Did the Knicks not have interest in Halliburton because they knew they were taking IQ with their 2nd pick?? They knew IQ was their guy and that he would be available because he was projected as a 2nd round pick by most. Obviously, they also were very high on Toppin and knew they couldn't draft Halliburton AND IQ and still have DSJ and Frank on the roster. IQ has looked great thus far but I see him more as that 6th man kind of role and very good at it (which is fine) but not really as our future potential star point guard for years to come. Don't get me wrong, he's very capable of starting either now or at some point soon but Halliburton looks that good that he should have been the guy. He has that ability to make everyone else better and that characteristic that when you watch him you can just see he has that "it" factor for a true point guard that can also be very efficient and effective as a scorer as well. I was a PG myself back in the day (Only varsity HS) and I just see something special with Halliburton. IQ I like but we also loved Lonzo Trier his rookie year and look where that went. Not saying IQ is Trier but I question just how good IQ can become in terms of being the starting point guard that can lead you to greatness. It's still early. Hopefully he will prove me wrong.
Knicks were so high on Obi they were willing to trade UP for him. This is not a Hali v IQ thing

Yep....obi was projected to go 5th....if he didn't slide to 8, I believe Hali wouldve been a knick and IQ wouldve been on another team. Assuming we picked a PG with 8.....our 2nd pick wouldve been BPA not including the pg position.
Obi was the most overrated player in the draft by the media. With who was on the board had the Knicks passed, he would of been picked outside the top 10. He has zero lateral agility. His only hope is as a small ball 5 and even there we have issues. He has a really high center of gravity and lacks strength in his lower body. He won't be able to guard on the perimeter or guard the post. This will limit him to being a zero sum bench player, he projects that poorly defensively.
My fear is that Obi is another Kenny “Sky” Walker - all dunk no game and another wasted high draft pick (along with Knox & Frank).
Really frustrating that the Knicks cannot pick a high level player with their high draft picks.

well we lost a couple games so I figured to see you trashing one of the guys. Obi is a personal favorite. I like when the Knicks are playing well and we dont have to read this trash as these types of posts only surface during losing streaks
Obi wasnt media hyped. That is literally garbage. He was the best player on the best college team. Dude was unstoppable on a Dayton team that never lost and most of the season was listed a lock to go top 3. Then a couple guys moved up and Obi fell. Carry on Jmpasq with your revision of history

Its Knick fans man. 2 preseason games are usually enough to judge a guy and we have never developed a single prospect into a good NBA player since like the 90s

IQ is here because of the Kentucky connect, they had more intel on him then every NBA team, being that the guy who developed him is on the knicks coaching staff.

Obi's playing time is blocked but i'm not too concerned about him. He's a good player and will get opportunities when he's ready. It's premature to not consider him a good pick at 8, even if he's not a starter. As for Halburton, i liked him a lot and he was my favorite prospect who had a chance to fall to the knicks, but i'm really not concerned about it, seeing how i think Quickley may end up being better.
Patience people!! He missed a lot of time due to injury as well plus it’s early. None of us expected Randle to play this well either. Gotta give Obi some time
Hali stats and IQ stats, at least the advanced stuff, aren't that far apart. Plus Hal has the advantage of playing on an experienced backcourt. No guarantee he comes here and does the same thing. He still doesn't look like a true lead guard. Also, it's too early for this. Can we at least wait until mid-season?
i am a million miles away from abandoning ship on Obi.
there is a strange parallel to the Toronto draft where they picked Poetl high (with our pick i'm pretty sure) and Siakem way later in the first.

If you spent any time watching both Walker and now Toppin (so far) as pros - you would probably know that they do not have the same "all dunk" game. Further, Walker was a 20% 3 point shooter and did not even have much of a mid-range game.
Perhaps wait more than 9 games played to pass judgement on a rookie.

why bother? Obi is playing behind a guy having a breakout all star season so lets trash him when there arent minutes and he's been hurt. Also Obi's got 3 NBA games worth of minutes to break down. When you know you know.

What I'm wondering is (besides for the Knicks being high on Toppin) were the Knicks so high on IQ (because of Payne & Coach Cal) that they knew they were definitely drafting him with their 2nd pick? Was that why they perhaps got scared the day of the draft and traded up to make sure they would get him and then when saw how the draft was going they moved back down a few spots knowing he would still be there? If that is the case then they probably would have passed on Halliburton regardless of Toppin and tried to take more of a wing or a big man instead at #8.

gut feeling is they wanted Maxey and saw Quickly as a plan B. I think Maxey was the higher rated PG prospect but Quickley was likely viewed as simply a good basketball player and the staff would figure it out and that looks about right.

I think they were targeting Quickley from the get go. Maxey falling probably wasn't anticipated and it would've been interesting to see what they would've done if both of those guys were available.
Just to get this in early, our 2021 first pick -- whomever -- is a bust.
