Knicks · Toppin for Markkanen could work.. (page 1)

TLover @ 2/6/2021 11:26 PM
Markkanen is a restricted free agent after the season, gives us the shooting we need (at 7 feet tall)and is only 1 year older than Toppin.
StarksEwing1 @ 2/6/2021 11:31 PM
Can we give Toppin a bit more time? He has only played like what 12 or 13 games or so.
TPercy @ 2/6/2021 11:53 PM
This D rose trade has got people talking crazy already

Sadly our FO is starting to act crazy again too 😂

Just say’n.. if we are going to make a push this year, Markkanen gives us the shooting we need.
Knox is a major disappointment and Toppin looks lost in addition to his ceiling being limited from the looks of things. Obviously Thibs knows better than us.
Knicks don’t need another Kenny “Sky” Walker who can just win dunk contests.

Knicks aren’t trading Toppin they were ready to trade up just to get him so they are high on him. I’ll put it this way the odds of the Knicks trading Toppin right now are About the same odds of Covid disappearing tomorrow 😂

I can actually see is trading with Chicago but for otto porter Jr.

Bullock and DSJ and cash for otto. This solidifies our 3 and d position, while Chicago a little money and opens up minutes for Patrick Williams.

No point if we're keeping Randle, Markkanen won't want to come off the bench and only have 10-15mins at the PF spot

Philc1 @ 2/7/2021 7:46 AM
Toppin has way more upside than Markanen get outta here

Toppin hasn’t gotten minutes yet because Randle has been off the charts.

Nalod @ 2/7/2021 10:13 AM
Would/should we trade Randle for Markkanen? Not a slight on Randle in anyway. This is about preference and where Bulls want to go.

But the big question is why are the bulls shopping him? Do they not want to pay as they don’t see him worthy? Long term Health?
So why would any of those concerns not be ours?
If So do they want a pick or two? Youth? Salary relief and we take another contract back?

This would be in the category of bringing back Taj Gibson. It comes down to cost. I would trade either of FN or DSJ for him. I wouldn’t trade KK or any draft compensation.

Don't think the Bulls want to pay him big money. He's a piece but he has flaws like most other players. I would consider trading him for Randle as I think Randle has more value and could possibly net us a return pick or extra player with Lauri. I do think Randle is the better player but for our team with limited outside shooting - I really think a stretch four could bring out the best in RJ and Mitch's abilities. It may give more options to play Toppin, although the defensive problem remains. That said, a safer deal would be Toppin for Lauri. They both have defensive limitations but Lauri is a better outside shooter and could work with Randle for limited minutes. Just don't see Toppin getting on the floor much with Randle and Mitch as the 4/5. While this trade idea is far from perfect - Toppin will likely rot on the bench as long as Randle and Mitch are a part of our core. So while Toppin may have the most talent/ability (unknown) - we prob should have picked a Vassell or any other player that could have offered help/minutes at the PG, SG or SF position. Realize they didn't anticipate Randle would improve but what do you do with a supposedly talented rookie that is positionally redundant and has several limitations which reduce his playability overall? Guess we'll send him to the Dunk contest

Why would a Knick FO, that just drafted Obi a few months ago, now give up on him with 14 games played?

Or, why would Chicago, who just drafted back to back PFs in Williams and Wendell Carter, trade a deep shooting C for another PF?

Otto Porter is the guy I would target from the Bulls. He would be a huge upgrade at SF

you trash every move the Knicks make and the guy you come up with is Otto Porter?
Nalod @ 2/8/2021 8:12 AM
If Obi gets you Markkanen and thats where FO wants to go it might not be that OBI has devalued. No doubt players short term can affect value but Chi might be also managing its cap with a bigger purpose in mind.
I’m not endorsing it or slamming it. There is a macro blue print/vision we are not privy to. Its not a master print becuase way too many variable determine the outcome that are not in our control.
There is a long view and then there is the daily grind of Thibs trying to win every day.
Knicks play hard and for the most part don’t get blown out.
