Ruh oh: Frank Ntilikina suffered a sprained knee, according to the Knicks, and is out tomorrow.

Good news is it’s not a bad sprain, and he’s day-to-day.

Is knee sprain French pig Latin for groin strain? Thibs plays his guys hard. This is to be expected.

he play 16 minutes..was that too much?

He's starting to get that injury prone label

He's always got nagging injuries it seems, despite never playing big minutes.

What's worse is that it usual comes when he has a golden opportunity to solidify a rotation spot

He will go somewhere else and play 82 games
hey look, its Jmpasq spreading joy

Yup, like Camby. Maybe not 82 games, but enough to qualify as a full season. Not a good reason to keep frank in NY. Maybe a chsnge of scenery might help him stay on the court.

I think Franks injury is a blessing. We shouldve locked him up on a cheap contract. The way he played b4 his recent injury, looks like the game slowed down for him and his confidence in that jumper increased. Injuries will keep his value low. Hopefully we match a low contract offer. I think Frank is a late bloomer who will figure everything out as he approaches his late 20s.

Maybe we can get Frank for the league minimum. Guess that would be a really big "blessing". Too bad we cant ask Frank to play for free.

We could have used Frank tonight a few extra threes and his defense would have been great

The problem is leon in this frank situation and they both have bad history together. Frank fired leon rose after his rookie year now leon rose runs the knicks now. Frank is in lot hot water with leon rose because of firing him don't expect leon to be this forgiving person unless frank balls out this year. The only person that like frank in this organization was steve mills and he is gone now.

You should have started this post with “I have no clue really but I’m just gonna make up some stuff right now and see if it sticks”

Could it be maybe, just maybe, that some Frank supporters are the ones with the bias view? I mean, Rose was not here the first three years? What was the reason for Franks inability to break out then? Did not realize Rose was in charge of the lineups. Especially with Thibs as the coach.

I am a big Frank fan. However, I don't see the Rose conspiracy. I am hoping thibs is different from Fiz in regards with Frank. My take is that Thibs wanted to play Frank in the pre season but frank got dinged and it annoyed him. He played him and did really well but got hurt again.

I don't see a Rose conspiracy either. The issues lie within the roster construction and the philosophy behind it. I just wanna see all our players be put in a position to succeed here for once. Can we start breeding success here.

It's always going to come down to the player, you have to give the franchise every reason to extend you, you have to give the coach no choice but to play you.

My biggest issue with Frank is that he doesn't do enough..

And this logic has produced so much success for the Knicks for all these years. When drafted it was said at the time. Frank would be a project as a playmaker. If he did develop as one then he would be worthy of the high lotto pick. But if not he could still wind up as a serviceable 3&D guard. This seems to be exactly what he is trending towards. Playing great perimeter defense which is his bread and butter capable of guarding 1-3. And currently shooting in a small sample size 55% from 3 for the 10mins per game he has gotten in the 4 games he’s played. Coming off last season when he finished pretty strong shooting wise and overall.

Estimate double the mins and production. While 55% isn’t realistic to maintain. Him putting up 9pts in 20mins and strong defense with the role of spacing the floor and guarding multiple positions is very much realistic. He isn’t a natural PG tho so accommodations need to be made to cover where he lacks as a shot created playmaker. All the same with how his skill set defensively can accommodate his teammates by being able to take on the tougher perimeter defensive assignment or make it tough for regular PGs to penetrate at will. And if they didn’t feel that he was worthy of netting this role consistently and identifying the pieces that made this work. Then they should have traded him in the offseason.

The argument also isn’t about should we extend Frank or not. As I said before it makes sense to let the season play out. The argument is the philosophy of adding pieces that don’t really fit together based off previous lottery status and then expecting the cream to rise to the top. To hopefully identify maybe one player that could stick long term or be resold. This doesn’t help put anyone in position to succeed imo.

If RJ doesn’t show he is greater than his weaknesses while we continue to be transition will he be next? Or should we have built around his strengths and weaknesses. Putting him in position to succeed and gain supreme confidence while he irons out his weaknesses over time?

Good post...Frank's development is one of the reasons why I didn't see a need to bring back Payton and Bullock for that matter. We have done a good job of hiring coaches known for development ( Bryant and Payne) but I'm still a little skeptical that Thibs will sacrifice a few early games for long term development of players who actually have a chance of being here past this year. Thibs has a history of leaning on his vets.

I'm hopeful at some point that Bullock and Payton are fazed out of the rotation, and Frank, Rivers and Quickly soak up those minutes.

I could see Thibs speaking to Frank as the season started. Letting him know he will probably lean on vets early but he will get his shot or something. I only say this as Frank given where he’s at in his career seemed pretty comfortable. Where a lot of players would be asking for a trade for a new opportunity especially when seeing all the players being brought in.

But me as a Knicks fan I just want the piece of mind that they are capable of building a team that compliments each other. I do love that Obi gets to sit behind Randle for the yr where he can be brought along slowly.
