I'm a little disappointed, but this draft isn't the end of the world. I'd give us a b+

Attention drama queen in abundance.

ramtour420 @ 11/18/2020 11:07 PM
Are you kidding me? We got a freaking steal at 8. We killed this draft, also got a sniper with a later pick to play with RJ. 43% from the three is just what we were missing.
Obi we could not have passed on. That is simply incredible value for the 8 pick in what's going to go down as one of the deepest drafts in a while. We got a legit Rookie of the year candidate. At 8.

So you know better than the knicks front office and coaching staff.

C'mon BRIGGS, these guys have turn good players into great players, they know Talent

Knixkik @ 11/18/2020 11:13 PM
The pick that matters most is 8. Would have been nice to get better value with the other 2 picks but we weren’t drafting core players there. It’s all about the Obi pick.
jskinny35 @ 11/18/2020 11:14 PM
I would have preferred Deni or Vassell at 8 but we have to trust that our defensive coach will make Toppin serviceable on defense. I also thought Quickley could have been had at 33 (would have selected RJ Hampton) but again we have to trust the Kentucky connection as they likely know more then we (the average but passionate fan) do... Nesmith at 8 wouldn't have been the right call even if he turns out to be the shooter some think he may be.
Philc1 @ 11/18/2020 11:25 PM
Yeah I know it’s terrible I can’t believe the new regime is drafting guys who can actually shoot

Vassell was the only other choice at 8.

You throw this same tantrum every year when the Knicks don’t draft who you wanted them too- every year!

FrenchKnicks @ 11/19/2020 6:24 AM
This is why I don't invest time in getting to know the prospects... you're always disappointed in the end.
I can understand that BRIGGS will need some time to get over all the time he's invested on the draft ^^
franco12 @ 11/19/2020 6:54 AM
in the big picture, arc of Dolan as owner, you're probably right.

But I like our draft. That was the easy part.

Now comes the really hard part - filling out our roster in free agency.

I'd like to keep Moe Harkless - I think he is the glue kinda guy that contributes more than what you see on the stat sheet.

But, PG is still the biggest need we have. Fingers crossed.

To be fair the players we draft and obtain suck. Obi is another empty numbers player that won't contribute to winning. His defense is atrocious

Something seems weird and refreshing about this front office and coaching staff, they always keep their cards close to their vests. Its been an unusually quiet past 7 months or so from the knicks brass. They just let the rumor mill run wild, they dont update the fans or media regularly and they dont react impulsively to news. Im happy they never went on a bidding war to get CP3. Something might be up with the front office, they might know something we dont. The week started with potential point guard targets being taken off the board, surprisingly the didnt panic and instantly traded for Westbrook just to show they are making a move.it seems everyone from the fans to media to other NBA executives proclaim that the knicks biggest need is a starting point guard. There are 3 avenues to address this, trades, draft and free agency. In a draft overflowing with point guard talent the knicks didnt pick any(unless Quickley is actually a Point guard). The first 2 seems done. It might just be the free agency thats left. Maybe the front office doesnt see the starting point guard as as big a need as everyone thinks, they are just keeping their cards close to their chest.

For free agency or via a trade i want them to get a starting small forward or a shooting guard if they see RJ as a 3. And maybe sign FVV or Rondo. Maybe they can go after Joe Harris. We might have a very competitive and exciting roster come December 22!

some head scratchers last night but right in line with my predictions and expectations.

Probably could have gotten quickly later. Bane would have been better with his size.

Oruro seemed like a decent backup center. Defense rebounds blocks and not unfamiliar with the 3.

Tyler bey could have been useful.

Flynn, terry, riller, might turn into something. Knicks might regret their second late pick.

Toppin was the right move. Hoping they can make him serviceable on defense. Possibly vassel kira or Deni would have been better. They were my preference.

One thing I can say is the Knicks know who they have on the roster and the D league.

Maybe they feel players like Dotson dsj Wooten iggy peters Harper can offer what the players they skipped out on would bring.

I know he wouldnt like it but obi would be great off the bench eating up second unit players if his defense doesn’t pan out.

If his defense doesn’t work he will be great off the bench for us. He would kill second units. Give him Wooten at pf in small ball lineups

Worse case scenario we have a offensive stud off the bench. A “team” is filling out

Best case scenario him and Mitch work well toghethor and he drops 20 for us a night.

Everyone who is sad they didn’t get their guy remember 60 more ballers next year. Under no circumstance did we mess up. Our team is (forming) even if toppin is just a 6th man coming off the bench.

If I was to ask you would you prefer toppin on the team even as a backup would you have a problem with it? we plugged a hole this draft. A few more to figure out.

understand the sentiment but not necessarily true.

Raptors got Siakim at like 27 but lottery pick Poetl did nothing
bucks got ROY Brogdon in second round when they picked Thon Maker in lottery

that said, i think Obi will either be boom or bust and if the former he'll be a game changer

How about he is just a bucket and a piece to our team of voids to fill to complete us?

I don’t think we missed out on a hall of famer between Kira Vassell haliburton okoro and deni. If we did 7 other teams were stupid also

50 plus players next year who are very similar or better to what we missed this year

This is how I feel and felt before the draft. Before the draft I would have been happy with Hayes, Haliburton, K.Lewis, Pat Williams, Okoro or Vassell. BUT if Obi fell I felt like we HAD to take him. The value is just immense. I know he has defensive shortcomings but he's probably the most talented offensive player in the draft along with Anthony Edwards. He can space the floor, he has great post moves, he can jump out the gym, he is an underrated passer, great in transition, doesn't need the ball to score (the ball doesn't stick to him like Randle). He can shoot the 3. He's great in the pick and roll.

Obi will be a great fit for the Knicks. They desperately need another scorer and someone who can stretch the floor and pull away attention from the defense. If Obi becomes a major scoring threat, it will allow RJ to continue to develop, get open shot and attack the rim without the defense collapsing. It will allow Mitch to free up on the inside for easy dunks.

And Obi has the UPSIDE to get better defensively. He's clearly a hard worker and has elite athleticism. He may never be an impact player defensively but I think he will get better.

As far as Quickley, I think they wanted Maxey at 23 and when he was taken by the Sixers at 21 the Knicks traded back and settled for Quickley. But they took the type of player they needed. A pure shooter with solid defensive fundamentals who has some potential to be a PG at the next level. Not my first choice, but I'm happy with the pick. They could have stayed at 23 and taken Pritchard, who I liked a lot as a NBA type scoring PG. I think they could have also take Bey from Colorado, who I believe was still on the board and would just be a great value pick.
