Knicks · Good to see Perry get some props..... (page 1)
On his own this article gives a better timeline and some props to what he had his hand in and what did not.
If Thibs is in the convo as “COY”, and we know it was Leon that got him here, then some props to Perry for laying the groundwork for this to start to come together: https://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baske...
For all we know Perry might leave and get his own gig for another team that looks at what he has done to earn the respect that got him here and in some ways confirmed he is a good exec. Short of getting Masai its always better to grow your own dude the starphuch for another. Hope he stays. Money should not be a problem. That or perhaps its in the cards to promote Zanin all along.
If you can turn around the knicks as he helped, you can make it anywhere............
Part 2. Knick fans guide to survival.
Things are going swimmingly well thus far but the team other than mitch has been light on Injury and fans come to expect good things. We might regress so much due to Thibs insane attention to detail but other teams might be lagging in their development and catch up. Not that I wish this but just appreciating what we got and recaps the team is over reaching. Which is fun by the way!!
Anyway, happy days are here again and traumatized Knicks fans subconsciously wait for the string of bad news. But over-achieving is a major reason I love this team. Was thinking today how much I prefer this to if KD and Kyrie had signed with the Knicks. That likely puts me in a minority in modern times, but I sense I am not alone in that outlook on this board.

Perry deserves great credit for being a major part of a FO that continued that policy, as well as creating cap room never known in Knicksville. The hate for him like so much in these parts seemed undeserved to me -- I suppose his being lumped in with the more even hated Steve Mills (lumped in with the even more hated Jim Dolan) was the reason for that.Anyway, happy days are here again and traumatized Knicks fans subconsciously wait for the string of bad news. I don’t think you are alone. KD and Kyrie was a push chips to the center of the table move ...possibly have a 2yr at most 3 yr window for a chip...but with Harden trade after that window they are back to the post KG era...they crawled out of that but that took some years, buy low opportunities that panned out and some luck...
I think this Knicks team that was a dumpster fire last year is something even more sustainable than Atkinsons Nyets....Thibs is willing this team to win....with a dose of heavy mins I might add....who knows what we can get....we have kept our powder dry and Perry was a part of that considering he stuck to his guns when Mills had a deal to get DLo for a first and sign Mook to a long term deal...
hezonja, D. Smith, Elf, Vonleh, Elf again. Last year lets get enough vets so we can be just good enough to almost get out of lottery...
i think the fact that they brought in essentially a whole new FO and a coach is far more likely the cause of our recent modest success than anything to do with Perry -- and i say this still liking KK and hoping he can get a handful of minutes now and again, whereas Mikal and Myles are getting steady minutes and making contributions to their respective teams

His best move was the hatchet job he did on Mills. Little did we realize how much he was changing the course of the franchise.

Yup...by getting rid of Mills, it paved the way for the Morris trade to the Clips which gave us an opportunity to draft Quickley. Cap space and draft capital was created and collected, mostly under Perry's watch.

Perry calls that move The Shiv
Knixkik wrote:He's a solid GM for a guy like Rose. He's been around the block and loaded with experience. He's not a great GM by any stretch, but has done some good things. Seems like a guy that does the little things so Rose/Wes can focus on the big picture.agree... seems like he might be really good in that role. So long as they are on the same page and its clear Leon wants to keep the roster as flexible and young as possible.
The move to cut Elf and bring him back for half price was savage. Quiet a departure from throwing big money at Ron Baker (who I do hope makes a comeback asap, could be the missing piece)

Great GM’s have the Titles or have mastered thru the years like Presti.
Morey was great in my book despite the lack of titles. Dude just kept it relevant and pulled rabbits out of the hat year after year.
Funny though how close Ainge got to nailing it. I mean really was. Masai Toronto teams kept coming up short and he pushed the chips in and rented Kawahi. Then in the finals, one they were going to likely get swept both Klay and Durant broke. PHilly gets there they are likely champs and Brett Brown is hailed as gold.
Boston nearly made it without Haywood in his first year but freak ankle break in his first half in boston derailed it.
Perry is not great. Has not been on the job long enough really. I want a guy that has YET to be great. I say that because I want THAT GUY to make it great. Getting guy that was great somewhere else is not that certain. Sometimes the gods want it a certain way and not a damn thing you can do about it.
Hindsight gives fans the ability to call out things. Ainge came really close to pulling off some genius moves but the god said “I gave you the Redsox success so I don’t have to give you more Celtic love”. Let’s not forget before the tragic Reggie Lewis and Len Bia deaths, god gave them Joe Barry Carroll as the first pick and Auerbach traded it for Robert Parrish and the pick that was McHale. Fucking genius!
Masai was opportunistic to create the scenario of “got to get in the finals before you win it.” Be like us in 1999. It was a great run but we all knew SAS would clock us. But what if both Timmy and Manu got hurt?? We’d might have won.
Let’s hope we can say one day “Perry was a great GM”, and that it was while under contract with Knicks!!!!
After reading that article i have to ask myself, who the hell is STEVE MILLS because his name is not mention at all
We know everything had to be approved by mills, and Mills hired perry. The only reason Perry still had a job was his connection to CAA.
The sole reason this team is doing well has very little to do with perry and everything to do with the Staff which was brought in by Leon.
Perry is not drafting IQ without the coach who developed him already on our staff pushing hard for him, hell, he drafted knox base on fizdale pushing for him.
IMO Thibs and his staff turn sour grapes into fine wine, Perry is as avg as they come.
The only reason Randle is still here is because his value dipped so bad under fizdale the trade offers were probably trash, and Thibs wanted him back after watching him train and seeing the kind of shape he was in.
Check with me when perry can convince a star of some sort to sign here, other than that, I'll sing my praises all day to the wonderful coaching staff

What connection does Perry have with CAA?
Perry is likely a one year stay over to bridge the FO at a time we thought there would be a draft in June.
He might not be our guy going forward. We don’t know.
Perry is not drafting IQ without the pick. Nobody said Perry was a Nostradamus.
Thibs and the staff is getting 99% of the credit. You do know GM has a role in construction a coaching staff?
“Only reason randle is here”? You acting like you in the room with Thibs. Your making it up.
So your benchmark is us “signing a star”? I thought on the court matters. We 35 games in, team is dong well and all article did was say the pieces were in place BEFORE the season. Not “Perry is Red Auerbach making 1248 MIlls obsession look silly”. Relax dude, you need not take a shit in every room to know it stinks.

Stop saying building through the draft because you sound silly, 8 of the 10 man rotation are veterans., we have 2 promising rookies and that's about it, so how is that building through the draft.
We are building a culture of defense, accountability, and a strong work ethic. I like perry, just not as a GM, let's keep it a 100
You think because we drafted IQ and Toppin were building through the draft? lol
Building through the draft would have been trading away randle for a bunch of draft picks like OKC has done.
You can't retain Randle and ask him to stick around for the next few drafts and help develop 19 yr olds
knicks1248 wrote:Not sure why you are so offended that we are building primarily through the draft while also adding so veterans. That’s a smart approach. For some reason you equate that to “tanking” which is total BS. By the way your argument makes no sense. When you have multiple firsts over the next few seasons you are building through the draft like we did getting Obi and IQ. Now I’m not sure if we keep every pick but regardless their goal was to build a young core. You can’t just have a team full of completely veterans and no youth/picks. We did that for 15 years and it ended horribly. We are finally doing things right. Like I said be happy fir a change 😂StarksEwing1 wrote:knicks1248 wrote:Wait one minute, you Guys slammed this writer every chance you get and now he does a puff piece on perry and your hanging on to every word like he's a pulitzer prize winner ..
