Knicks · Norman Powell last night: 28/6/4 on 17 shot attempts (page 1)
You send out RJ/Randle/Powell every night with rim protection and we will pound you into submission. 3 guys who play both ends and defend multiple positions and can score from anywhere. That's how you go from good to elite.
Powell wont cost max money so good chance you can bring back Noel/Bullock/Rose

I'm very interested in Powell, but how good of a defender is he? I've heard mixed results on him defensively. Is he really lock down like you say?
Knixkik wrote:super strong long wingspan guy and brings it (internet says 6'11). He was really good during Toronto's title run. Maybe a certain Raptor's fan can chime in? His first few years he was a defensive role player. Now he's also brings some offensive firepower and will be 28 next year.fishmike wrote:Lock down defender. Its a good option. We need a blue chip player to add, and Powell def fits the mold of impact on both ends of the floor and doesnt cost us anything

How good of a defender was RJ and IQ before Thibs and his staff got in their heads.
There's 2 thing you should know longer concern yourself with, the FO OVER PAYING A PLAYER, or bringing in a suspect defensive player.
Base on what you have witness so far, the knicks will rather put there cap space in a piggy bank rather than over paying a player, and despite guys like drummond being available, if they don't think the player will fit or plays enough defense, they will bypass that player despite and his talents.
Powell is a solid player for what it's worth, but he was traded from a struggling Raptors team, and the spurs have not been much better with his acquisition, so IDK

I like Powell a heckuva lot more than Trent. Trent is one dimensional and is, ideally, a rotation player. Powell offers a bit more versatility offensively and defensively IMHO and would help the team. My thing Fish is that you hesitate to re-sign our role players, who would sign to cheaper deals, but then you want to sign role players from other teams who are going to cost at least 2x as much. Powell is better than Reggie, but is he 2.5x the player Reggie is? That's what it might take to sign him.

The Blazers gave up Trent for Powell, so I wonder how committed the Blazers are to re-sign him. I imagine that's a goal but how much are they willing to sign him for?
I like Powell and he will definitely fit in with our style and culture. He's a 2-way player on the wing and is an upgrade from Bullock and Burks. You raise an interesting point in terms of value. Bullock is a role player while Powell is more than that. Powell can put the ball on the floor and create for himself and others while Reggie needs players like Powell to create open looks for him.
With that said, I do prefer a wing with a little more size than Powell, but he would be a major upgrade if we were able to get him this summer.

I don't see Powell as the good to elite transformer. if we want to take that step we need a guy like Dame, or Beal, or even ageless CP3 -- not another nice complementary player who is probably the type of guy who will be available with either of our first round picks (though rookie)
No disrespect to Powell, but what Thibs has been able to squeeze out of Bullock and Burks is amazing. And he can do that again
What Thibs can't do is fabricate a Lillard or Beal
BigDaddyG wrote:I think he is... I dont really think Powell is a role player for Portland. He's the 3rd scorer on a team built on scoring. Bullock gets all his scoring off the other guy's gravity and thats great. I think Powell is a guy who can slide into that 2nd scorer also and get you buckets. Honestly i would love this 10 man rotation. Powell is basically an upgrade over Burks in terms of scoring and secondary playmaking. He's more durable too. Burks has been great this year, but has trouble staying on the floor. Powell can be that emergency ball handler and play SG while Barrett moves to SF. Bullock interchangeble with the on the wing.
