Knicks · Knicks going after Hayward? (page 2)

I can’t believe he turned that money down.
smackeddog @ 11/19/2020 5:11 PM

Still a high chance he goes to the Hawks though, think

In his situation, you turn it down because your agents have a longer deal on table

BOOM! Celtics might lose him for nothing, not even a trae exemption (unless he wants to go to a contender and needs a sign and trade)

Fair deal would be 3 years 20-24mil per imo. Hawks are also interested though but will they pay while also needing to pay Collins.

I've heard all sorts of things regarding Collins. One day I hear they're shopping him, the next day I hear he's part of their core.

I live in the A and was listening to talk radio this morning. Apparently, Collins may be on the trading block because the Hawks don't view him as a max player and might not want to pay. Also, Gordon and Rando are on their radar...

Hayward feels like a good culture signing if it happens. And he’s a very good shooter and playmaker. But we would have to see money etc.
Nalod @ 11/19/2020 6:55 PM
Let’s bring Scotty Layden back and complete the Utah reunion!
Haywood has an active market and next year he’ll be a year older in a more crowded field. I’d rather pay him 27 mil for 3 years than FVV 24 over 4. Always liked this kid. RJ can play the 2.
Randle likely goes in a trade.
Jimbo5 @ 11/19/2020 9:36 PM
I think the key to this offseason puzzle is Gordon Hayward. If the Knicks can finally convince a free agent like Hayward to sign a multiyear deal with the knicks suddenly the Knicks can be in business. They wont be contenders but they can be very appealing for future free agents to sign here.

Maybe once they know the Hayward situation they can then settle the point guard issue, trading Randle for Rozier is top of mind but there might be some other trade options out there.

People around the league are starting to notice the savvy moves the new front office are making, they might have a chance to finally change the impressions of the knicks around the league.

One question I want to ask though, can the knicks make more trades not involving the Jazz? Anyway i am hopeful the knicks can come out on top finally after this frantic offseason.

Yeah, I guess. Just not sure how I feel about getting Hayward. We need a point guard to make all of this make sense and it seems like that's not a high priority, at least not publicly so far.
y2zipper @ 11/19/2020 10:26 PM
I would rather see the Knicks pick up Hayward and run the ball handling goodies through some combination of Hayward and Barrett as the guys with the ball on their hands at this point.
Jimbo5 @ 11/20/2020 12:40 AM
I dont think the front office is ignoring the point guard issue if there is an issue. This FO has shown the past 2 days that they are methodical and try to think two steps ahead. I think they already have something in place. They just need to secure Hayward coz maybe without Hayward it wont make sense to make their point guard plan A. Maybe it would make sense to execute point guard plan B instead.

I think if the knicks sign Hayward and give more clarity on the team's starting point guard we might finally have a team that can fight for the in-tournament seeding at the very least. Keeping my fingers crossed that we get Hayward.

JesseDark @ 11/20/2020 1:39 AM
Hetwood would be a defensive liability so I'd pass on him.
Philc1 @ 11/20/2020 5:07 AM
Pass. Wrong side of 30 and has an injury history
Nalod @ 11/20/2020 8:14 AM
Haywood is a Pt Forward. This kid is a playmaker.
RJ is slasher with a good eye for passing. His shot opens up its gonna be great.

If you got:

Haywood/knox
RJ/Quickly
Mitch/Likely a vet presence via FA
Toppin/Randle
Frank/Dennis........

This is an upgrade from last year and very young!
At the same time I expect Randle will be traded and perhaps we get PG help. Not sure we need a “PG” in the traditional sense. Frank can guard other PG’s and with all the picks we have the next few years I expect we’ll get upgrades.
We are far from finished this off season.

Nalod @ 11/20/2020 8:30 AM
If Haywood wants Indy, does that lesson the asking price for Olidipo? Boston let Kyrie walk and they signed Kemba. It was a deafacto trade concept. Not saying Indy dumps him but we have the cap space to take Victor and don’t have to give back much.

Indy might need to do a quick deal. Milwaukee can’t absorb much salary without returning in kind. ATL likley not interested.
Knox, Dennis and Dallas protected pick could get it done. Do I love this deal? Tell me what Victors prognosis is going forward is and perhaps I would. His injury history might be an opportunity. Haywood would be a great draw for Indy fans.
I would prefer Haywood over Olidipo and use Randle in a package for a guard.

Chandler @ 11/20/2020 8:53 AM

haywood can still play. we would see even more production from him than the celts did where he was sharing the ball with tatum, brown, and kemba

the big issue for me would be contract length and i suspect that would be a deal breaker. Philly and the Bucks probably want his shooting and are more desperate than us in some sense because they have real title aspirations

Knixkik @ 11/20/2020 9:11 AM
I think the fit between RJ and Toppin would be really nice with Hayward. Shooter/playmaker who won't hog usage.

this guy sees it... we will still need PG help, but RJ/Hayward/Obi/Mitch is starting to look like a real NBA team.

Have always liked him. The concern would be giving too much money and his age. Feel his injury has taken away the three level threat he was in Utah. Watching him in Boston, I rarely saw him attack to the basket they way he did in Utah. His foul shot attempts his last year in Utah was 6 a game. Lat year in Boston barely half that. Still feel, for the right price, he would help the Knicks

Agree. Hayward helping the Knicks get to the playoffs for the first time in 8 years, stay healthy. Would get FAs attention. Just hope the medical staff does their due diligence, and the FO makes their offer accordingly.

Utah is a very long time ago. He ran the point forward there and would help alleviate some of the point guard problems, but he's really struggle with his confidence since his injury. I don't know how I feel about giving him a 3-year $75MM offer, which is likely what it would take to get it done.

I think Danillo might be the better option. He always helps produce wins in Denver, LA and OKC.

FVV - 4 year $100MM might be the better option for this team. I am little worried it may take more to get free agents to come here. Can we get Conely for DSJR/Randle and a second rounder? I am sure they would have interest in Frank to bolster their bench as well.

Hard to commit big to a wing that's not a top defender.

Hearing Atlanta has interest, which is the worse case scenario for Boston. Knicks and Hawks can just sign Hayward outright. I think Boston is secretly hoping Hayward re-signs. Best case scenario for us is that Boston is desperate enough to take Randle in a sign and trade. Maybe throw in 2023 second-rounder to make nice. Don't think Boston ever gets that desperate, but it would allow the Knicks to overpay for Gordon and FVV.
