Knicks · Lonzo will be an unrestricted free agent should we take a look at him (page 1)

awe1028 @ 12/23/2020 10:43 AM

Lonzo Ball was not extended so will be a free agent - restricted. Should the Knicks kick the tires to see what it would take to get him Should they even think about acquiring him.

TPercy @ 12/23/2020 11:02 AM
Depends on the strides he makes this year. Definitely one to keep tabs on because I’m high on him surprising a lot of people.
NYStateOfMind @ 12/23/2020 11:04 AM
Restricted.
shinmen @ 12/23/2020 11:12 AM
I would love Lonzo on the Knicks but it would take an overpay to pry him from nola.
KnickDanger @ 12/23/2020 11:20 AM
Yeah restricted. And man that's a long way off.

I mention this in the frank thread, i certainly would rather Ball than Frank or DSJ. And the knicks will have enough open cap space (because the FA market is turning into trash) to make a high bid.

Just know that the knicks are going to have to overpay for any impact player regardless of status

You'd prefer Lonzo at 17M/per than Frank at 7M/per?

wargames @ 12/23/2020 11:48 AM
We won’t know until we see how Quickley does. If he looks starter good I doubt we go for Lonzo

Yeah, I don’t see ball as starter material but off the bench would be great... plus we have quick who is going to be the starter for along time.

Again ball would be a great backup ... not at 17 mil though..

It also depends on who we draft .

Could be more for Lonzo. What happened? Did he want more or they low “Ball” him??
The draft might offer a better solution.

If as you say win 37 games then someone in our back court made big strides.

SupremeCommander @ 12/23/2020 1:38 PM
I am not looking to overpay anyone who cannot shoot and definitely not looking to overpay anyone whose dad is LaVar Ball

If Quick is the starter we shouldn’t go after Ball. Also you are correct we could come out this draft with Suggs or Cade then Ball would definitely not be needed.

On the low Oladipo might be the best FA for the Knicks if he plays well, and he doesn’t fit well with RJ game wise.

I legit don’t know who the Knicks can add that will move the needle in FA. Lonzo is only the move if we get no better options.

Would it take an overpay??....they got Bledsoe on the books for 3 yrs...with Kira waiting in the wings.....hey make a move to draft Kira if you think you you are losing Ball...I think Ball wants a different situation...

Exactly Would it take an overpay? Obviously they did not feel strongly enough about him to offer a contracthe could live with. And just as you say they already have Bledsoe and Kira so it is possible if the Knicks sign him to an offer sheet NOLA might just let him walk.

Maybe Im thinking too much outside the box here, BUT does anyone want the Ball Family Circus at Da Garden??

lonzo is not even close to the 17 mill mark, and frank would be grossly overpaid at 7mill considering is barely in the rotation.

He’s restricted so it will take extra to steal him but I can see it happening. I can see a backcourt of Ball and Quickley sharing playmaking duties with Barrett at the 3.

C Robinson
PF Toppin
SF Barrett
SG Ball
PG Quickley
Bench: Burks, Knox, Noel, and our 2021 draft picks. I can get behind this.

Like that lineup, would put Ball at PG, Quickley at the 2. Looks better off the ball. Like to see what he can do without having to set up the offense at times. Might be a better scorer than advertised. They both are great at sharing the rock, along with RJ, and Obi. Mitch too. The ball movement would be great with that lineup.

I agree. Ball can be the 1 also. I think they will be interchangeable

Agree about them being interchageable. They could alternate running the point. Would make it tough on some defenses.
