Knicks · Espn says Knicks trade the 27 and 38 to the Jazz for the 23 (page 2)

Moving up this early in the day means it gives them more options later on. Maybe they want to move up again. They can always buy back into the second round. It’s a good trade.

Either that or they plan to trade 23 and 8 to move up.

Possibly. Although I’ve heard the Knicks were only interested in moving up in the top 3. I don’t know if that enough. There have been rumors that’s it would take Mitch, 8, and something else for the warriors to move back

I wouldn’t trade Mitch but I would be inclined to let go of Knox or Frank.

I dont mean to hijack my own thread but can someone explain to me this fascination-no disrespect- with not trading Mitch? To me the kid's ceiling is Marcus Camby or DeAndre Jordan. Not an untouchable player but a good player to have. Seems to always have some minor injury that is affecting him. I mean I am not trading him for crap but if you could get a key piece, I would definitely include him in a trade.

Name one center today that has all defensive potential and quick enough feet to not look silly guarding the 3pt line

There is NO way they can predict in this particular draft someone not being there at 27 but being there at 23. Even for a trade for a higher lotto pick it doesn't make sense to me, as in this draft I would think the 27 and 38 would be more valuable than the 23 due to the talent level being so close at the bottom of the first/beginning of the second. The ONLY way I see this making sense is they know someone they like got a guarantee from someone in the picks 24 to 26 range and they needed to get ahead of that team to grab whoever.
I disagree.

If the Knicks see I guy they really like being projected to go in the 20s, if moving up 4 spots increases you chances of getting the guy you want by say 30% and all you had to do is forfeit a 2nd round pick (#38), it makes total sense to me. Especially since acquiring a 2nd pick elsewhere is probably very doable. Philly has four 2nd round picks. You would think simply buying one from them is an option.

Understood but you don't increase your chances by giving up an asset. You wait for the Jazz to draft that player then trade the 27 and 38 for him. In this particular draft there isn't much separation from the picks in the 20's to the picks in the 40's or so. So why give up what can be 2 quality players for 1 quality player that really isn't markedly better?

Part of this trade is getting the rights to Ante Tomic. He is not expected to join the nba but could that change? Can the knicks bring him in? He is now 33 yrs old
StarksEwing1 @ 11/18/2020 10:11 AM
I think it’s possible Knicks buy a second rounder back anyway. Philly has 34 and 36

This

Understood he has a unique skillset. And I'm not saying he isn't useful. Just not untouchable.

Great move

If this was the NFL it would be brutal. But the NBA is a different beast. To me we moved up 4 spots for nothing. Its VERY hard to move up in any nba draft.

I don’t think he’s un-tradeable. I just wouldn’t use HIM to move up in this questionable draft. I’ll give up Knox or Frank or DSJ though.

BTW, if you don’t draft a PG and you give up Frank, I would probably have to give up a lot of dollars to sign Freddie VV.

Prediction: This is a guard hedge.

Knicks will take whatever wing ( or toppin) that drops with okoro likely the target and then with 23, they have more chances to pick one of : Maxey, Flynn, Terry, Jones, and possibly Anthony.

Then they buy back in to 2nd round as necessary if a targeted player falls.

They lept boston, OKC and New orleans, two of which just traded their lead guards and one which needs a backup to kemba.

dwiley20 @ 11/18/2020 10:33 AM
this was corny trade Early 2nd round you can find talent man!!!!
Chandler @ 11/18/2020 10:39 AM

IMO, and as others have said, this smells like a deal is in place to move up if player X is available at slot Y. I don't buy for a moment X is LaMelo as opposed to someone else. I love the knicks are playing it tight

They can still buy a second rounder

Perhaps it insures they get someone they really like -- say a Desmond Bane. Anyway, I can't get worked up over it!

Makes sense. They've been slobbering over him for a while. Not really thrilled with this. But it means Randle is likely gone, so it's a plus overall.

But you can't guarantee that. Suppose a player the Jazz like unexpectedly drop to 24 and they decide they would rather snatch up that player than make the trade with the Knicks?

Also, every teams evaluates players differently. Even if generally the perception is there's not much difference in the talent level lower in the draft, every team likely has identified specific players they would prefer to select based on their scouting or fit or got some inside intel, etc. Remember, we now have some Kentucky intel on our staff that may be helpful.

3 thoughts:

1. They may be trying to package 8, 23 and a player to move up and grab Obi. They may have a trade on the table with the Cavs or Hawks.

2. 23 is better than 27 so they could package 23 and a player to move up into the teens to grab Terry, Maxey or Cole.

3. Stay @ 23 and draft Josh Green, Desmond Bane or take a flyer on McDaniels..

MS @ 11/18/2020 12:21 PM
Maybe we can nab Neismith with the 23. I think it’s a good move if they feel there is a real rotation player there.

Trading Mitch to move up makes absolutely no sense. He skipped college, he’s essentially a junior coming into the league and nearly averages a double double and could lead the league in blocks. Let’s keep in mind the Knicks don’t have any good shooters or a point guard to help the kid out. He’s working on his offensive game that’s already more advanced than Jordan or Camby, so let’s just keep him and RJ and let them develop.

Grab the safe pick in the draft. If we had taken Mikkal Bridges from Nova instead of Knox we would be in much better shape abs really have a culture developing.
