Knicks · GameThread: Knicks going for 10, Suns 730 (page 8)

Paul is the reason the Suns are a serious threat out west
WP76 @ 4/26/2021 9:45 PM
Suns are really good and we missed some makable shots down the stretch. Give 'em credit for coming from 15 down on the second of a back to back.

the guy some knick fans wanted no part of because of his contract, they thought last yr was a fluke.

We're 4th/5th in the East, and you're crying about the one that got away.

Respect. I like this Phoenix team. Easy to root for...except for this coming road trip.
GustavBahler @ 4/26/2021 9:49 PM
This would have been a good game to keep Obi in the 4th. Been playing well, both sides of the ball.

+1 Don't think it changes the outcome, but he was earning his minutes tonight.

Randle was off. Definitely need a plan B.

No I just wanted CP really bad, I knew he would have made us elite with THIBs and this coaching staff, we would have been right up there with the NETS and Philly easily, and still traded for rose

Always been a big fan of CP, he is a special on and off the court

Sambakick @ 4/26/2021 9:54 PM
NBA on notice... this level effort is what it takes to beat the Knicks at MSG.

This.

CP3 is a very good player. He was to make $85 million in 2020-2022. He better get you a chip for that price. Not to mention that our PG makes $40 million less and we were up and should have won this game

Sambakick @ 4/26/2021 9:57 PM
Randle has these types of games every 5-6 games or so where he is a little bit diminished. Still impactful play, but not the MVP we have been seeing lately.

I don't know how anybody could say "we should've won this game." Anybody who thinks "hey, we were up 15 pts so that means we should've won the game" evidently doesn't watch a lot of basketball. The Suns are just a better, more talented team than us. It's not much more complicated than that. Booker and CP3 at near their best will beat Randle and RJ playing mediocre 10 out of 10 times.

I don’t think Randle necessarily had a bad game as he was battling double-teams all night.
Today’s game exposed a critical weakness in our offense.
Knicks are very one and two dimensional.
What I mean by this is that most of offense comes off iso or kick-out from penetration.
I wish they tracked stats on how many passes come before every assist, as I guarantee you Knicks are one of the lowest in that category when rating >2 passes before a shot when we do have assists.

We simply dribble too much and rely on hero ball a bit too much.
The first quarter we were crisp and we got away from that.

There are a few reasons for this:
1. We don’t have enough weapons on offense
2. Our passing game is not elite as evident by the many lazy or cross-court passes.

We are in an amazing place considering where we all thought we would be this time of year, but we have to play near perfect to beat the top 4 teams in the league because of this flaw in our offense.

If we were to play more team ball, we could beat anyone...

I would add: Knicks defense is gooood. Few mental mistakes here and there - IQ, Bullock, Rose fouling on 3 point shots - but super solid.

RJ has to get to the next level. Against norm teams he can flourish but he needs to be able to draw fouls, learn to finish at rim, and make MUCH better decisions to get to the next level.

We can handle a loss. This is one of the few teams in the league where having a healthy Mitch is a big deal.

The saving grace is that Atlanta and Miami also lost.

Yeah, I'm not sweating this one. We need to take the Bulls to the woodshed on Wednesday.

Miami scares me. We lose a couple games were in the play in

I watch and played a lot of basketball. But you're right. 'should' would be used for a team on a streak, playing a team in the end of a back to back and wants to be a contender in the playoffs.

martin @ 4/27/2021 10:35 AM
Knicks have obviously missed out on Mikal Bridges but imagine how Philly fans feel: Dude went to Villanova and was drafted by his home town team and then gets traded on draft night.... for Zhaire Smith (and a Miami 2021 first round pick) who is now out of the league

Randle and RJ being arguably our biggest contributors ( like others on any other teams ) will take the brunt of the blame, and much of the criticism for a loss. The fact is we lost this on a team basis / effort. We were beat by a strong PHX team, lead by a future HOF’er, who expectedly came up big in crunch time. It will happen.

We are a rising team far from the finished article. With much to look forward to. I feel we need to establish other multiple offensive strategies, and let others help with the burden and not become too predictable. Ie Randle.

This teams character will be tested in a bounce back win over CHI.
