Smart to get this done before the Olympics. Even if he doesn't stick, sounds like losses are minimal.
This probably means the Knicks aren't going to draft a PG. Does this mean Rose is the assumed starter next year and Vildoza, Quickley, and Burks will share backup PG duties?
I take the opposite. Feel like Vildoza would be more inclined to start but who knows

IF your going to be “Frank” about it, then I doubt Thibs goes to an unproven entity.
But, “ValDoZanity” could sweep the nation in this “made for TV” fantasy! Dude goes on some Oscar Schmidt type hot streak and shocks the NETs!!!!!!!! Cue up JRod and MrEarl for some tunes and play it!!!
I sure hope he's good in the locker room. I'd hate some late term addition like this to be a subtraction to what's going on right now.
I'm no youtube scout, and not every player does everything, but i did notice to my naked eye he struggles to go around defenders below the 3 pt line.
He looks like he tries, but can't turn the corner.

Yeah, I notice too. But a number of Euro guys have done a better job creating separation here than in Europe. I've heard Luka and Marc Gasol say the spacing is better in the NBA and it makes it easier. Could be the case here. I'm encouraged by the fact that his finishing numbers seem solid.
Its just amazing to have a competent FO. Like Knickoftime eluded to he doesnt flash NBA athleticism but he certainly has the handle, moves and jumper. One thing that is really clear is he's both smart and REALLY aggressive on both sides of the ball and skill + aggressive + energy = Thibs kinda guy
Its clear these guys really get at it and push each other in practice and the coaching staff is basing a lot on that. We have some good passers but its mostly drive and dish type ball movement or kicking out of doubles etc... we still dont have a real courtvision guy on the roster. Luca may have that... we'll see. This is looking more and more like a nice upside add.

Very possible, i just don't know about starting an unknown rookie for a playoff team.

I just don't think anyone on the coaching staff or FO could convince themselves that starting Rose is a good idea, especially with his health and age. He'd just get beat up. Partially why I think Payton starts, just to absorb minutes.
Don't even think it's a Rose v Vildoza thing, lots of months for FO to figure it out.

This front office bypass a slew of players they could have had this season through trades and FA signings. They had the cap space, roster spot, an assets to make anything happen. They chose to do nothing and proceeded to kick ass and take names.
At this point questioning anything this FO does as if they didn't do a mountain of research before they make moves is a flat out insult.

I agree, they've earned the benefit of the doubt at this point.

From what I read there would have been a bigger market for this guy in the off-season, but the Knicks were able to swoop in because they had the cap space.
Dang that KP trade…..

Honestly the reason Payton is still starting is only because the Knicks are winning and Thibs isn't going to mess with everyone's role. If Knicks had a losing streak earlier in the year, Rose would have replaced Payton. Rose starting doesn't mean he would get beat up more/increase health concerns. The key is keeping his minutes below 30 per game. I say next year start him and bring Quickley/Vildoza off the bench together. Increase Quickley's usage and minutes to let him take the next step in his progress. Rose should start and finish games, unless there's a plan to bring in another high level PG like Lowry or Ball. The other option would be to start Quickley. I see either of them more likely than Vildoza, at least next season.
You know who is gonna be real happy about this ? Our big men and RJ. The bigs will get a ton of PnR looks and lobs. Luka will find Obi every time he cuts to the hoop on the baseline. RJ will get 2-3 easy buckets in transition per game. This is perfect.

Love this. Outside the box, no risk potential high reward move.
Looks like a good signing. The key will be if he can shoot. Seems like a low risk bet. Like it
