There isn’t a penalty so much as the current players would get the difference in % bump for which the team is under the salary floor. That’s my understanding

Yep, I don't really see it as penalty. The Sixers did it years ago and it wasn't a big deal. In fact, I think their players preferred it.

They should let us pay off Noah. Don't get why we just can't eat it all if we have cap space

Because that would make too much sense......

You think the nba and Adam Silver are going to do any favors for the Knicks? Lol

Jimbo5 @ 11/27/2020 1:20 AM
Is there a way to trade for Devonte Graham and Batum from the Hornets? I might want Graham more than Rozier. Is there a scenario where we can get Graham? What will it take to make it happen? Will you send out at least a 1st rounder plus some of the 2023 second rounders the knicks got? Is Devonte Graham even worth a look?

Knicks have cap space they don't know what to do with, we need an upgrade at almost every position, we have a slew of expiring contracts on the roster, with extra picks....I mean Is the trade machine broke, I thought we ust hire DEAL MAKERs, WWW, Capologist..

These guys did nothing to level up the talent, and their getting paid an awful lot of money not to spend money.

They seem to have an idea of what they are looking for. I would suggest that last year’s punt essentially overpaid for the players they brought in and generally lacked outside shooting. I rationalized it then as essentially free options that one of those players would excel. It was expensive to find and trade Marcus Morris. Here, they created value contracts and almost universally brought in shooting and/or defense - skill sets needed to allow the younger players to find breathing room.

They brought in dramatic number of coaches. They spent a lot of money on guys that can work with the youthful team. They spent real money. It’s just not counted against the cap. They appear to be building an organization before they build a team.

Reading the tea leaves, I think they are trying to figure out what they have in RJ Barrett, Kevin Knox and Mitch Robinson. More specifically, they may not know which young player is going to take the next step. So, taking some time to get familiar with the youths and get them playing within Thibodeau’s system isn’t bad. It just doesn’t scratch the same itch that signing Anthony Davis, trading for Beal and adding a third all star would.

You let these kids grow. You show up and coming stars that they will get the coaching support they need. You develop the core of talent and the system of play (and, hopefully, prove that system is not past its expiration date). You fill in the roster with solid role players. And if a Robison, Barrett, Toppin or Quickley take that next step. If they start to play like Lillard. Or Barrett hits his free throws. Or Robinson finds an outside shot. Toppin plays two ways.

Then, when a player becomes available in free agency or on the trade market, you might be able to make that move to put it all together. Or maybe you just add a Klay Thompson type through the draft that just changes the look on the floor. And it will gel.

Can’t tell you how this will play out. Would have been interesting to add FVV and Christian Wood. But this is how the hand played out... so far.

When your losing basketball games no one looks good..you look like a bad dysfunctional franchise like we have looked after every losing 50+ games every season

what do you think will happen after a 22-50 season....NOTHING GOOD..Drastic change.

Who have we develop during the 7 straight losing seasons to make you feel comfortable with the process for an 8th straight season, I can't believe you think the results will be different..

This team needs (at the bear minimum ) 35 wins to attract at least 2nd tier FA....You think we have a 35 win roster?

We have not lost any games yet this season. So, let’s not cash in our chips yet. Still have a whole season to play. I can’t predict what will happen.

In Thibodeau’s worst season as a coach, he won 31 games. That was his first year in Minnesota. The following year, he won 47 games. They fired him at 19-21. They were 19-45 the following season. So, I believe Thibodeau has a tangible impact on the team’s performance.

But, no, I don’t expect the Knicks to become a winning team overnight. Not without a real training camp and some time to develop.

But, what I do see is the attempt to get some players to space the floor so Barrett has some space to work. I see coaches that have a track record of getting the most out of their players. I see the youngest team in the league with the 2nd most draft picks over the next 5 years in their possession. So, I don’t need to win 35 games next year to be happy.

I hope to see growth like Golden State between 2011 and 2015. That, is what I am hoping for

Jimbo5 @ 11/27/2020 11:30 AM
It might not look obvious but we are in a pretty good situation. What ever happens this coming season it will be a win for the knicks. If we win only 20 games or so we go into the draft lottery with 2 First round picks, the knicks pick most likely a top 10. If the knicks start winning games and is in the hunt for a playoff spot, even if we fall short we will become more attractive to free agents in a very deep free agent class.

The key here is to be patient knicks fans, good things are coming. I just hope Thibs is still 100% on board with a clear direction pointing towards a slow but right rebuild.

So the knicks picked up 3 euro contracts from houston. I guess that is a form a buying a ST for Rivers?

Camp may be crowded for the guards. Squad still looks a bit amorphous. Lot of position battles ahead.

Payton/DSJ/Quickley
Rivers/MKG/Ntlikina/Evans
Barrett/Bullock/Burks/Knox/Brazdeikis
Randle/Toppin
Noel/Robinson/Spellman

Pinson/Harper

MFG is way more Forward. Strong tough defensive forward. But he can't shoot

MS @ 11/28/2020 12:09 PM
The Kentucky signings are getting a little out of control. This one makes absolute no sense. MKG is an awful offensive player and he will likely take minutes from Knox and others we need to showcase and potentially flip for assets.

We have 7 guys on expiring deals. I don’t see the value, to Payton, MKG, Rivers. Bullock, Burks and Noel make plenty of sense, but it would be nice to just keep the space open for a future trade.

The one thing I would say is that THIS NBA season is condensed. More back to backs than in previous years. I can't put a finger on the travel, I think the NBA has not release regular season schedule because they are tweaking that.

Knicks also have to assume Thibs will make the guys compete and I'm guessing this is the one year he will NOT go with a shortened rotation and it'll be the opposite with guys running hard when they are in.

Time will tell.

I'm assuming Evans gets waived. That leave Iggy, Spellman, Powell, Harper and Pinson fighting for roster spots.

Harper and Pinson are on 2 way contracts. They don’t take a roster spot in the same sense.

Powell appears to be an Article 10. He’ll get an extra 50k to play in G league (if g league plays).

The Knicks still have training camp invites. I’d assume Taj ends up in training camp with the Knicks.

Feels like there is still a move coming. Just might not happen before the season starts.

Jimbo5 @ 11/29/2020 12:04 AM
There might be one final surprise move form the head office in the next couple of days or so. If none materialize, 2 players might be waived.

I cant tell what their plan is at the point guard slot. They added 2 free agent point guards/sg (payton and rivers) talent wise, its not much of an improvement from last year, they just crowded the roster of point guards with no clear front runner for the staring job.

EwingsGlass @ 11/29/2020 7:25 AM
I keep expecting to see a headline that the Knicks both (I) trade for Giannis and (II) sign Anthony Davis. Clearly, there is a GA/AD size hole in our roster
