Knicks · Free agency can't come soon enough, Lonzo Ball is the answer (page 3)

You mean RJ?

DeRozan plays the combo forward spot for the Spurs these days.

DeRozan is playing the vast majority of his minutes at PF this season, which is the position that suits him best because he can't shoot from the perimeter. If you sign him, Randle aus on the perimeter more or it's redundant.

I think the knicks should continue to exercise their patience this offseason and just look at opportunities that can present themselves. I think the move they should make is to try very hard to sign Lonzo away from the pelicans. If the opportunity is there to package their picks to get to the lottery or to move higher in the lottery to get a quality player then they should go for it, the knicks dont need 4 rookies next year. Finally if Kahwai opts out to be a free agent if not maybe Derozan can be an option, sign one of the players to a 2 year contract only 1st year guaranteed. If they can swing the second year to be a team option much better to keep their options open for next year's offseason when Lavin and Beal becomes free agents. If Kawhi or Derozan doesn't pan out, the knicks would still have a chance of signing Lavin or Beal. I would rather have Lavin or Beal as the end game of the rebuild to fit the young cores timeline.

Im hoping for this future knicks roster

Starters: Mitch, Randle, RJ, Lavin or beal and Lonzo

Bench: Noel, toppin, burks, Bullock, IQ, Rose and the Rookies.

This group for the next decade or so.

Agreed. I’m happy just adding Lonzo to this group and continuing with either Bullock or Burks as the 5th starter until a star wing becomes available such as LaVine, Beal or Booker.

We need Derozan like I need a case of the coronavirus

I’d rather try to trade for Deangelo Russell or Russell Westbrook in the offseason.

I can see how they fit, easier than Ball who I’m not sold on. And we have to have to give him a long contract.

Deangelo and Westbrook only have two years left on their contract after this season.

Ball is a better shooting, playmaker and defender than those two. And younger with upside still. And would be cheaper year over year.

I don't want Weatbrook on the team if Washington give us an asset with him, let alone that we give something for him. I guarantee he would destroy the chemistry in the team very quickly and we would be ready to rebuild from scratch again.
Clean @ 4/10/2021 1:49 PM
I don't think Derozan fits our needs at all. We need a scorer who can shoot. In a perfect world our realistic offseason pickups would be Ball as a FA and Zach LeVine in a forced trade. I am hoping things go poorly in Chicago.

Hey Folks,
Knicks are not getting LaVine or Beal. Those 2 players will cost us RJ Barrett and our draft assets in a deal. Remember Chicago got rid of their cap and draft picks for Cen.Vuveic so they will do everything in their power to keep Lavine..
As for Derozan, he would not make sense. He would take opportunities away from 21 yr old RJ.

RJ will slowly become our go to guy.( our Closer) cuause obviously Randle cant close games for us... RJ has added 3 pointer in his game which will make him even more dangerous.. As for Lonzo Ball, he is the answer at point guard for the Knicks..

Pay him whatever it takes. Lonzo is a playmaker that would bring out the best in the Knicks offense. No more constant half court sets. Knicks will be running lots of fast breaks with Lonzo.. Also at 6'6, he's a great defender. Lonzo has heavily improved his
free throw shooting and his jumpshot.

Also remember that Burks, Bullock, Noel, Rose are all free agents after the season so if the Knicks are going to bring any of them back, they not coming back on 1 yr deals again. This time they will want to get paid something more than a yr and more $$..

Jimbo5 @ 4/10/2021 6:49 PM
I think the only major move the knicks should make in the offseason is to do their best to secure Lonzo ball and sign him to a contract to join the knicks young core. With Lonzo in the team I expect better ball movement that will elevate team play as well as the possibility of unlocking individual player's untapped potential. I think for next year the knicks should just keep both bullock and burks. Even with just the addition of Lonzo there could be a big improvement on the team's performance.

After next year, the knicks should then turn their focus on Lavin or Beal and sign one of the players in free agency. It should not cost them anything except their cap space. And just using all the draft capital to pay mprove the team's bench.

I think the master plan and hope would be ball this summer and LaVine or Beal next summer as they will be unrestricted free agents. No monster trade. Keep all our good players and only sign who will come in free agency.

Exactly. This is why the Knicks did not make any moves at the trade deadline. They saved their cap space because they intend to use it this offseason. Make no mistake the Knicks will do everything in their power to get Lonzo Ball. It will take a significant overpay to prevent the Pels from matching but I believe they are going to do it.

With regards to Lavine again I think you are spot on. This is a less likely scenario since the Bulls have his bird rights and therefore can offer him the most money. However it is no secret that Lavine is a big fan of Thibs and the Bulls are not doing was well as the Knicks right now So it is certainly possible that if the Knicks are interested and the Bulls continue to flounder He may decide to leave the windy city.

Your last point: again I could not say it better myself. The Knicks are going to use their draft capital to fill out the bench. They will also use what ever little cap space they have left to also fill out the bench with some vets

We need Devin Booker. Maybe Randle and the four first round picks we have next two years gets it done

I want Booker but he’s not better than Randle right now and that’s way too much.

I think Randle has secured an untouchable status with his play this season and rightfully so. Devin Booker is one hell of a scorer and i would love him to be a knick but just looking at their games, Randle is doing far more than Booker for their teams. Randle is a triple double treat every game. He plays on both ends of the floor. After solving the starting PG problem, with this current line up the knicks i think will just be a 20-25point scoring player with decent defense away from being a top 4 team in the east.

xavier @ 4/11/2021 10:25 AM
Trent Jr. shows that we were on a good track when we mentioned him as a wing that could “explode”. But that train left the station, of course.
Nalod @ 4/11/2021 10:56 AM
free agency can wait. Enjoy the season of a team exceeding its projections. The emergence of Randle and RJ, the potential of IQ and the drama of Mitch, Knox and Frank.
A play in game. A real game with meaning.
At some point a team leaves the Lottery because of talent. Its NOT old talent, we have a young core. No starphuch savior to draft but thats a sign of progress.
Tank vs. real progress.

Jeez, that is not rooted in reality. Suns have a window with CP3 for two years and they are legit for now. Book is on a new deal and Ayton has still has some upside. They are perhaps thinking “How do we keep up and exceed the rest of the west going forward. Do a little homework, like look at the standings, contracts, etc. Then with 4 picks gone, Randle gone, how good is RJ and Booker as the one two punch? We in Beal-Westbrook territory with fewer picks and a sort of not so good team around them?
Book is the real deal and I would very much love to have him on this team. But there is a chess game to be played an you can’t just go after one piece without looking ahead at the rest of the board.
