I will add that for me what it comes down to is you either bring all 9 back and say this is your 9 man rotation or you have to let Burks go in place of signing a PG like Ball, Lowry, McConnell, Payne, s&t for Brunson (an idea i love), etc. Whomever that player might be.

Feel like you can never have too many wing players who can also handle the ball. Burks has been used as a triple backup PG cause his handle is decent and he can put the ball on the floor to get to the rim.
If a guy like Luca was on the team this year, you wouldn't see Burks in that role.
This offseason will be an interesting one again. Knicks got 3 top 32 picks and a stash pick. I gotta guess they will draft a wing and a big and those guys will be on the roster.

Yes i agree. With 4 draft picks plus Vildoza coming over, i see them doing something, as they won't just draft and have 4-5 rookies on the roster. Here's a few options i see:
1. Standing pat (very unlikely)
2. Packaging picks to trade up (unlikely). I don't see them cashing in for 1 player in the draft who probably doesn't contribute to a playoff team right away
3. Trading pick(s) for future picks (likely). I can see them deferring to continue to maintain a large amount of future picks for trade. It wouldn't be difficult to trade the dallas pick for example for a future lottery protected first round pick, as there will always be a team willing to do it with a specific player on the board.
4. Trading picks on draft day for impact player (likely). This isn't to imply a major trade for a star. I'm talking more of packaging picks on draft day for a solid player they have targeted. Some options: Jalen Brunson, TJ Warren, Malcolm Brodgon, Jeremi Grant. These are players who will cost some combination of 1 or both first round picks, and maybe a young player like Toppin or Knox. Obviously depends on the player. But a player that makes us better without that godfather type offer for a major star.

I don't get that logic. We know that the Knicks target players in the draft. Just because that player may or may not contribute to a playoff team isn't a reason to think that it won't or shouldn't happen.

You're right, maybe it's a little more possible than i initially thought. I just feel like with the idea that the goal-post has moved a bit, that option is less likely than trading the picks for a contributor.

Right now the Celtics/Wizards/Spurs/Thunder are all talking together.( Beal would go to Boston so he can spoon and cuddle with wheezing Tatum, San Antonio and OKC are each vying for Jaylen Brown, Washington wants volume assets from OKC via picks and San Antonio via young players that Boston can't provide. I'm almost sure Pop will end up with Tacko Fall just to try to unleash him and fuck with everyone in the league. ) In order to get the money to work in any fashion, the Knicks would have to get involved. Be interesting as the league hasn't seen something of this potential since the Antoine Walker/Jason Williams trade. If the Knicks take in volume personnel from a large scale trade (At minimum, it would be Kemba Walker and enough picks from OKC to make this digestible. Celtics and Spurs could also send youth. ), this impacts what they do in FA. They have every incentive to use their three top picks and keep them on the roster. Again, that will impact FA. Also it's unclear what the league will do about roster size/two way contracts/G League/etc given the pandemic. That will also impact FA.
If you track what Brock Aller did in terms of methodology with Collin Sexton and Darius Garland, the logical inference will be
1) Gary Trent Jr
2) Talen Horton-Tucker
3) PJ Tucker
4) Nic Batum
5) Daniel Theis
6) Bryn Forbes
Any of these guys are worthy of their own dedicated thread. Not sure why there is this universal dick sucking for Lonzo Ball, Mike Conley, Chris Paul and Kyle Lowry around here.
The Knicks desperately need guys who can space the floor who aren't going to demand a max contract or something near it or a high AAV cap hit. If you want Julius Randle to have another great season, this team needs to put more shooters around him.
The above names are not sexy. But neither were Burks, Noel and Bullock in the last off season.
Gary Trent has gotten more buzz than any other individual player from my ears on the grapevine in the last 6 weeks. I get there are bigger "name" players but this league butters it's bread on long range gunners.
