Knicks · Do you want to trade Julius Randle? (page 1)

BigDaddyG @ 6/2/2021 11:28 PM
Choice 3: I don't know. Don't want to make a rash decision. Gun to my head, I'd probably lean towards "no." Everyone is tradeable if the right deal comes along, but I think it will be impossible to get equal value back.
blkexec @ 6/2/2021 11:29 PM
My knee jerk reaction says yes. Cause we just lost. But as we calm down, and think for a second....Randle was ready to give his all for this team. And he's no scrub. Plus other players are now watching how the FO treats Randle. How do the fans treat a players who bleeds orange and blue. Works in the offseason and earned a MIP award. Randle is a keeper. Plus we will never get back equal value, especially with his playoff performance. Keep him...build around him. And evaluate him with a better team of skilled players around him. #Barz
ToddTT @ 6/2/2021 11:37 PM
Keep him. I think he uses this postseason as fuel.
jskinny35 @ 6/2/2021 11:52 PM
We shouldn't trade him just to trade him - but this series hopefully opened our eyes that he is not the Giannis/Lebron type player that the entire offense revolves around. He is a good 2nd player star on a very good team and he has value so if there is an opportunity to improve the team overall via trade - absolutely. I'd be up for resigning him at a reasonable rate if we also add a PG that gets the ball out of his hands more.
xblvdels3 @ 6/3/2021 6:17 AM
Amazing hawks defense that Randle was seeing double teams and we couldn’t get our shooters and open look. Amazing job hawks. But the hawks only shot wide open 3s lol

On the flip-side, players might also be watching how the team is dedicated to winning. Never forget, business and loyalty do not mix. We can’t make moves to impress players on other teams, even if it’s because of free agency. That’s a losing proposition. We have to make tough moves because it will lead to winning (and money obviously) in hopefully both the short and long-term.

Clean @ 6/3/2021 6:53 AM
We can keep him and see how he handles the butt kicking he got this series. I would not be against trading him if a good deal comes. I just don't believe he is a winning player when every team tries hard. Regular season games can be won just by playing hard every game. This is why Thibs teams always over perform. I am trying to figure out how Randle will handle not having the offense ran through him every single time down. How does he play off a real number 1 or 2 option?

He turns over the ball a lot. He is a slow decision maker. He is easily game planned out of the game completely. He constantly takes low percentage shots. He is a poor shooter from range. His defense is OK in the best of times and drops lower depending on how he is playing that game. Players like Chris Bosh you can see how he fits in an offense as a third option. I can't see it from Randle. If people are considering keeping him as a 1st option I am dead against that. We will be too good to get generational talent in the draft and be too bad to advance from the 1st round. Randle improvement was a great story but don't let a great story cause us to be on the dreaded treadmill of mediocrity.

BRIGGS @ 6/3/2021 7:14 AM
Keep him.
But the Randle we saw in the playoffs was a worse version of the player who the Knicks wanted to move and why they drafted obi. We have to give him a mulligan. I wonder if fans no fans had effect on him
franco12 @ 6/3/2021 7:15 AM
If I am trading him, it is for draft picks, and high ones. Can we get into the lottery trading Randle and one or two of our picks this year? I doubt it.

So keep him, and build with, not around him.

Knicksfan @ 6/3/2021 7:36 AM
Let’s be objective here:

Julius Randle came into the league with lots of talent. Everywhere he went to, he showed some potential while also struggling to show consistency and being able to be a main weapon on a team.

That’s why he was available to the Knicks. His first season was almost the same. Then came the breakout this season and all was great. But then this playoffs he looked like all the bad Randle we had seen before: forcing things, not involving others, bad shots, turnovers. Lots seems mental, but still worrisome. Yes, a short bad stretch, but one with elements previously seen.

Where are we now? I think we are still in a better situation than before this season. Most would’ve traded him for a can of soup. His value is there, just not the untouchable value we gave him during the season. He can’t be your number 1 option. Could be your second, at least until RJ is ready to take over, if he does.

To me, I don’t WANT to trade Randle, but I will consider any trade and if a good one is available, I won’t hesitate to make it. He is an asset but a volatile one. I’d rather explore trade options before Randle reverts to his bad habits, if that happens at all.

knicks1248 @ 6/3/2021 7:59 AM
I don't want him as our full time ball handler.. 8 turnovers was clownish

Thats was the worse playoff series for any knick i can remember

MS @ 6/3/2021 8:12 AM
Honestly, he was a warrior all season long. But, what we saw in the playoffs was alarming.

I have never seen anyone forget how to play so quickly. He was the worst player on the floor and his stats were so empty. 8 turnovers don’t tell the story. Every pass he threw was touch or deflected. Every shot was a force from deep.

He’s unreadable if he plays like this again.

The warriors are the perfect fit for him. Wiseman, the Minnesota pick could be an interesting package.

I’d consider that trade.

I agree....gotta make moves that helps the team. What I'm talking about are emotional moves and changes just to do something or to make headlines, becauseof how we lost. If a star player is looking for a new home, I'm sure they are looking for a team with a solid foundation vs a blank sheet of paper, which is the result of blowing this up and starting over. I don't think this team should be blown up. We have something good here that we can build on. We just need a player who can take over a game and play heavy minutes. Hawks has that 1 player in Trae, with a bunch of solid Randles amd RJs around him. That's how we should approach this off season. And that's what I believe this FO will do. Build around the good, and trim the fat. Whatever that means in basketball terms. Lol. I'm still a believer that Mitch is a foundation player to keep. But we need better vets while continuing to add to our youth movement.

Lord have mercy. This fan base doesn't deserve a damn thing. A player busts his ass after being a laughingstock to become a top 20 NBA player and a significant portion want to trade him. At the very least you give him another season to prove himself. I believe that he will come back next season hungrier with an even better skill set. Beyond pathetic stuff I’m seeing here and these same fans will wonder why no one wants to play for us.

I wouldn’t. That’s a stupid trade. Wiseman is so suspect and we already have Mitch and you don’t give up Randle for unproven commodities. You think Kuminga is taking this team places?

Welpee @ 6/3/2021 10:05 AM
The guy was all-NBA for 72 games and then you trade him after 5 bad playoff games? Come on, now. That thinking is very much "same ole Knicks." We need to start changing how we think. Build on what we have, not reset the clock after every set back.

Well said - this is exactly how I see it, too. But I think Randle could be an excellent #2 option. He's young enough to adapt his game if we get a true alpha scorer (e.g., Trae/Beal type). As #1, Randle can be game-planned to oblivion...clearly. And then the rest of his game drops off.

Randle has played with Kobe and AD. Im sure he understands how to play along side another star. Thats the new NBA.

jskinny35 @ 6/3/2021 12:18 PM
It doesn't matter what he deserves (loyalty) for rebounding from last season or based on history of us sucking - it comes down to what you think Randle is for our team. To me, if he can step back and play a 2nd or 3rd tier guy, and accept getting paid like that - then no reason not to resign him. I think it's more likely that he believes he's the 1 guy because he looks around and realizes he is currently the best we have to offer - he will probably want the max. I don't think we get rid of him because he bombed against the Hawks, but I do think we have to consider is it a good path to still try to add parts around him or better/easier to shift the building plan away from
Randle as the focus. Regardless, I'm 100% certain we shouldn't think he's the guy and try to rebuild around him. Hope Thibs has a heart to heart and tells him he is valued and can be a big piece - but the ball will come out of his hands more next season. Best case Randle feels relieved/agrees so he can focus on being an occasional ISO scorer who is a tough matchup and pulls the opposing teams 4 away from the hoop. RJ takes another step, maybe we land Lonzo or a solid PG and then we look toward scoring a bigger fist in a year or so (Zach Lavine).
