Bush to Give Fresh Assessment of Economy

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Bush is giving Congress a fresh assessment of the troubled economy as he prepares to sign a $168 billion stimulus package into law.

The economic report is an annual event — a mainstay like the State of the Union address and the presentation of a new budget to lawmakers on Capitol Hill.

Bush, who is expected to sign the stimulus package later this week, has said he thinks the basic fundamentals of the economy are stable. But he also acknowledged in a weekend broadcast interview that "the signs are troubling enough" that he felt the tax rebates he worked out with Congress were necessary.

PS: Is this mostly happening after you drink? I was out drinking with a bunch of friends. Funny thing happened this morning. I'm sitting in the car on 78th street and guess who walks by. None other than all star Marv. He was out drinking till late too.
