Let’s take a step back from how bad he’s been. A trade is still highly unlikely unless there’s some Randle for John Collins shakeup or something. But extremely unlikely.
I don’t think it’s a stretch to say Randle isn’t the playmaking forward we need. But he’s still an excellent finisher and rebounder. Barrett has done enough to earn some additional playmaking duties. And obviously we need to make a PG move to improve play making from that position. Knicks should transition Randle to a pick and roll and pick and pop finisher. His assists will go down but he will get his 20 ppg far more efficiently. Make a new PG and Barrett the initiators, and Randle the finisher. It should speed up the offense too. What worked last year isn’t working this year. I know I am one of those rare fans/posters who doesn’t really believe in brash decisions, but there are other things you can do before saying blow it up.
After games like tonight, I just want Randle gone. I appreciate what he did last season but I just want him gone. He's getting almost impossible to root for. I really dislike his game this season.
I agree. I’m not sure Thibs would make that adjustment midseason.
I feel bad for Julius Randle.
He's a PF with no PG and even worse his Front Office has forced him to play basketball with two atrocious players in Evan Fournier (loser should go back to Orlando) and midget on bad knees Kemba Walker; both who've ruined his Knicks team of last year.
How would Karl Malone looked as a PF with no John Stockton @ PG but instead Alec Burks @ PG? 🤣ðŸ¤ðŸ¤£

Get used to it. He’s only under contract for another 4 seasons
I really think thibs is giving his vets and the FO some data and justification for shaking things up. So when he shakes up the starting lineup, nobody would be surprised.

Randle is no Karl Malone. He's not even Jenna Malone this season.

Goes back to martins question on how will the team feel to see a rookie jump up the depth chart. Thibs will say go watch some film. We have plenty of bad basketball to see why I’m starting deuce.

Agreed. The changes to the roster played a part. That being said, it’s time to use Randle differently and try to create easy baskets instead of make him work for everything on his own. Go get a real PG before it’s too late.
I'd like his role to be on another team

How do you know? You never watched Karl Malone play PF while surrounded by Alec Burks, Kemba Walker and Evan Fournier type of crap, now did you?

Nope….but Malone is one of the most mentally and physically toughest players in the nba.

Karl Malone took open jumpers, and didn’t play iso ball.
Randles main issue is his outside shooting has fallen off a cliff compared to last year. He doesn’t even take open shots when they are set up for him. I don’t know what he works on in practice but it definitely isn’t spot up shooting.

It’s like saying Barkley would look like trash on the Knicks. Nope Barkley would dominate. Any great PF would dominate regardless who’s the PG. stat dominated with Raymond Felton. It’s all about fit not just talent. Utah system and coach was solid. He would find a way. The problem is bigger than Burks running point. For example I think MDA can turn IQ into a great player. Fits his system. I honestly don’t know a system that works for Randle right now. Maybe the spurs
Speaking of Utah….they playing phoenix tough. Was down big now it’s a game.
2022-23 starting lineup:
C Turner PF Randle SF Barrett SG Grimes PG Brunson
This would assume something like;
Toppin, Kemba and Dallas 2023 first for Brunson (as a sign and trade this summer) or add Bullock or Powell to the deal as a deadline deal to work cap wise
Turner to the Knicks during the draft for Burks, Noel and the 2022 pick which will likely be 10-15 range.
Bench will consist of Rose, IQ, Fournier, Reddish etc
Starting 5 of Turner, Randle, Barrett, Grimes and Brunson will allow Randle an open lane as a finisher. Brunson and Barrett as initiators and Grimes as a 3&D menace. Turner will anchor the D and provide inside out scoring. Randle will be the oldest starter. The team will get faster on offense and far better defensively. Bench will come in guns blazing.
I will continue to advocate for Brunson and Turner as pieces that fit from a basketball perspective and an age perspective. And Grimes looks like a guy who can be infectious when he’s on the floor and help set the tone as a starter eventually. Fourniers role can be a spark plug scorer who can see increased minutes when he’s hot.

Mavs aren't dealing Brunson especially at the deadline. They have been great with him in the starting lineup. They can easily make the 2nd round of the playoffs.
I think it is now clear to everyone that this team cannot function at a high level without Rose. He is the former superstar that is built to handle the pressure and provide stability to the offense. Randle clearly is in over his head when it comes to being the best player on a team. He seems easily frustrated, unfocused, and is playing with only average energy. In short, he seems to be just going through the motions. Just like last year, it will take Rose and his energy to get the team going again. Hopefully that can happen soon, and the Knicks have got to find a young starting caliber PG to lead this team and take pressure off of Randle.

Maybe not but it’s time to use their connections and convince him to come home to the Knicks. He’s a free agent and can control his own future. He’s the real deal and would be perfect at PG, along with a healthy drose backing him up.
It may be time to have the front office be accountable. We seem to attach the worse players available. The key attribute is none of them can shoot!
