Knicks · Anyone feel confident about the Knicks getting a specific player ? (page 1)

A lot of rumors out there but no one really knows anything. Media is generally in the dark about most Knicks moves. Who are you confident the Knicks will actually sign as a new player? (not a resign). For some reason Devonte Graham makes sense. I can also see josh Hart. But like everyone else I don’t have a clue.
martin @ 8/1/2021 7:16 PM
I think you are right about not knowing what they will do. I can imagine a lot of different scenario's going around.

2 that have piqued my interest:

- Trade for Indian's TJ Warren. He was injured last year and hated the coach and opted to have surgery and miss the entire year. Indiana drafted Duarte (although he may not be a straight SF replacement) while having Justin Holiday, LaVert, Brogden, Lamb, with McDermott as an UFA. I can see the Knicks giving up something for this guy.

- Somehow Talen Horton-Tucker has popped up as a target for the Knicks, I kinda sorta believe it (past the normal media fodder). Could be an interesting sign and trade type deal for a player like Bullock/Burks/Rose if the Lakers are so interested.

I think it's a good sign that we're not hearing many leaked reports about the Knicks next move come Free Agency.

Let's me know our Front Office is playing chess and not checkers and that something big is about to happen

(with no media smoke leading up to it).

I think we're playing our cards tight (before splashing).

If we actually go hard after Reggie Jackson I think he’s ours and is an instant upgrade at PG

Problem is we arent

Chandler @ 8/1/2021 9:59 PM
interesting thought about TJ Warren.

i have no confidence on specific players. I do feel confident though that the Knicks have opportunity for substantial improvement with reasonable gets.

PG can improve tremendously with even an average starting pg with some ability to space floor (though he will need to consistently touch the paint on his drives too)

and as much as i liked Reggie Bullock we cna improve pretty significantly at the 3. We need a more consistent scoring threat. there are periods where Reggie kind of gives an opponent a breather

gradyandrew @ 8/2/2021 2:28 AM
Absolutely clueless! I really don't know id they will go for it or not.
smackeddog @ 8/2/2021 6:05 AM
I think we end up with Fournier and Monk.

Maybe PG gets filled with DJ Augustine (plan z), or Reggie Jackson

Things seem to have gone silent with regards to Norman Powell, who we were heavily rumored for at the trade deadline, so there's always a chance of that.

Honestly, I see this going the way of last years free agency, except I think we have a chance at Fournier (this years Hayward)

Last year I think barely said just before FA started that the Knicks would likely hold on their cap space for the following offseason, so if he doesn't say that again just before FA begins, maybe it means we're confident of at least one reasonable signing.
Jmpasq @ 8/2/2021 7:40 AM
No, once again we are headed for dumpster diving. Fans will say its because we want to stay flexible for next season. Fact is no one wants to play here. We just aren't a top tier FA destination.

Yup, and the 1 yr contracts are getting silly at this point, because I'm sure if Burk, Noel, or Bullock were under contract, they could have been used in a trade to move up in the draft. A lot of teams are looking for quality vets to add to there young core.

Saving Cap space for next offseason after failing to utilize the $$$ in the last 27 months is not a good plan. Dudes are resigning with their respective team for big bucks, and teams are doing whatever they can to keep them. Beal will be off the books, lavine will resign a max deal, then what?

Clean @ 8/2/2021 8:39 AM
Unless they know something I would never wait for big name guys. The Knicks history is not good with big name guys wanting to come until they are overpaid and past their prime. I would spend money on young talent that can grow into a good overall group. Leon has connections so maybe he knows ore than me.

Everything that I’ve read suggest Schroeder and Fournier if the superior options are off the table… I will be so disappointed if that becomes true

I would like Graham/Sexton (I’d prefer the latter but the deal is probably better for Graham) and Oubre… assuming that we can’t get Paul/Lowry

So Graham or Schroder and either Fournier or Hart. Some combination of those for a modest improvement at PG and wing seems somewhat likely. I personally think Fournier would be a big pickup. He's a boring name but brings what Burks did last year but more of it.

knicks1248 @ 8/2/2021 9:20 AM
just sign Lowrey, Derozen, Portis, rose, noel
VDesai @ 8/2/2021 11:10 AM
They have been good about keeping things tight-lipped. I think we flirt with the big name veteran PGs, think about the Grahams of the world, but ultimately keep Rose. I think we look to upgrade the Bullock role with more of a knockdown shooter like a Fournier. I could see us try to keep Noel as well. Taj comes back at vet min. After all that I think we probably retain enough space for a big move next year.

All these media people really know nothing about the Knicks. Berman obviously has a little intel because he called Grimes and also mentioned McBride. Begley seems to have ideas too as does Macri. But generally most are just guessing up until something happens. Woj and Shams have very little intel on the knicks it seems.

EwingsGlass @ 8/2/2021 11:33 AM
Feel like it is going to be Schroder/Oubre or Fournier/Holmes. Nothing sexy or fun, but as you read about the trade attempts and what the Knicks are looking for and compare to last year, there is incremental growth to be had, still. If the price is right they become good trade chips.
VDesai @ 8/2/2021 11:34 AM
Berman throws every name out there at some point so he is bound to be right. What was interesting about the draft is he specifically dropped Thibs' name as loving Grimes/McBride, so interesting that's how it went.

If the FO is building with heavy input from Thibs than that's how we really need to think about the FA targets. To me I think he would have a hard time letting go of Noel - he really made that defense tick and a rangy center who can rim protect but also help on the perimeter was a hallmark of what he did with the Bulls (Noah).

yeah that is really underwhelming. I mean we have been progressively getting better in every area with this new FO starting with the win column. Cant say they have done anything but a good job but I suspect its going to Fornier and some middle tier PG and that is not super exciting.
martin @ 8/2/2021 11:57 AM
This Knicks FO has a type, give or take. Same with draft as it is with FA's. Hard working, little to no background noise, team players; high end talent in particular circumstances will bend those rules some.

In the FA market I have the Knicks going after Duncan Robinson or Fournier. Both can play SF/SG and don't need ball in hands. Why SG....?

I think the Knicks will take a 2 pronged approach and also build with Damian Lillard in mind.
