I think the bigger problem will be rotation.
Thibs has 13 players to create a rotation. 3 of these players will be out of the rotation when the season starts.
(My guess it's DSJ, Bullock, Rivers - INJ)

Frank and Bullock would probably split minutes - they would ideally be your 3 and D guys. Bullock gives you more 3 and pretty good d, while Frank gives you less 3, elite D... and when he’s feeling good, more all around game.
I think Noel will maybe get 15mpg, Mitch will stay around 25-28; this will give Thibs some extra mins to get obi on the floor with Randle on a regular basis.

Let’s not crush this kid. Let’s see how he responds to playing games vs. Killers. He has much to learn.
combos are tough to configure. with Rivers signed you have to give him a chance as well.
Let’s just say IQ is earning a place in the rotation and he if he keeps acclimating then yes eventually he is set to start.

I remember a game during linsamity where D. Wade and Lebron gave Lin a reality check. I don’t think he ever really recovered after that game lol
I 100 percent believe in IQ abilities but my approach is slowly off the bench.
I saw sexton and garland 2 quick guards try to test his handle last game. Iq held up!
Also saw them at the end of the game give him his respect with a dap.

Yes, He deserves it. He was the best PG in preseason and it should be a meritocracy and an example to the rest of the youth they can earn minutes if they are the best player at their position.
Elfrid Payton can't shoot, plays little to no defense and is an average passer.
Start Quickley.

I've seen a bunch of interviews of Quickley. He's a very mature kid. Not to mention there won't even be crowds at games this year so even if he has a bad game it's not like he's getting booed
I really think it should be Quckley at this point...though I really wish we had a longer pre-season for things to sort themselves out and/or had played a couple of top tier teams with good PGs for him to play against. He will have some ups and downs, but he seems like a confident kid.
I'd give him the baptism under fire treatment.

Look Philc...I'll come out and say it. We need to walk a fine line between developing and drafting Cunningham. Payton is a tank commander. It's in his blood. It's a skill that's been honed over the years in Orlando. There's no need to rush IQ. Let Elfrid cook.

The problem is that we have been essentially tanking for three seasons, and we still have not gotten the 1st pick. There is no way Thibbs is trying to tank, so we might as well just go for the best record we can and hope the ping pong balls fall our way at the end. Even with Quickley starting, we should still miss the playoffs.
I agree with Clyde, do not put pressure on the rookie .. A rookie that perform better at both guard position (PG/SG) than any of the Knicks guards in the preseason games.
The energy IQ brings has improve the performance of several of his teammates.
YES! Thibs need Quickley's elite ball-control on the court for 30 plus minute per game(this season), making the rookie IQ the 6th man would be the perfect role for both coach/player to start the season.

Yup...And both of them were top 8 picks...small for SG, not classic distributors at PG, and so-so shooters from deep, at least at this point. Both are still young, but I didn't see Quickley out of his league with either of them (Though we are only talking about a pre-season game.)
We will see.
One thought is if the Knicks do indeed start Quickley, it means our PG situation will be BETTER than last years - it means we have a better option than Payton/DSJ/Frank. Think of Quickley as fixing 2 things with 1 player:
Quickley fixes the starting lineup: he makes RJ and Randle better because he gives them a passing target and helps space the floor. His shooting is a skill that was completely lacking from the PG position last season - craziness!
Payton's a pretty competent all-around player - though his shooting is a glaring weakness. When he's on, he can stuff a statline - he has 17 career triple doubles. While he's above average in a number of areas, he isn't exceptional in any one, not enough to offset his shooting.
Payton on the bench becomes a better player - You get more value out of Payton if he's surrounded by athletic shooters - in this case, the Knicks bench is a much better unit that plays better to his skill set. Multiple shooters can hide his deficiency as can the running game. Obi/Knox/Bullock/Rivers give him a bunch of targets on the wing or on the break; and he has a few options for pick and roll partners (including Noel/Robinson).
Quickley is rapidly becoming one of my favorite Knicks trade/draft picks. People freakled out that the Knicks 'reached' for him (haha a 'reach' in the 20s -- if you think you have identified a guy, take him.. don't wait for 15 other scrubs to get taken first, makes no sense). Really focussed on everything else other than he produced and has one of the best shots in the draft...
Having said all that please no do not start him. Let him learn the NBA. Then let him beat up on the second teams. And literally most importantly, just get Quickly, RJ, Knox, Obi, and Mitch on the floor at the same time.. I want that group to play a lot together this year
Look, IQ looked very solid, but it was the cavs, there was no scouting report or game planning for him because he got the nod at the last minute. The Cavs saw how much the Zone defense killed us with detroit, so they came in with that game plan and IQ and Knox shattered it, and they never recovered.
I say bring him off the bench, if we're struggling to start games that's when you make the change

The young Cavs guards (3rd year Sexton and 2nd year Garland) allowed the Knicks to mount a huge comeback victory in the 3rd game - they had to be at least a little embarrassed, right? You'd think they'd make adjustments between games, come out and try to crush the rookie in the 4th game.

Right after IQ was drafted: 26 Payton Pritchard, 29 Malachi Flynn, 31 Tyrell Terry; so yeah, drafting the PG you want was absolutely neceeary.
