Knicks · Need shooters. What type of contract would you offer Duncan Robinson RFA next offseason? (page 1)

martin @ 1/19/2021 5:08 PM
Slim pickings for free agents next year. He will be 27, so still prime years.

He is restricted so maybe the Knicks would poison pill the contract and really mess with Miami.

Only other notable guard that comes on the market besides Oldapido would be Evan Fournier (just turned 28).

He’s a one way joe — he can be hit or miss. Olapido is a franchise type player
BigDaddyG @ 1/19/2021 6:30 PM
I agree Briggs. I'm not overpaying. Don't agree with you on Dipo being a franchise player, at least not yet. Maybe becomes unleashed in Houston. Right now I see a borderline star who may not even be top 10 at his own position.

More or less one way than, say, Aaron Nesmith or Seth Curry?

And on the scale of hit or miss, what do you consider a career eFG 66% maker? A hit or big hit?

Olapido has played around 60 games over the course of 2+ seasons. Below average 3point shooter for his career. He has a lot to prove and will be on the downside of his career once the Knicks have relevant playoff experience again.

Its not even close between players imho

I know, Aaron Nesmith sucks and Duncan doesn't.

Also, apples and oranges so I don't know why you would compare

I would definitely consider a contract but would need to evaluate after that draft as I am really high on Kispert in the 8-12 range who could be another Robinson or Harris.
TPercy @ 1/19/2021 9:06 PM
Depends on who we draft. If we end up with a Kispert as our pick then I’d look for a PG that can shoot like a Lowry or Conley on bloated short term deals.

That’s my feeling too. Kispert and Moody are possibly the 2 best shooters in the draft and will probably be in that 8-12 range. Both have the upside to fill that role as a 3pt sniper on the wing.

Well we already have Burks and he’s on the team. I’m not discounting Burks as a pure keeper.
Olapido gives us a player who can play elite at three levels. Duncan is a one level player. Not comparable. You’re saying find me a role player 3 point shooter— we have one. Spend the money on Olapido. I’m seriously leaning towards hoping we trade for Olapido if it’s just one 1st

Assuming we don't draft Kispert?

Miami probably makes a splash and trades him before the trade deadline. The pricing has to be more about his teams available cap than him. Bertans got $15mm? Bogdonovic got $18mm? Probably closer to Bertan's contract in the poison pill years.

Once Leonard and Holiday are off the FA board, I think you are looking to pull an RFA. If its Miami that still has Robinson, you could probably end up with one of Robinson or Winslow (they might decline Winslow's team option to keep Robinson). Doesn't fix the shooting, but gives you a Butler type player for Thibs to work with.

You lost me at the end. Winslow was traded last year to Memphis and hasn’t played a game this year due to injury

My fault on both fronts. I forgot about that trade. Didn’t know about the hip displacement. Consider that retracted.
