They should just trade for him unless the price is just extraordinarily high. I would be down for getting him, especially if his 3 point shot is truly improved. He would get the ball to everyone easier and we would have better fast break opportunities.
Don’t let free agency and hopes of the lotto determine our fate again.
The question becomes “what price is too high”

"Extraordinarily high" is very subjective. What would that mean? Would Knox, one of this year's 1st round picks and the right to swap next year's pick be considered high? Would you do it?
I mean obviously I wouldn’t give up RJ, Mitch or Julius. I would prefer to keep the Dallas pick and ship ours if you put a gun to my head. Knox, Frank, Payton would be fair game... granted Payton has the NTC. 2 picks? F’ no.

The issue is what would the Pelicans agree to? And considering that other teams apparently are interested in Ball, we would have to compete against other offers. Not sure packaging up all of the players we don't want will get it done.
FYI, Ball is out tonight due to "injury." Could it mean something is brewing?
There are so much news coming out with regards to trading for Lonzo. As the trade deadline nears, there is a small chance that the Pelicans are realizing that the price they have in mind is too high. There are even reports that Bledsoe should be included in any deal so a third team is required. For me even if Frank is part of a trade for Lonzo, the FO should find a way to include or make another trade for both Rivers and Payton or just waive both. A line up with Lonzo, Rose, IQ and Payton is too much PG for the limited minutes.
Im very interested to see a starting lineup of Mitch, Randle, RJ and Lonzo this is a very young group that can grow together. Im hoping to see Lonzo in a Knicks jersey after the trade deadline or the start of next season.
A #1 and a young player (Knox?) plus sounds reasonable. But does NO do that? So you probably have to overpay so nevermind.

The worse of our 2 firsts this year and Knox. Not sure if its enough but thats what i'm comfortable with. If pushed I would deal Obi instead of Knox if they prefer but the Knicks probably wouldn't

If trading Knox AND Frank and our lesser 1st pick pushed us that much closer to contention, while giving us room to get us closer... I’d pull the trigger. I say that and I am a Frank supporter. Amazing... Frank supporter. Let that one sink in.
The reason the Knicks are unwilling to make a trade is because they would have to give real talent to get Ball. People who are saying that some combination of Knox and or Obi and a first will get it done are deluding themselves. You are saying that NO would accept the players we don't want plus a draft pick which projects to be in the 15 - 20 range AT BEST for a guy who is rapidly improving and is only 23 years old.
A package centered around Mitch or IQ along with the FRP would be at least where the Knicks would have to start to get NO to even listen to them. This is why the Knicks are not going to trade for him. They don't have enough depth to be trading away talent. Instead they need to keep the talent they have and add to it. That is why they are going the free agent route. The hope is to put together an offer that NO won't match. This is also why they were in on Andre Drummond because again they could add him without trading away any of their talent.
I’m in the camp of Knox, the lower of our 1sts this year or some protection. You can’t trade a lottery pick unprotected every.
At some point you have to like Lonzo enough to say we don’t use the pick to draft a player as good.
Give up a first round pick for a player, whom we could either lose in the offseason or need to sign to a poison pill contract? I do not like it. Much rather that we try to sign him away from another team under a poison pill contract and keep our pick. And if signing him does not work out, there is other fish in the sea.
Even if a team’s offer a “blow your socks off” package..i.e. 2 firsts...the advantage the Knicks would have is taking on Bledsoe and his 2 yrs at $18 mill per...this would lower the cost on Lonzo...But Griffin does not seem like a panic guy....they don’t want pay Ball $20 mill a yr with Zion comin up in 2 yrs for a max. Because once you give Zo the money he becomes more difficult to trade unless he is killing it...but then you stunt Kira growth. Yeah they can go into restricted FA and try to get something from a team that wants to sign him...but the asset you get is not guaranteed.
I think it all depends on how desperate teams are to offer primo assets for him. I think Knox and a first and take Bledsoe is deal they do right now. Would a team offer a better young player and a first or more that but not take Bledsoe?? Trade deadline always bring irrational deals and trades around the draft are more sober minded...plus 3/4 or more of the league thinks they can make it to the playoffs or play in game, so a lot more buyers than sellers and hence the value of players on the market go up...

finally.
members on this board always seem to equate "young" with "talent". Knox has lost the "potential" tag a long time ago is no where near enough to bring someone like L.Ball and the fact that the NYK are, so far, out of the lottery range (as well as Dallas at the moment), its going to take TWO First rd picks to acquire L.Ball, as well as, possibly losing one of Mitchell or Quickley.
Although I would give up two FRP for Ball, I'm not ready to release Mitchell or Quickley for him so I'm in the wait for free agency camp. I don't believe adding Ball will makes the Knicks title contenders and, depending on the matchup, still a first rd exit.

Couldn't agree more...Can't imagine the Pels would trade their 23 year old starting pg, who is improving each year, for either Frank or Knox who are not a part of the rotation when we are healthy and an end of the 1st draft pick. If thats the offer, then we don't really want to trade for him.

I am also one of the bigger Frank supporters here. However, I would not send a 1st rounder if both Knox and Frank are included. My package would be. Frank or Knox plus lesser of the 1st round pick OR Frank and Knox plus the Detroit 2nd rounder.
I love Frank and he still has that premier skill that you want for every player. However, Lonzo also has a premier skill... 2 at that. So I am willing to get him for a bigger package.

We need a “Frank support group”. Maybe Thibs can come talk to us and tell us what knicks position really is for him. His real trade value, his value to the team and future. Until then Frank lovers will over value him and haters discard him as worthless.
