And don't let da name fool you!

Finally getting round to my first post after reading for months.
Long time Knick fan with my roots in da City.

Just wantin to say hello, wish ya'll a Happy and Healthy New Year and praying the Knicks don't get any worse.

I am lovin the direction of the "new" team. Though, like lots of the posters here I am a bit worried bout the Toppin pick. Lovin the Quick pick.
At this point it seems like we would be more accepting if their draft order was reversed. LOL
I am not likin the short rotations of coach. Love the defensive intensity but think that with da short rotations are not gonna work in the long.

Can it get any worse? I hope not.

Welcome! And I’m not too concerned with Toppin pick. We just got to play him to his strengths as he adapts to NBA. Worst case is that he isn’t as NBA ready as we thought but he’ll get there.

Welcome. In my head, the minutes (and short rotations) are a symbolic measure. Win or lose, guys gotta earn their minutes on defense.

Welcome. Its all about expectations. Win a few games, then don’t and we all have “great” advice. Fact is Thibs has this team exceeding most preseason thoughts about them. That in mind, who are we in hindsight to really think we know better?
Thibs is playing the guys he thinks are best.
“Start Quick”........Again, facts are he is uneven and Payton brings consistency enough to to be healthy and team is one game below .500 which is fantastic! Sure, we beat GSW one should expect beating Sac. But back to backs are reality, covid is reality and that was a pretty good team last night.
ENjoy the ride. Enjoy what OBI could become until he is who he is. Seems he is getting more comfortable around the rim.
Last night I loved When Knox missed a layup but hit the put back offensive rebound. That was a pay we seldom see from him.
Knox is younger than Obi. Barrett is younger than Quick. This team is still quite young.
Hope your enjoying the season!

Welcome. Wouldnt worry about the Toppin pick either. Once we have settled on a PG going forward, Toppin's game should go up a few notches. Moves very well without the ball. Needs a very good PG to make the most of his skillset.
StarksEwing1 @ 1/23/2021 1:38 PM
Welcome aboard!! Don’t get concerned about the Toppin., he missed a good chunk of games with injury so need to let him get into the groove

Yup

Welcome and yes, it can always get worse. We seem to be headed in the right direction now, so there's hope. I wouldn't be worried about the Obi pick yet. He hasn't really had the opportunity to play much, but he's flashed real skills in his limited time. His passing, ability to move in space and finish and range have been solid. Obviously, he needs to get stronger or his ability to create shots will remain limited. Surprisingly, he hasn't been as much of dumpster fire on defense as I thought. But he's still bad on that end of the floor.
HofstraBBall @ 1/23/2021 4:13 PM
Welcome. You should know that we are winning it all this year.

Think Toppin and Quicks have a lot of potential. As long as everyone keeps expectations reasonable.
Excited about the next couple of years. Think they are mostly to focus on who will be long term pieces and who should be traded. That and hopefully adding talent around the league that can truly allow us to be a competitive team in the playoffs. For now, enjoy the probable up and down year along with some hopeful surprises.

Welcome again. PS don't listen to ...,..

welcome! Great timet to be a Knick fan. Young and upcoming team. Good future draft assets. Great coach. Front office seems to have a plan...

I am also new to the board and have been a long time Knick fan. I am a Dayton alum and watched every game Toppin played in college. Toppin lacks confidence at the moment but if he can get more minutes he will settle down. I am seeing chemistry with IQ and Toppin had a really good point guard at Dayton who got him the ball while moving to the basket. Toppin can be an explosive offensive weapon so don’t worry about this idea that he can’t play defense, this kid will make it here.

Welcome and agreed ^

Welcome....this place is therapeutic for old school knicks fans, whos been through the struggle of watching these knicks suffer for 20 plus yrs.

Keep in mind, and I made the same mistake. I noticed you said hi brothers, but didn't acknowledge the sisters.

We are a support group for traumatized Knick fans.

I am interested to know more about Obi's game. Definitely can understand he is nervous or a bit out of sorts as a rookie. His game does seem to be more predicated on a PG who will get him the ball in spots he can dunk and move downhill with?

Don't care for his post ups, seems like he could maybe physically overwhelm players in college but doesn't have the strength to do it in the NBA.

Also thought his shooting or shooting touch would be better but maybe that's just nerves

Maybe they could run the p-n-r with Toppin, yeah, sounds crazy I know. Watching Noel fumble the ball out of bounds is getting old, maybe find a stretch 5 to run with Toppin? Taj?

He is really good in transition, I don’t think he’s had one transition bucket with the Knicks. He was great off of screens and at sealing the defender and leaking to the basket. He is a great around the rim which isn’t what Thibs is doing with him. He took about 3 shots a game from distance and shot the ball well, I think he was around 40%. He had a lot of space in college from the outside because he was tough to defend in the paint. His shot looks different now, a lot more arc then I remember. I hear you about how he posts up, the slow way he backs the defender down. He got away with that in college but the size and strength of bigs in the NBA are a different world. He is a good passer, when he was doubled he always found an open guard.
