Knicks · Nerlens noel (page 1)

Not talked about. Can’t shoot for sht but boy is he effective. Robinson is the core C but we do not fall off with Noel at all— we have pressure at the hoop for 48 min
jskinny35 @ 1/22/2021 12:39 PM
True - wish he could borrow some stickum from Lester Hayes!
fishmike @ 1/22/2021 12:49 PM
he's so bad offensively its hurt at times. He's got stone hands and stiff legs but his defense has come on at late. There is ZERO chance this guy is a threat to Mitch. He's pure backup material but his cost/impact has been good. He plays his role well. Chris Dudley was a better offensive player

Exactly. All that "Noel and Mitch are battling for the starting spot" during training camp was all folly.

And whoever convinced Noel to turn down $70M for 4 years from Dallas should never be asked for advise again

Knixkik @ 1/22/2021 1:11 PM
He's not been impressive to me. His hands are just so bad. He gets out-muscled. His length and activity though allows him to give some of what Mitch gives, so he's fine.

its mind boggling. That being said a Luka/KP/Noel team sure does have a LOT of rim protection although that Noel offer was a few years ago.

When guys around him are hitting shots he's fine. When things are cold and you need some help on offense he's just soooooo bad. Seems like a good guy and plays his role well. Good pickup for Leon and crew

Isn't that the truth. Can you imagine?

Yeah, Noel made perhaps the worst contract mistake in the history of the NBA.
Mitch's contract is pretty bad too - 4years, $6.4m?! (4th year was a team option!)

A few other bad contract snafu's:
Hometown discounts: Pippen, Cassell, Kemp
DeMarcus Cousins, Isaiah Thomas - thanks to some ill-timed injuries, both failed to collect $150m contracts they were projected to earn.

Noel is OK. Chris Paul made him look like a big-time player in OKC last year. He's solid and the Nets wish they had someone like him on their current roster.

It's amazing how ppl don't take into account that the Nets are paper thin at every position, no real defenders on the roster, and MDA and NASH have never ever been associated with the word defense.

Noel is a great back up and contributing. No need to dismiss the value of that role.

truth be told, the knick would be smart to start renegotiating with Mitch soon. they're not obligated to of course but if they want to start changing the culture and getting players to buy in and sacrifice this is good

Bad hands and can’t hit your free throws. Poor but he does his job.

He's overqualified for what we need. I hope we never need him to start for an extended period of time.

ramtour420 @ 1/23/2021 1:04 AM
He is a good weakside help defender and gets his blocks there. He understands team defense and is good at rotations usually. Can get you a stop by drawing a charge here and there. He plays hard and hustles. Has decent lateral quickness and can switch to smaller players.

Sometimes he gets pushed around in the paint, not really sure how to remedy that. Needs to lower his center of gravity when he plays to compensate. Needs to learn to box out.

On offense he is a work in progress to say the least. No go to move. Not a natural passer. Has pretty bad hands when catching the ball and while trying to grab boards sometimes too. Free throws are not his strength. Putbacks and lobs are, but they are his only real threats on offense. Both him and MR need at least one move in the post or something barely outside, like 8-10 feet. Noel actually does have that 12 feet jumper in his arsenal but he barely uses it and it's not very good.
Despite all that he looks a lot better on the floor and fills his role perfectly. So there is that. He is still pretty young and we could do way way worse with a backup center.

Nerlens.......A good back up player on a .500ish team!

Which is essentially the case at this point of the season
