Knicks · Kendrick Nunn. Free agent target? (page 1)

BRIGGS @ 4/19/2021 10:52 PM
He’s a hard core two way player. He fits the mood here. He is only 6-2 200 but he’s young and can be explosive offensively.

I remember the bizarre coverage of him when he seemed to break out with the heat, and the media were praising the heat for their shrewd talent evaluation etc, then finding out the reason he didn't get drafted and teams didn't have interest in him was due to him pleading guilty to domestic battery- Just weird that they pretended that wasn't the issue.
xblvdels3 @ 4/20/2021 6:11 AM
Interesting. Possible cheaper 1 year stop gap option if we don’t sign a pg this off season. Looks like he would offer more than Payton?
Knicksfan @ 4/20/2021 6:42 AM
Yes
xblvdels3 @ 4/20/2021 6:50 AM
If the bidding war for Schroeder and Lonzo get to pricey this option would enhance the team while we continue to wait for our second all star player. Also we can continue looking through the draft for future guys.

Also if our current roster does well in the playoffs we can bring them all back using a stop gap player like this. It would create great harmony and culture building.

Don’t rush the process guys. We are trying to be good for a decade and win championships.

BRIGGS @ 4/20/2021 7:28 AM
Not stop gap. This would be somewhat expensive. But he’s got that combination of athletic explosion two way skills that might be a next step type player. A poor mans Dwayne wade
xblvdels3 @ 4/20/2021 7:53 AM
Yea. He is a heat so he is not foreign to defense 😅

Looks interesting. Have to see where we are by the conclusion of the season.

Knicks have some big decisions to make about the roster this off season. 😅

xblvdels3 @ 4/20/2021 8:10 AM
6-7 wingspan... check
6-2.5 6-3 height... vertical leap/intensity/wingspan makes up for it. Check
34 inch vertical check
Defense.. when locked in... check
Lane agility... check good lateral movement
3pt % 38 percent on medium/high volume. Check
Free throw percentage... looks like an 80 percent shooter. Check

Negatives

Doesn’t get to the free throw line a lot.
Probably not good at being a facilitator

Verdict

Possible high break out potential.
Better than Payton but can we do better?
Give serious thought 🤔

Comparable to

Picks 13-16

Cam Thomas
Davion mitchel

Good call Briggs!! These are the type of players we need to be looking for. Young, talented players that may be on the verge of breaking-out and fulfilling their potential but may not be getting the proper opportunity in their current situation.

Nunn has been in and out of the line up. Acquiring Oladipo seemed to bury him on the bench but his recent injury, and Butlers have allowed him to get some minutes and shine. Overpaying Nunn, I think, wont be as much as we would have to pay to pry Lonzo from the Pels. He should definitely be on the radar.

Another player I would look at to replace one of Bullock or Burks is Terence Davis in Sac-Town. Terence Davis is another player who needs more minutes and an opportunity.

Hes the same age as Randle--mid 20's so hed be a core piece for 4-5 years. Hes not a max player but Miami has the cap space to resign him to. So it wont be 7-9mm more like 12-16

I don't get the feeling this FO will overpay for anyone. They seem very conservative about the $$ they give players. They didn't throw a bunch of money at FVV and Haywood last off season, they didn't throw a bunch of assets to get any players in a trade despite the interest.

I think Nunn is still a bench player, and right now I like our guards (rose, alec, IQ) off the bench.

Don't disagree in terms of this FO not overpaying. That's why I think players like Nunn and Brunson (he wont be a FA until next year) might be in play. Nunn won't command as much on the open market as Ball.

With minutes and a bigger role, Nunn can have an uptick in his production similar to what we are seeing with Terry Rozier. And Rozier was close to the same age as Nunn when he signed with Charlotte.

I remember this. It was kinda glossed over because if the Miami "culture." TBH, Dot's issues weren't really pressed that much when he was here. My question is why did Nunn get doghouses at the tailend of last season. He was barely even playing when Dragic was hurt.

I'm not sure why he fell out of favor towards the end of last year...I got a little bit of burn in the finals when Dragic got hurt....Played well in game 5, with 14 pts.

Yeah good point, on the premise that we retain our current bench guards ( rose IQ etc ) for me I’m not sure he really warrants the addition despite me being confident of a performance uptick. I would prefer to take a bigger risk ( and salary hit ) on a more “certainty “ type guy. Or swing for the fences completely and get Lonzo.

The added benefit of a guy like Nunn is that you also take an asset from a competitor.
