I'll throw this in here as well, tho I have more interest in Canada, Argentina and France's schedule than I do team USA. Knicks come first
wargames @ 6/28/2021 2:11 PM
We’ll see what happens. Someone may still drop out and Randle can get in
TPercy @ 6/28/2021 2:11 PM
Thanks for this! Will be looking forward to watching him and I understand KLove's expierience being an important factor but cmon Julius should've gotten the nod.

Awesome thanks. Hope you don't mind me changing thread title a bit and making this the official Olympics games thread.

I personally think it’s bull poop that he didn’t get the invite

That said I hope he doesn’t get asked to take a spot and uses it as motivation in the offseason

Is it just me who thinks it's just as well if they don't play? Not a big deal really but extra mileage and injury opportunities....

I'd agree with guys on deep playoffs team but feel like Randle would get uber exposure to high level guys and it would rub off on him in a good way.

Practice/play on team versus working out... same mileage? Maybe not same but similar

I doubt he needs the motivation.
Sure I prefer he make the team than not. I also like when guys like love are given an honors spot and provide leadership.
And………….Never know he might be a knick sooner than later!!!!

I think he needs the rest after leading the league in minutes played

Colagelo said Randle turned down chance to participate in 2019 for family reasons and he just signed with knicks.
His wife is pregant right now.
Maybe he cool with it? Olympics not a popular thing in Japan now with Covid issues due to population not vaccinated in mass.

There was a certain charm about our kids playing in the olympics before the rule change allowing professionals. I’d like to see a unilateral change for players under a certain age for all teams. Means no Gasol brothers, Rubio and others that are National heroes but it opens it up to new heroes. Perhaps it tilts it too much in our favor? There has to be some competitive balance. Team USA rolling on the field is not a great or the sport. Sure we freak out if we lose but winning is all but expected and perhaps a bit “boring”? Does it really resonate if a player has 3 metals vs. 2? I dig that Durant stood up and raised his hand. But is it time to move aside and let others shine? If all teams did this it works. Maybe the older guys can be a part of it and coach?

A “Back in the day moment”: then Kareem Abdul Jabbar did not participate in the 1968 olympics in protest. In his place a little known player from a college in Detroit made the team and became its star. Spencer Haywood rose from obscurity to lead the young amateur group to a gold metal. His is a big part of his HOF cred. With new stardom he signed with the ABA after just one year of college and was its rookie of the year and MVP. The next year he sued the NBA and won allowing him to sign with Seattle and other underclassman to follow. HE as a 5 time Allstar and tore up the NBA until he came to NY and got into Jazz, married a supermodel and cocaine.

Without his Olympic heroics he does not rise so meteoric so fast.

We’d have professionals still but we’d be moving side the established big names for younger ones. Many of those have big contracts and owners likely would be very happy. Gone would be the Hardens, Durants, Lebrons, etc who are the backbone o the team but really we just kill all others and its a formality when we win gold.

I think if Simmons played Australia would be very good as would canada. Competition is healthy.

this - and this is also one of those recruiting forums for super teams. Playing with other top talents. Doesn't always work, but it helps.

But I agree on the miles and extra injuries.

Perhaps you’re used to people taking 20 steps back. His move was actually legit. If he can add that then he’ll be a 25 point per game scorer.

technomaster @ 6/30/2021 10:37 AM
Just RJ’s highlights.
Finished right, showed off the step back 3. Really nice game. Nice to see him shine.

No downplaying the performance - the Greek team has a legit coach in Rick Pitino and they definitely tried to force him right.

Exciting to see some of the things he’s working on.

The release could be sped up but thats the key and he knows it too. His trainer has been saying how the next step over the summer for him is shooting off the dribble. if he can maintain his shooting splits while increasing OTD shots then yeah he's going to be a monster.
