Knicks · any financial way to offer jalen brunson a max contract in free agency? (page 1)

BRIGGS @ 1/3/2022 1:46 AM
were capped out
other than trading off salary can we do something perhaps sign and trades

We need a PG who is also a leader and in their prime age

we spent so much money on 20 minute players we forgot what wins.

Im also interested in Miami's back up center Omer Yurtseven although hes not a free agent until 2023--but id be interested in trading for him.

He doesn’t get the max most likely but he’s got a relationship with Thibs and Rose and can leverage his way here as a free agent the same way most sought after free agents make their decisions these days. Needing adequate cap space to sign free agents is no longer the end all be all.

YES

I think besides a few teams that will barely be under the cap, the way big free agents will move is via S&T's.

Maybe you can tell us what number you think Brunson will demand/get

"Max player" seems to mean a lot of different things to folks

we all friends here, can you enlighten us as to why you feel this way or point us statistically?
We get he is “uncle Leon”, but there is a price?

Who does he compare to? You thinking VanVleet type money? He that good?

Means Id be willing to pay him the maximum amount he can be afforded.

VanVleet comp isn’t bad but Brunson isn’t as good defensively. VanVleet is a unique player and we should have went all-in for him. Brunson is a tier below, but still a very good player. I see him getting Fournier money to be honest, but maybe more, you never know. Biggest knock is he’s never been a starter.

Never thought I would hear Brunson and MAX contract being said in the same sentence.

Max money goes to Number ONE or TWO options. This kid is benefiting from being a fourth or fifth option on this team.*Second unit)
He shoots 33% from three. 77% from the foul line.
He is six feet tall.(Not 6'1) Which shows when he is defending a stronger offensive PG.

Do not see a MAX statistical history nor the physical attributes of one.

I would hate to see what the Knick fandom would do to this kid after paying him max money and watching perform like a back up PG.

Briggs would you be my agent?

You want Briggs to be GM who calls your agent

Brunson is a solid player. Not a max player and I absolutely would not pay him more than $19-$20 million a year. If he signs here, that would be great. But honestly, I think we just need to try and develop Quickley and McBride who both look like solid PGs with room to grow into competent starters.
