Based on the June 18 2021 nba draft room mock draft
My final list of players worth moving up for. Picks (5-18)
1. Johnathan kuminga - doesn’t shoot the 3 well (glaring flaw other attributes are very good)
2. James bouknight - poor defensively (glaring flaw. Other attributes are very good)
3. Jared butler - not a pure pg ( other attributes are very good)
4. Davion mitchel - 1 trick pony. Line drive speed to basket finish. (Will it translate against better rim protectors. Great defense. Buyer in his shot. Good pg. gets anywhere on the floor. very quick.
players other fans might like
1. Moses moody - better bullock with defense.
2. Keon Johnson - great athletism/mid range but can’t shoot the 3. So do we give away picks on hope?
3. Josh giddey - also doesn’t shoot well and has dribble issues. Point forward.
4. Franz Wagner - I think he will be an average journeyman against better athletes.
5. Kai Jones - slightly better Toppin defensively.
So Jared butler kuminga and Davion mitchel seem to me to be the best players we need to move up for.
Runner up- bouknight
Now the question? Are these 3 players worth losing 3 picks potentially for?
Coach doesn’t like rookies but maybe the front office does lol
Would we have better odds picking 3 players 19-30 range?
We need players who can score to get us into advanced playoff rounds. They need to be able to shoot or create their own shot.

Why do people continue with this narrative about the coach not liking rookies? If anything, NO coach likes rookies.

Yea I don’t know if it’s true or not but I read it a lot online 😅
I wouldn’t move up (5-18) for any of these players. I’ve researched them all.

Keon Johnson can be good if he ever learns to shoot
The rest 5-19 Insufficiencies will not help us.
Stick with players in the 19-30 range. With all our picks.

If we move up its a process. Small moves that could aggregate. Issue is the end goal is not always achieved. Aller might have his chess board moves but if there are 7 moves to make for example, he might get derailed. Then plan b, c, etc. Our last draft night looked like that. Did not always make sense but in the end it was purposeful.

Good points. From watching how they operated last year I’m confident that they know what they are doing.

In hindsight I think they were trying to draft Maxey 23 and position themselves to trade later in the first for IQ and once Philly got Maxey they took IQ at 23.
I just hope Aller get the Knicks in position to add talent. This draft is more talented next year and a lot of teams have multiple picks that can be traded for.
I don't think Kuminga is realistic. That could change, but he seems firmly stuck at 5 and we don't really have the pieces to move up. Bouknight's projections have been all over the place and he could easily drop to us. I like Mitchell, but not enough to trade up for him. Anyway, this draft board is so fluid that most moves probably won't be solidified until draft day.
I disagree on Bouknight and Butler. I think Bouknight could easily be a two way player but he lacks the concentration which is something that can be rooted out. Also Butler is definitely a full time PG. He dosen't have Giddey/Cooper passing but that shouldn't discount his passing ability. The good thing is that so far I don't think we'll have to move up that much or even at all to snag the guys we want.

Feel like the picks in the 19+ in this draft are stronger than they have been in past years. So much that moving up from 19 and 21 doesn't really seem that valuable to me.
I don't have any player that I specifically must have at 12+ and I can see a lot of movement in that range such that a player targeted at 12-15 could still be available at 19 without a trade.
I'd be most likely to take BPA at 19 and be open to offers at 21 and 32 if they add value. That said, to the extent the 10 man rotation is likely to be filled with vets, I don't really think its a big deal if they add all three picks to fill out the roster spots at 11-15 and a 2 way slot. Seems like a very strong way to fill out this bench and create roster depth, especially since this coaching staff appears quite adept at training young players. I would not hesitate to fill the bench with some of the more athletic projects and develop them into rotation players.
More simply put, I think the picks are more valuable than just trading up than they might be in other years. I think there is going to be a lot of talent deep into this draft. Enough that I might actually just use these picks.
