Knicks · Coaching revolving door…… (page 1)

Thought we could have a coaching change thread to discuss the league.

Kidd going to Dallas. This is good. Kidd can better show how KP can better protect his image and behave badly to women. Also teach Luka to be more team oriented.
This has ramifications for our 2023 pick. Naturally we need a full blown regression season after next. seems about right.

Blazers seem to be focused on Billups? Becky Hamman? I’d think with Lillards blessing? Women coach? I like it.
Wiz. Mosley needs to interview there.
Luke Walton is really staying? I guess so.
Celts Go with Udoka. Glad he finally got a gig.
Glad Johnny Bryant is not getting any traction. Perhaps this was prearranged he not take interviews for a specific time or he is next in line after Thibs contract runs? Time will tell.

Bucks make it to finals have to think Bud’s job is safe. Thank KD’s big toe.
Orlando? Stotts?
Pels?

Billy DOnovan did a shit job this year in Chicago. He’ll ride it out.
Is Pop really never to retire?

4 of the last 5 coaches in the playoffs were black coaches.

3 of the 4 remaining are black.

i think more black coaches should be the first step in representation and that should translate to more black presidents/gm's.

Is Billups gonna get cancelled before he even starts?

In Their Own Words: Five Women Offer Thoughts on Chauncey Billups Hire

Last night major media outlets reported that the Portland Trail Blazers had offered their vacant head coaching position to Chauncey Billups, a former NBA player and current assistant coach with the Los Angeles Clippers. In 2000, Billups settled a civil lawsuit stemming from a 1997 incident in which a woman said she was sexually assaulted by Billups and other Boston Celtics players at the time. No criminal charges were filed. Police reports published in the book “Out of Bounds” by Jeff Benedict, summarized here and here [trigger warning for graphic descriptions], detail the narrative and aftermath.

The community surrounding the Blazers had a strong reaction to the news. Many voices weighed in. Today, we’re sharing a few of those with you. These are the responses of some of the women in the Trail Blazers community. This is neither a scientific sample nor a trial of evidence. It’s not meant to be. We asked for thoughts in the wake of the hiring. These women shared theirs

Definitely sketchy but if he wasn’t charged let alone convicted it shouldn’t cost him his job.

NBA players live a hedonistic lifestyle

Multiple stories of guys running trains on women, or being accused of rape but mostly it sounds like regret or multiple stories of them paying women to “stay” and go, or flying them over for a weekend and paying them to leave.

Some of them get married and then have to be scared of divorce because they are on the road for months out of the year.

Lavar Ball once said he felt bad for his sons because they won’t be able to find a good woman like their moms because of the life they lead and he was right. Lonzo high school sweetheart left him and is getting paid a ton in child support and the rumors are LaMelo is dating a porn star.

Hedonist all the way back to Wilt and Magic

I don’t understand the train thing - our second half mvp Rose seemed to enjoy that experience as well. I am far far far from a saint, but ewww.

More black coaches in the NBA will NOT translate to more African American team presidents and/or general managers.

There IS a relationship between being a long time GM and then be promoted to a team president role, but that's different.

If you want to be a General Manager in the NBA, there are only a few pathways

1) Be a current or former high profile agent

2) Be a current or former member of the sports media in some fashion

3) Be a former player who was groomed into a front office role for some franchise

4) Be a former player who shifted into coaching and then shifted into the front office ( it's not so common, it does happen, it's not the most practical path)

5) Be the core analytics/salary cap guru for your franchise and be good at it

The last one is the most practical path into a future GM and then eventually a team president role.

How many of these former players are taking heavy STEM classes in college? How many coaches, of any race, are neck deep in high level statistics and can program?

If more young black kids grew up wanting to be the next Neil Degrasse Tyson and not the next LeBron James, your wish would come true. ( Point to note, NDT was also accused of sexual harassment/misconduct so even he has issues here)

If Zack Lowe or Max Kellerman or Bill Simmmons said what I just said in public, even if it's true, because it's true, they'd be called racists and then many people in the NBA would demand they be fired from their jobs.

There is zero correlation between being black and being successful as an NBA team president and/or general manager. Zero. Absolutely zero. It's the same if you are white, Asian, Latino/Hispanic and even if you were Martian.

A large part of the problem in the current NBA, is if the players hear something they just don't want to hear, the first instinct is to start calling other people racists. It's an often cheap and lazy way to ignore how things actually function below the line in professional sports. It doesn't mean there is no racism at all. That's not realistic either. But using the race card like a baseball bat and bludgeoning everyone over the head with it only loses the NBA even more fans.

Rich Paul could be an NBA general manager if he wanted in a few years. Plenty of precedent for a former high profile agent to shift over to a front office. He's African American. Would that give you comfort in some way? Here's the problem. Rich Paul is a fucking idiot. He has a high profile job as a front man for LeBron James. Paul thought it was a good idea years ago to pay for LBJ's drugs from Biogenesis WITH A PERSONAL CHECK.

But he's BLACK! That's the mostest important thing in the ENTIRE WORLD!

You mean more important than the issue that he's a complete and total imbecile being carried by a generational level basketball talent who decided Rich Paul should be important to the NBA?

WHO THE FUCK WRITES A CHECK TO BUY ILLEGAL DRUGS? And not just himself, but for one of the highest profile athletes in the entire world.

Nothing makes me laugh harder than seeing someone decry racism then pushes a solution that can only find a pathway, in all bitter irony, through open and egregious racism.

Shifting inequality in a different direction is not actual progress.

Dolan should have listened to Phil when he was trying to trade him in 2017 and was about to get us a nice package instead of listening to the ignorant loudmouth kunts in the media

The Mavs are a garbage roster outside of Luka. If the pick wasn’t top ten protected we’d be a Luka injury from a top 3 draft pick
