Well, we first need to not trade them for the likes of Lillard. Grimes just looks like he belongs. It's will be interesting watching him develop.
Grimes shoots like Allan Houston and defends like john starks.
RJ is a big strong playmaker who can take over games
I rather make a minor trade to help out the rotation so grimes can get more mins or get additional picks for guys like knox, who I think is a good player but he’s getting buried on the bench. There’s no need to blow up this team to win a chip. We not at that point yet. Gotta see how these young guys develop. I can see growth in RJ and Grimes as we approach the all star break.
Is it me or is there just a huge difference when RJ is hot and takes over a game versus when Julius does it?
Julius still has a ton more gravity but the spacing and ball movement just feel different
Maybe I just missed when both did it last year
Also, can't wait til Grimes also feels his midrange as much as he does the 3pt shot

I think they need to find a balance because there are times Randle looks like he wants to be a glue guy more than a go to guy.
Our big 3 is Fournier/randle/RJ
Unfortunately i still think they need an above avg PG to function better

Thats because RJ is a slasher turned playmaker. A good playmaker is somebody that can beat their own man and force a double team. And when RJ has the ball, he's not stagnant like Randle. Randle is in the post dribbling and looking for cutters. RJ is moving and attacking the rim, while looking for cutters.
Grimes is hard to take off the floor, between his defense and shooting last night vs the spurs his play allowed EF to sit and rest that “bruised thigh?”. I like grimes off the bench for now and over time could see him taking that step into the starting unit maybe when 3 years of EF is up he’ll be ready. No need to rush him, he looks great coming off the bench.
Hope when rose comes back we are able to keep giving him minutes.
For that to happen we are going to have to make a trade burks will go back to that roll when kemba and rose come back.

Where will the minutes come from? He’s shown he can be a rotation player but when we’re at full health he’s on the outside of it. Unless we make a trade?

I noticed IQ hit a few midrange jumpers. It took him a year. Midrange is not part of todays basketball players. You see it in the park, in leagues and even in the NBA. Thats why Derozan is such an anomaly. Him and CP3 are 2 of the few mid range shooters in the league. I think the spurs PG is a mid range shooter, but hes trying to become a 3 pt shooter. The point is mid range jumpers are becoming extinct. Why? Some will say its the Steph Curry affect and there might be some truth to that. But even before Steph, the art of the mid range was something most players don't practice anymore.
So Grimes is just a product of this new wave of basketball. I'm not too worried about that. I believe 3 pt shooters can become mid range shooters fairly easy. It just has to be a priority for him in the off season. For now, his 3 pt game opens the floor for Randle and RJ. When Grimes and EF was on the court at the same time, the spacing and ball movement was great. Add in IQ's energy and we are seeing the future of the knicks.

IQ's floater was inconsistent last year. Love that he has developed the mid range jumper; shows that he's dedicated to the work and improving his game. Players like IQ are the type of players you need to build a winning, hard working culture.
You are right that the mid range game all but extinct but it was a lethal weapon in the playoffs for Booker and Middleton and both finished their season in the finals.

I agree. I don't think the midrange is extinct. Slot pstar scorers in this league(KD, Paul George, Luka etc.) still rely on it. But if you're a guy trying to stick in this league who isn't expected to have a high usage, you're beat bet is to show some consistency from three and defense. It's why a guy like Reggie Bullock will always have value. Grimes is doing what Thibs expects from him. I agree that Grimes would flash it more given the opportunity. I think I also saw him flash some midrange in the Summer League.

No way... Much rather see RJ end up at SG. Its simply where he's got the most impact on both sides of the ball.
Knicks need what literally every team needs. Good management and a little bit (or a lot) of luck. So far the management has been OK. We had max cap space and signed role players. That sucks. Drafts have been very good and so has coaching and culture.
Truth is I think we are very early in "the process" and this roster is going to be very different in a year or so.

The last management group drafted busts. This FO is drafting role players. Sounds like a step in the right direction to me. Baby steps. The goal is to develop a star from these role players and keep drafting until we hit a diamond. This FO doesn’t seem to be big on trades unless it favors us. That means for the most part, it will be quiet come the trade deadline or some minor trades here and there.

Think it is difficult to judge Grimes, Deuce, Obi, IQ and even RJ this early and at their age. 3 to 5 years will be a leading indicator. Imo

Trying to look back at who we could have signed, that wanted to be here, this past off season? DeMar is the only one I can think of but did he not sign early with Bulls?

I hate terms like “it’s a process” and “true rebuild.” That’s when I know not to expect a franchise to even be competitive for 10 years.
