The core is Randle, Barrett, and Quickley in my opinion, but the guys you mentioned are so critical. It would be a shame to let some of them go and lose what makes this team what it is.

After watching him— are u sure some team won’t give Gibson a 1-2 year 5-6 mm per?

It's weird, Gibson is playing at the same level as he had been doing last year and got no offers. Maybe he wanted to stick with NY?

The center position is strange in the league. It's similar to RB in football. Gibson is the same player, yet he's not a classic rim protector or floor spacer. Same with Kyle O'Quinn. He plays tough on both ends of the floor, but he doesn't have a job right now.

Taj PnR defense and help defense is excellent. KOQ still figuring out what PnR stands for defensively.

Haha

If the goal is to be one of the top 3-4 teams in the east, ideally, we need push Bullock and or Burks down a peg on the depth chart and add a more talented 3. Wouldn't mind signing one but not both. Burks will be very expensive this summer....

I'll also add that Burks really isn't producing at a level that's higher than his previous season. Plus he's older. I think $8M per is what he's probably looking at. I'd say Bullock is also looking at the MLE.

I forgot both guys were 30. If they were 25 I could see giving them 3 year deals, hesitant at the current age.

We have a lot of money next year to offer these guys 1 year deal.

We have about 20m to try t find a pg this summer

Then 30m + to sign returning players for 1 year if they will accept the offer

I’d say draft kispert and Duarte as students of burks and bullock.

This is the second 1 year deal Bullock has signed...At some point, I have to believe he will want a multi year deal.

😅😅 true

Chandler @ 4/19/2021 3:05 PM

how much of their success is due to their role and Thibs?

like them all but all are flawed as well and/or inconsistent. WOuld not break the bank on any because i suspect we could now get commensurate value elsewhere, and of the bunch ALec is most important in my book.

Bullock has been playing well lately but can disappear for long stretches.

Nerlens is playing great D but still hands of stone.

He signed a 2 year deal. Knicks picked up his option.

I wouldn’t be surprised if CP3 opts out and comes here for a 2 year contract- might make re-signing these guys more difficult.

I think Rose can be re-signed relatively cheap, same with Taj. Even Burks shouldn’t be too costly.

I would like to get ahold of one of them for sure. But instead of both, I really think the Knicks should grab a center with the other first round pick. Mitch and Noel are completely up in the air. Isaiah Jackson from Kentucky is very similar to Noel only he has more upside on offense. He was the only bigtime kentucky prospect to have a good year. Payne recruited him and i'm sure Coach Cal speaks highly of him. I would imagine he is on their radar. Knicks probably won't draft a PG in the first round simply because they already have Quickley as a young PG prospect and they will want a vet. I think they go wing and big man in the first round.

Burks and Bullock are very important simply because of their skillsets. Watch them alongside Randle and Barrett. They play well off of those guys and are needed. I believe Noel is the most replaceable. Knicks survived with Gibson/Pelle the other night. I say bring back Noel for cheap and shop Mitch, or if Noel doesn't come back cheap, let him walk and roll with Mitch, Gibson, Pelle, and draft Isaiah Jackson from Kentucky.

What would be the thought process in declining a $44M contract on one of the best teams in the league at age 36?

And then what would be the incentive the Knicks would need to provide to make this happen?

technomaster @ 4/19/2021 3:48 PM
I think this year's Bullock deal was a bit of a handshake from last year's surgery debacle. He is SOOOO much better this season than last. (virtual 2-year deal)

Noel/Burks/Bullock are extremely valuable to us. A big mutual benefit is that they KNOW they're valued and will get minutes. I think extensions in the $5-9m/yr range would be fair market value for them.

These guys made $4.2m-$6m this year.

What did their comps make?
Wayne Ellington ($2.5m), Dotson ($4m/2yr), Justin Holiday ($18m/3yr), Jae Crowder ($30m/3yr), Marcus Morris ($64m/4yr)
Tristan Thompson ($18/2yr), Whiteside ($2.3m), Kanter ($5m), Dwight Howard ($2.56m), Robin Lopez ($7.3m), WCS ($8.2/2yr)

On the other hand, Burks is a little different. He's a bit of a multi-faceted player. Should he be compared more to guys like the Joes:
Joe Ingles (in the middle of a 4year, $52m deal); Joe Harris (just signed a $75m!/4yr)
Holy crap, how did Joe Harris get the Nets to agree to $18m per season? His agent is a hero!

Burks is nowhere near the Harris/Ingles territory.

IMHO he tops out at MLE

Just if the Suns flame out in the playoffs and he wants to end his career in NY now we’re a winning team and Leon Rose is president (he was put off this offseason by the fact without the crowds it wouldn’t be the real NY experience plus we sucked). He’ll have trust in Rose to work out a good contract if he opts out

What do you think of Charles bassey?

Currently have him down as our third pick

On the nba Washington Seems more like a pf.

6 to 8 million a year each i would guess.

You can probably replace their production with one of our 1st round picks.
I’m hoping Kispert falls to us. He would be a perfect for next to randle and Barrett

Randle and Bullock are the best chemistry tandem on the team.
Randle (say/so) will help Bullock get a 4 yr contract.

Burks has been hustling well on offense/defense in any lineup in the games rotation to earn him a keeper contract from Leon in the offseason.

Gibson & Rose are cheap veteran keepers that will play 50 games a season.

This is the best season I ever seen Noel perform .. ???

xavier @ 4/19/2021 9:31 PM
A very difficult question. They all outperform their contracts.

Noel was supposed to be a backup for 15 minutes, but by chance he plays a lot more and didn’t disappoint. Bullock also initially signed a contract below his market value due to injury problems. Burks is good. In fact, I think the least problem will be Rose and Taj. As for the others, as I’ve already written, I’m not quite sure we’re going to keep them all, but I’m OK with that. It is important to make a system. When the system is working, it is easier to replace certain parts.

Yes I like him too. Similar to Jackson, with less overall potential. But he could be a real solid backup and could be the early second round pick if we went that route.

Nalod @ 4/20/2021 1:27 PM
These guys don’t deserve raises quite big after a nice 6 win streak. Fans are giddy and we want to keep the team but reality is league gets better, these guys get older. There are other “castoffs” to be had and we have picks coming in, and yoot to either play or cut loose.
Nobody saw this coming and at the same time nobody can see what’s next either. Enjoy the season.
