you said. Reason with I feel Maxey would be great at 27 and a bit risky at 8.
Maxy looksk to be a big strong thick kid at age 19. Draft Net has him compared to Cutino Mobley. Can't say I'd go there but at 6'3 he is more in the mold of Dwade
Maxey is listed at around 6'1" and Mitchell is at 6'1". I'm assuming this w/o shoes.I guess the difference is Mitchell weighed in at around 215 lbs with a 6'10" wingspan while Maxey is at around 200 lbs with a 6'6" wingspan. Spida was a few years older when he entered the draft, so you have to consider that. Wade measured a shade under 6'4" with an almost 6'11" reach.
