I’d like to see Grimes play more in the Second unit before promoting him to starter.

He is actually getting minutes and contributing. I think we will be seeing more of him as the season progresses regardless of starting.

Reggie was and is a good player. We wanted him back but from what I recall we asked him to wait and he had a good offer from clips. Now we hear rumblings Thibs is not happy with what our FO gave him this year?
The things that Bullock was good at, and made Jimmy Butler a star was execution. EF does not do this well and if your not moving well off the ball the options shrink and its one of the contributors to why Randle looks bad this season. Not saying its just EF. I believe Kemba had issues there and on defense too. Mitch PNR with him lumbering is also an issue. Crisp picks matter. These are detail that ccontribute to winning.
RJ has been sick a few weeks we read with a bug. It happes. Lets see if he crawls out of his rut.
Noel is tender and if injured chronially, his play too is compromised. It all adds up.
Reading also that EF was a bit sick also.

The NY post had us at 43 wins. If you look at the predictions by most of you were higher. Some 55 games and more. I was a t47 myself and perhaps pulled by the enthusiasm/fandom.

Grimes has to show more to earn more. He is getting some time. Perhaps we’ll see Fournier need a game or two to rest an injury and he’ll get a shot?

Unlike Payton, bullock actually was a decent perimeter defender. Certainly not great, but decent. Shot well from 3 last season tho he had no ability to create his own shot and was just a catch and shoot guy

ramtour420 @ 12/10/2021 10:07 PM
He would probably shoot better too
ToddTT @ 12/10/2021 10:14 PM
Grimes can do whatever he wants with Fournier’s minutes.

He can do the Humpty Hump for 30 minutes and have a better +/-.

Whoever removes Grimes from starting line up Should be fired. We have new Allan houston. Now build team around him. Staple

I would not go that far. I don't know about building around him but he needs to get constant playing time no matter what mistakes he makes. He will never learn if he does not play. I still rather him play with the bench because no one plays good with Randle ISO ball but if he can continue to hit shots he might be our best option to start with Randle. I might not like Randle but we are stuck with him so we have to make the best of the situation. Grimes quick and high shot can help the starters on offense. He will get abused some night vs elites like KD but you have to live with it since we have no better options to start right now.

ToddTT @ 12/12/2021 5:54 PM
Covid protocols gave Grimes a great opportunity today.

I still don’t think he can bump EF from the starting lineup because of all that chedda cheese lining EF’s pockets.

That’s a bit much. He’s a rhythm shooter right now. He can be really good though.

HoustonSprewell84 @ 12/12/2021 6:29 PM
He should prove his consistency off the bench first
Swishfm3 @ 12/12/2021 7:38 PM
A better question is what can he with RJ Barretts minutes?

RJ Barrett still has the "potential" tag attached to him, but we know how inconsistent he is. Now is the time to move him for a player that plays a position of need (Center or PG).

Barrett is going to be a fine NBA player/starter but he will never be an "all-star" or second option that some on this board think he will be.

With all that being said, I don't know who I would trade him for...I would definitely include him in a M. Turner trade. As far as PG...There isn't much out there. Killian Hayes maybe? I think RJ is better so maybe we can get a pick from them as well

I think Grimes is a nice fit alongside Barrett. I honestly see something like Noel, Toppin and picks for Turner. I think Turner is a perfect fit for Thibs, but barrett isn’t worth moving for anything short of a superstar. Toppin for all his strengths, still lacks the shooting and defensive ability of a starting level PF. He’s an energy big off the bench and stuck behind the 100 mil dollar man.

Jimbo5 @ 12/12/2021 8:45 PM
I hope Thibs can change gears and shift his line up to try to replicate the line up/energy/grit of last year's team. As i mentioned before, bench Evan and give his minutes to Grimes. Maybe its also time to promote IQ as the starting PG so the team still has the spark of DRose off the bench. Give McBride the minutes of IQ on the second unit.

Just define a new role for Walker and Evan, just make them situational players if the team is struggling offensively, just insert walker or evan some spot minutes just to spark the offense abit.

The team found good players from the last 3 drafts, its time to let these young guys play and start developing the team's chemistry.

The answer to this thread title?

39 minutes.
27 points.
3 rebounds.
3 assists.
3 steals.
9/17 FG.
7/13 3PT.

Vs. The defending Championship Milwaukee Bucks too.

Likely we can trade Fournier for Bullock- who's putting their money where there mouth is? (re: people who say Fournier was a mistake and we should have just re-signed Bullock)
Philc1 @ 12/13/2021 8:14 AM
Grimes looks like a keeper

Now we just have to find a way to dump Fournier’s contract

Most likely scenario is a salary dump with OKC but it will cost us. At the very least it will cost the next Mavericks pick and possibly Sims

Randle we can actually get picks for.

We need to get under the cap to go after Rubio next summer while also playing the kids. If we play the kids not only do we make the 9th or 10th seed we also get to see them develop

There is zero chance the Knicks get under the cap just to sign Rubio. And Rubio is only a mere bump up from Elf when he plays well and is engaged, the Pelicans version.

The Knicks have Rose, McBride, IQ with Euro stash in the wings. Not to mention Kemba.

I don't know why you keep bringing up Rubio

Do you really think this or just sarcasm?

If I had to put a guess out there, Thibs was behind the Fournier signing via his good buddy Steve Clifford, or at least was in favor of it.

Thibs is a tough coach when it comes to rookies, love it or hate it, right or wrong, just who he is. When IQ proved himself last year, he did not fall from the rotation. Obi in a slightly different situation with Randle before him.

On the other hand, we can also say Thibs coaches to win at all costs, give or take. So why would he hesitate to bench EF if Grimes keeps on producing?

Clean @ 12/13/2021 11:44 AM

Finally something good to talk about with the Knicks. More in the thread.

I'm never sarcastic. /s

Actually it's my default mode.

Kemba was easy to take out of the starting lineup. Cheap contract, defense, size, knees, etc. Plus he's a super nice guy.

Mitch was easy because of his lack of conditioning.

EF is harder to remove from the starting lineup because there's nothing physically wrong with him (that's been made public), and his contract.

Nobody wants to admit a ~$20M per year mistake yet IMO.

That said, if the losing continues, the case gets stronger against EF.

I think the most likely removal of EF happens because of injury, or covid. Or, if the losing continues or worsens. Maybe in January.

I think the more likely scenario (and the best for us) is that EF starts playing better. Luckily for him, he has set the bar pretty low.

SergioNYK @ 12/13/2021 12:03 PM
Fournier has become my most hated player this season. I have no idea what Leon Rose and Perry were thinking. He's the most anti-Thibs type player you can have. And shame on Steve Clifford for selling him to Thibs! He had to have known it wasn't gonna work!

I really hope we trade him asap. I'd even trade him for a 2nd rounder like Orlando did. He's Tim Hardaway Jr.-esque. Doesn't impact winning at all.

And after he's gone, can we never ever sign or draft any French players ever again? Between Weis and Ntilikina and now Fournier, we just don't have any luck with them.
