Knicks · I didn’t see Grimes or McBride enough this offseason (page 1)

BRIGGS @ 10/14/2021 9:30 AM
I know we’re trying to win but wouod the outcomes be much difference if we gave each 12-14 min?
Panos @ 10/14/2021 9:35 AM
I noticed in the box score from last night's game they both played 59 seconds and were -8 +/-. How the F did that happen?

I didn’t think they got it. I may not have paid attention to the last minute. We were up 14-15 I think. But I would’ve liked to see a burn rather than a spot

franco12 @ 10/14/2021 10:09 AM
Hopefully we got one preseason game and they can get some playing time? I am sure Thibs is comfortable with what they can contribute in the regular season should we need them from watching them in practice.

Are you second guessing Thibs or stating your preference?
When in the game did you want them? if early the Pistons lead might have grown. If late we lose the lead.
He appears to use preseason as dress rehearsal and wants his team to FEEL HOLDING A LEAD. To chill in a preseason game is a lost opportunity to correct mentality adjustments. Thats not to say any season won’t have adjustments or the rooks might get run later for a host of reasons. But Thibs prepares as a culture to win ever game all season long. Even the coaches need this to get ready for the real thing. Best to let the cracks come out now. Im sure they have picked up on things now.
Noel did not play alot and Mitch not a minute. They have to work things in. Griimes and McBride have not distinguished themselves enough to crack the lineup yet. That still could happen. Thibs prefers to not have players vying to impress but to fine tune the team to accomplish WINNING. Other teams might have its own agendas and it maybe good for them and their culture to develop in that manner.

foosballnick @ 10/14/2021 10:42 AM
There are only 4 pre-season games. If I'm Thibs my focus is getting the new starters/rotation set and up and running to ensure the team is firing on all engines out of the gate. Satisfying the fans thirst to see end of rotation guys would likely be low on Thibs priority list. He has performance in team practices to work that out.

Maybe not.

But conversely, if they got a little more PT it wouldn't have affected:

1.) The outcomes
2.) The games TV ratings
3.) The 2021-2022 season
4.) Grimes' 2021-2022 season
5.) Grimes' career trajectory
6.) McBride's 2021-2022 season
7.) McBride's career trajectory

Thibs, like all of us, is a creature of habit. These are the same rotation patterns that drove us crazy last year. Thing is, they lead us to a successful season and it's hard to argue with those results. If McBride and Grimes are NBA players, they'll work themselves in like IQ did.

fishmike @ 10/14/2021 11:50 AM
I am all for what I am seeing. A legit 10 man rotation getting tuned up for a long season. They will get their chances if/when guys go down
fishmike @ 10/14/2021 11:52 AM
also they looked great in the summer league.

4 preseason games are for the rotation guys to get in their reps and we play 10 so it looked good to me

TPercy @ 10/14/2021 1:55 PM
Yeah I expect at least one of them to be shipped to G league. Most likely Grimes.

I dont think they will send them down

They could have urged knox and frank to the go down they and the didn't

Well, 2 of those draftees were top 10 picks and because of team roster could have easily been seen as getting playing time, whereas some of those draftees were not top 10 and won't crack the top 10 rotation of players given relatively decent health. Also, front offices are completely different, so the decision making process is also completely different.

So why do you think one situation informs the next?

BRIGGS @ 10/14/2021 11:03 PM
These guys should get 24 min floor burn in last game. Almost every team does this. We’re a deep team but it’s also a slog of a season. Don’t take chances playing Randle and Rose 30 min in a meaningless ball game. Give some floor burn to the rookies. That’s my take.
VDesai @ 10/15/2021 8:14 AM
You saw them all summer league. I think there's a good chance they could play more this final preseason game.
Nalod @ 10/15/2021 9:45 AM
a coach known for his attention to detail is going to sit back and be content with his teams executions to the point of not using a dress rehearsal opportunity so he an get a look at some rooks who are not in the rotation yet?
Maybe so. But Thibs does not care about other teams.
Rose and randle can get hurt at any time. The beginning of a game, or the end. DRose knows his body better then fans do.
Leon and Thibs have had all thee convo’s and I doubt he sends WWW to engage in fisticuffs like what happend with Gar Forman in ChiTown over minutes played.

UNfortunate given the geography and attempts to save travel time Knicks not playing tough teams in preseason and thus its hard to gauge the teams gaudy preseason record.

All I know is when fans start circle jerking over preseason the reality hits with some anger and second guessing as they ride the internet bipolar coaster of emotions. Dudes with 60 game dreams start to get defensive and label for blame game begins.

If Grimes and Deuce (this a kids book tandem?) are to succeed it will happen as cream rises to the top. Thibs has his ways and it makes no sense to hold a player back for the good of the team. McBride has to outplay IQ first and we don’t know how its going in practice. Grimes has a path less clear but Burks stands in front of him. Injury will happen. They will have time.

I've never seen a HC take preseason so seriously. My only complaint and fear is a key player getting hurt in a meaningless game but Thibs is Thibs and I trust him.

You want to take it serious but let’s try to win with all the guys on the roster in the last 1. I’m sure the younger guys trying hard. Give them a full quarter/ quarter abs a half. Fabs want to check them out like new toys😸

Randle broke his leg his first game in rookie season. Gordan Haywood 5 min into a relatively injury free career with his new team in boston snaped his ankle something bad. Antonio McDyses was killing it preseason and got hurt on his other leg. If its gonna happen its gonna happen. Players come in to preseason in shape and if not they sit and get well. Rose got tired last year from over use on what became a team thin at the postion given its seeding. It might happen again. Chronic injured players should be avoided and we only have one. Kemba. He is being managed. Drose has not issues other than age. He had years off and he feels good. He will get banged up during the season. He might even tear something and we’ll assume its from over use. No way to measure.

what's more important, the rookies getting PT or fine tuning your rotation.

We're so used to seeing coaches using the preseason to throw different lines on the wall to see if it sticks, taking the first 10 to 14 games to find chemistry.

I was reading an article this morning where it was stating we started the season 2-9 after that 54 win season..not this time

Different situations. Quickley walked onto a team in desperate need of shooting and an upgrade at the point. Remember the headlines when Quick had that one good preseason game, I think game 3. McBride and Grimes are sitting behind vets who signed extended contracts and a couple of 2nd and 3rd year players who are a apart of our core moving forward. Outside of major injuries, I don't see either of our rookies getting extended minutes anytime soon.
