Knicks · After sleeping on it I think we did well (page 1)

I think the Knicks upgraded with Fournier while still keeping the core intact that allowed us to finish 4th in the east. After watching Fournier in the Olympics and last year highlights he can really score and put the ball on the floor as well as make the right pass when needed . Plus we upgraded just by drafting grimes and McBride .

Mitch,Noel,Simms
Randle,Obi,knox
RJ,grimes,knox
Fournier,burks,IQ
Rose,IQ,McBride

That’s a really balanced roster the way Obi played at the end of the year and playoffs I think a lot of fans are sleeping on how good he’s going to be in year two. Quick is Lou Williams 2.0 on year two, burks was one of the best 4th quarter players in the league. Randle is a borderline superstar, rj is a stud that could become a All Star in year 3. everyone except Mitch in the starting line up can put the ball on the floor .

Simply put the Knicks improved from a team that finished 4 th in the east.

The bulls added ball who I think is grossly overrated. He’s a low motor player, who still takes plays off. He might get them the 8th seed of there firing on all cylinders.

This whole lowery makes the heat contenders is silly he is on the downward swing in his career and really looked over the hill last year. On a underwhelming raptors squad that was supposed to make the playoffs last season. They also locked in Robinson who I like but not for 90 mil. They are locked into untradable contracts . Lowery was out for a money grab, while his market value hasn’t hit rock bottom, it will this year.

The way I see it we are still the fourth best team in the east. Put into the fact that now a non basketball move is a offensive foul that young lives off of we might see a big drop off from players like young and harden .

Bucks
Nets
76ers
Knicks
Hawks
Heat
Celtics
Bulls
Pacers
Hornets

All the other teams are bottom feeders two teams that might be a downward surprise are the Celtics and 76ers

76ers were exposed vs the hawks.

Surprise teams I see could be the hornets if healthy and pacers if healthy. But by all means the Knicks are 4th or 5th pending on how the hawks play with the new rules

You just can't put the Knicks ahead of the Hawks, just no way. And I think you will see the Heat above us too.

After that, it's a crapshoot IMO

Thanks for posting this. We did fine. It was boring so people are up in arms. I love the Fournier signing, and i'm happy we brought back Rose and Burks. We got better. The Fournier signing was a nice steal from boston too, who wasted 2 draft picks for him and then got worse. Besides Miami and maybe Chicago, no one in the east took a step forward. Knicks had a boring, decent start to free agency with more cap space and flexibility as there's a lot of good players on the market without much money left other places. The front office spent the first day making sure they got better, now this is when they need to get resourceful. Free agency was never going to be the end-all-be-all. The goal was to get better, and ultimately the trade market is where the big splash will need to happen. Moving 19 for a future pick tells us that's the plan. I wanted Bogdanovic last year and i think the Fournier deal makes up for it. We need those types of players to be more dangerous in the playoffs.

Lots of didn't sleep on it threads.

One more thing -- has the last move been made?

Last move hasn't been made. There's still so many options with cap space plus contracts of Knox and/or Vildoza. If they wanted to they could free enough money for DeRozan or Schroder, but not sure if they want to.

Celtics, Heat, Pacers and Hornets all could leap frog us. I can't say we did well. Granted, FA isn't over, but I can't say that the Knicks are guaranteed a playoff spot if the season started today.

what about if Collins signs elsewhere or if the refs stop giving Trae 10+ FTs a game for his antics?

man, i hate that guy; hope McBride smacks his teeth out

We shit the bed.

Jazz got Rudy Gay on a 2 year with a player option, Patty Mills is out there, Malik Monk, there we plenty of team friendly options. Smart moves similar to last year.

Fournier and Rose are essentially your point guard which you are paying 34MM for, that’s not smart.

It was a coin flip with the Hawks, they jumped us. The Heat jumped us. A healthy Hornets to jumps us. The Bulls should be better than us and the Celtics had a down year. So we are fighting for a playoff spot.

None of the guys we signed have a ceiling to get better. What if Rose breaks down? Noel can’t score but is an elite defender. Fournier has some of the worst playoff numbers of all time. Now he’s playing in NYC?

Would have rather seen more minutes for the young guys this year.

This screams of a trade for Dame coming. Look for Mitch, RJ, IQ, 4-5 First rounders on the way out.

Celtics only lost in free agents, heat over payed for a over the hill lowery and retained a 90 million Robinson. Pacers silent, hornets need to stay healthy.

I don’t see any of those teams leap frogging us… if we don’t finish in the top 5 we will be overwhelmingly underperforming.

We now have a starting 5 with offensive weapons in 4 of 5 spots and a deep second unit. With a potential DPOY candidate in Mitch .

I could see the heat have hot streaks but lowery is going to be very underwhelming at his age. Like he was last year.

They weren't really that far back from us to begin with. It's not like the Knicks had an ironclad hold on a top 5 seed to begin with. Honestly, this team got lucky with injuries, Covid related absences etc. Jimmy was injured early on, Pacers got hit with injuries later on etc. This team needs more for anyone to say a playoff spot is guaranteed.

We got marginally better, if that. We are looking like a team that will compete for seeds 6-8 in the playoffs. Depending on health, the Heat will leapfrog us for sure and the Pacers will be better coached, and will be getting back their best scorer in Warren. Charlotte all of a sudden has a ton of talent, but still very young and inexperienced.

Knixkik @ 8/3/2021 2:35 PM
People calling this a busted offseason, what did they expect? Was it Chris Paul or bust? I just don't see what options were out there via free agency. We got one of the top players to switch teams and resigned most of the rest of our team that took us to the playoffs. The team is still loaded with youth and future picks for major upgrades.
TPercy @ 8/3/2021 3:15 PM
As long as Rose and Burks give similar performances to contract value than this was a decent off season so far. Provided that Fournier, Rose, Burks, and Noel all perform reasonably well then they can also be good pieces to move around to finally acquire a PG.
NYKBocker @ 8/3/2021 3:24 PM
I think we did well. We added 3 shooters and a backup C in the draft. 2 of them are Thibs type defenders. We added a a 20 point scorer that can shoot. Brought back our own FA's that was vital to our success last season. We did well.
Knicksfan @ 8/3/2021 3:40 PM
If you sip some kool aid, yeah, the Knicks are fine. Fournier will help the offense and, we’ll, that’s where the improvement stops. To expect anything from the rookies is wishful thinking. Not that it won’t happen, but it’s not a given.

In all honesty, expecting the Knicks to repeat at the 4th spot is a little delusional. Not only are the Hawks considerably better than us, but the Heat and Bulls could argue to be better than last season and better than us.

And after the season and hopefully another playoff berth, what’s next? We are primed for another first round exit as currently constructed. We did improve offense, but not by much. PG is still an issue and the plan might not hold for a whole season unless one of the rooks claims the nod. Oh, how much I wish that happens, but again, it’s not a given.

IMO, Knicks played to repeat in the season, not to improve as to not have a repeat of the Hawks series.

Shooting really wasn't that big of a need during the regular season. They already had more than enough center depth and it looks like that will continue. What they needed was a legit NBA PG. Short of that, I can't see how anyone can say the Knicks did well. There's still work to do as far as I can see.

Right. We'd still get smoked in a series vs the Hawks.

We did much better! Bagely reporting all the deals are not fully guaranteed in the third year- our flexibility remains in tact, and they should all be moveable- might even get something back for them at the deadline if needed

Once they become a poster boy for the league, it's hard to change the special care treatment they get. The only good thing is that the camerawork is so superior these days, it's easier to expose the superstar treatment some get.

There it is! Takes a solid offseason and improves it.

Hard to say we did well. Its underwhelming to have a FO clearly capable of wheeling and dealing during the draft but cant leverage a league high $50mm plus in cap space for anything more than Fournier and Luca and keeping our own guys.

Now this drama about doing nothing and probably not even a playoff team is total shit however so hopefully folks get over that poop fast.

Knicks were 27-15 after the Rose trade. That's a .643 winning% and translates to a 53 win season. They are bringing the exact same team back except McBride or Luca replaces ELF, Grimes replaces Frank and Fournier replaces Reggie. While it doesnt include a marquee player that does constitute a talent upgrade.

Knicks remain VERY young with several key rotation guys looking to level up:
RJ
Obi
IQ
Mitch

Rose really showed he could be positive in a mentoring role last year as well. Folks were worried Thibs would show favoritism and it was the opposite... Rose was a conduit for the coach and Obi and IQ both talked glowingly about how Rose helped them when he got here. I wanted a veteran floor general. Looks like Rose is the guy. I think he's a 50-60 game a year player so I guess we will get some good long looks at IQ/Luca/McBride at PG

Fournier, Burks and Noel are productive guys on cap friendly deals.

I think we are deep and good so we should win a bunch of games. I mean what if we are basically the same team except next time in the playoffs Jules balls, RJ gets buckets and McBride is the Marcus Smart we all hoped Frank would be.

While this offseason isnt very exciting it does represent patience with a group that had a .643 winning% and they plugged some holes as well. Boring doesnt always mean bad job.
