Mia Henderson, 26, was found stabbed to death in an alley in 2014. Five years later, her sister was fatally shot in Baltimore. Keiosha Moore sustained a fatal bullet wound to the chest during an incident in which eight other people were shot on August 11, 2020. Both were sisters of Knicks guard, Reggie Bullock. Bullock spent three seasons at North Carolina and was a 2013 first-round pick of the Clippers.

Born Kevin Long, Henderson was designated male at birth. But she didn’t identify as male. Raised in Kinston, N.C., Bullock admitted to feeling shame when he was younger. There was never a formal coming out; Henderson just was who she was.

“I definitely had to educate myself about transgender issues. But obviously, growing up in a household with a sibling that was pretty much a part of that community, I never disrespected her. I never disrespected her friends.”

Bullock has since become an public advocate for LGBTQ issues.

“The main message I got from my sister is that she was just happy to live her life. You know what I’m saying? She was just happy.”

No one knows the agony Bullock endured last season. The Knicks showed patience and allowed him to heal through a losing season.

Yesterday, in the biggest win of the season, Reggie Bullock played 46 minutes and delivered 24 points (8-17 field goals, 5-12 on 3-pointers, 3-3 free throws), four rebounds, three assists, two steals and a block against the Los Angeles Clippers, the franchise that drafted him.

We forget these are young men in a highly competitive business dealing with pressure at a young age. We call them “soft”, or “low motor” but they enter this profession often as teenagers not fully developed in may ways and then life can throw them a curve.
Its not that they go thru things not common but we dont’ see teens as Dr’s or lawyers quite yet. We see the glory but rarely the crushing pressure.
Obviously we become fond of our players because their on court performance. We lambast Kevin for his low motor or Frankie for his lack of offensive aggression. Reggies journey and success endears us given his experience.
I’m still not sure I like his “Bunny ears” hair style, but enjoying his on court success and with him well either with us or elsewhere in the future!

There is no doubt in my mind Bullock is coming back next year, love his play and person.

His agent called Mills/Perry a “Mench” after his neck needed an operation and we could have have walked away. Knicks handled this well and paid dividends down the road.
I do doubt he comes back. Why? Its the nature of the business. He might get a better deal elsewhere and its good for his career.
