Dennis Smith Jr for Malik Monk should be in play.
Both players are barely playing and could use a change of scenery.
Monk can potentially give us more shooting. Having his former Kentucky coach can maybe unlock something.

Agreed. Dennis smith goes home and monk joins some Kentucky folks. But Dennis smith would be the 4th PG on their team so I don’t see them having a use for him.
Maybe our Kentucky insight is a reason why we keep him away?
We are not desperate enough to scrape every barrel and “see what happens”.
This is a kid that might crumble under Thibs. Knicks are leading with defense.
Not sure what Monks issues are but if we deem him redeemable thats good. If not, perhaps there is good reason
Why he is stuck to the pine.
Monk was my preferred selection in the draft. DSJr was my second preference. Goes to show that I know crap about college talent.
Monk is supposed to be a long-distance marksman extraordinaire. The problem is, in the NBA his 3 point shooting was not good, and he does not bring much else to the table, he is not particularly tall for a shooting guard, not a particularly creative passer for a point guard, not a lock down defender, and - my biggest issue - he has short arms.
Flip him for DSJr? Why not? I suppose the issue with both of them is what the Boston commentators said in the recent Knicks game about DSJr when talking about the reason why dynamic college guards may flop in the NBA. The physical tools are all the same, but some simply cannot adjust to the greater speeds in the pros, it is like their brains cannot process and make decisions when things come at them at a faster pace.

That's probably true. I can't imagine Payne and Cal want to put their names behind every kentucky player they have coached.
Big game by Malik Monk last night.. we sure could use that shooting.. with DSjr going to Dleague we probably missed the boat on that trade.
Rivers gives us that inconsistent shooting Monk would.
Frank can too.
Maybe we give Dennis more time to be inconsistent.
So we have three guards underperforming and swapping one for another that is due to be a free agent does not inspire this fan.
Monk has some issues. Dennis is not going to Fayetteville, its Charlotte and the court is the same size there as here. In front of him still is a trio of Graham, Rozier and Ball. I can’t say what Dennis wants.
As you said, its a lateral move. comes to time to cut bait and start with some fresh players. Maybe not this season.
