Why waste time and number 1 pick if team hierarchy is not on same page. I’ve never heard of trading a one for a player who isn’t going to be used. Only thing I can counter Tgis with is we are trading another player and reddish may be re traded
We need to play Reddish but at the same time I am concerned about Reddish’s defense. I will give Thibbs the benefit of the doubt and assume that he telling Reddish he has to earn his minutes in practice. They still have one more year with Reddish, so while there is some urgency, they don’t have to play him immediately. Once it becomes clear we are not getting the 10th spot, then the team should sit Randle and the other Vets and let the kids play.
I’m not reacting until after Feb 10th. He did say unless trade or injury. Also, that it’s a long season. While that may be true, there’s only 32 games left. The trade deadline is going to be the point of no return for this year. Fingers crossed we make another trade. It’s the only way this gets fixed
Knox was gone after this year. Cam is under contract for another 2 years. we did this to buy time and to keep an asset. Also, Cam is RJs buddy.
This wasn't for now, for this year- it was a long term play.
Why does everyone give Thibs the benefit of the doubt. I don’t get it what has Thibs done that merits a benefit of the doubt. Thibs is a mediocre coach has always been this guy can’t be great without Rose. It’s as if Rose and Thibs are joined at the hip. Go back and see what Thjbs has accomplished without Rose and tell me how he has faired. Thibs has won 229 games and lost 207 games without Rose. With Rose his winning percentage sky rockets. You would think Tjibs would understand this and start looking for another player to latch on to as Rose is probably not going to be around but for a few years.
Thibs has not been good. He is stubborn and it’s cost him big time. He should think about moving away from Kemba and Rose. Start Duece and think about moving away from Fournier. The perimeter defense is suffering big time mostly because of Kemba who is an liability. Any pg with severe knee issues is going to struggle mightily on the defensive side. Adding Cam at SF and moving RJ to SG would help the defense. Deuce is a good defensive player as well. But hey Thibs is going to do what he wants.

Yep. We don’t know what kind of chess is being played until after the deadline.
Or checkers.

Coaches win team loyalty when they demand effort in practice. Cam has to earn his spot, simple enough.
Thibs won coach of the year last year, which is why he gets the benefit of the doubt. Thibs needs defenders, and Kemba and Fournier are not defenders. Thibs, like all good coaches (sense a theme here?) need excellent point guards to win. That's why we should have gone after Lowry this year, or CP3 last year.

Or Drose………….
Or Kemba.
Lowrey and CP3 still carry big price tags. Miami and suns have the talent to contend. We don’t.

What is this "long term" of which you speak? We no understand.

Rose has been on most of Thib's teams so it's an odd statement to make that Thibs can't win without Rose. And it's an even fatter and bolder statement to say that Thibs is so bad a coach without Rose that he is - wait for it - OVER .500 without Rose on the team? He is so bad without Rose that his teams are WINNING?
Thibs took a young Minny team to their first playoffs in like 14 years. Rose was on that team for a hot minute of about 10 regular season games. Previous to Tom arriving in Minny they were perennial bottom 10 team.
Thibs took some CHI teams with Rose on them where Rose missed most all of the season to the playoffs. That's right, the Chicago teams lost their best player, MVP, and focal point of everything and Thibs still made the playoffs.
It's an odd statement to make that a coach who has won 2 Coach of the Year awards as a not very good coach, especially when it was last won was the previous years.
Thibs is not the GM of the Knicks and can't just latch on to another player. The organization has to draft or trade for a player and then develop them. That doesn't happen over night.
Know your coach.

You should have just waiting until after the trade deadline and if nothing changes then you can ask this question.

Can anybody guess…….take a wild guess………who’s nba comparison is lowery? And he plays defense on the perimeter. And the coach loved him so much that he hand picked and approved the selection? So I’m curious how will thibs adjust his rotation if some of these vets are traded. If thibs defense, and the FO knows thibs prefer defense or 2 way players. Front office also knows that thibs plays Randle and RJ heavy. Why on earth would they add 2 non def defenders. And why thibs can’t find time for a SF defender we traded for and aPG defender we drafted.
This tells me is fans only know half the story or what they want us to know. Feb 10th will tell us a lot.

Yep, got to wait to at least after the deadline. My guess is they have something in the works and are just waiting for contracts to become tradeable

This is nonsense. Teams trade for all kinds of players - the last to arrive don't just replace starters because "here I am!"
The Knicks are attempting to play their way into the playoffs whether you like it or not. They are not in the business of establishing the team as a developmental 'G' league candidate.
You are expecting immediate gratification from a long term prospect who has not worked his way into even the second unit yet.
Thibs is 'right' in this regard although that's giving him credit for something quite obvious.
But, to be clear, the frustration with the first unit is real and its understandable that fans are looking for immediate gratification and relief from that simmering dumpster fire.
Reddish is simply not all that *yet*.

Ok name me the last player traded for a one that did not play consistently after trade not including salary dumps
Thibs won’t disrupt rotation? Isn’t that what u do when u need change? Gotta be another trade a comin

Whoa! Back that truck up a bit. I didn't sign up for a "name the" game show.
It doesn't matter if this is the first trade of all time in which a player waits his turn to play.
Personally, I'm not at all sold that Reddish deserves any minutes. He's an intriguing prospect who couldn't make a keeper impression in ATL.
Thibs is the wrong coach for a development team. Last year, the Knicks were in an early post-development stage. They won as a 15 man unit in a short season with no fans to disrupt them. It was strictly co-incidental to Thibs as a coach - he won a low-prize lottery ticket.
this season Thibs is trying to establish a 9 man rotation, nothing more highfalutin than that and he's overwhelmed by the similarity of player types, none of whom distinguish themselves beyond minor details.
Yes, he needs change but that change isn't available on this roster.
Without another trade, there is no 'up' this season.
Ha this reminds me of when we traded Oakley for Camby and JVG refused to play him many minutes at first, except in this case the trade deadline is only a week and a bit away and people no longer have the patience to wait that short length of time before having a meltdown
https://www.washingtonpost.com/archive/s...
It is frustrating to see talent wasting on the bench while we still continue to lose.
The other side of the coin is the team does not want to sit anyone and ruin their perceived value before the deadline.
For example, bench Burkes and you will get considerable less for him in return if traded in the next 10 days.

That’s a great article. Hopefully if we make some moves Thibs will start coaching again.
My opinion on this topic is it makes no sense to complain until the trade deadline. Even if they want to play him they are a little constrained by when they can trade players. On the topic of him earing a spot in the rotation. To earn a spot in the rotation you have to get non garbage minute time. With Thibs that is probably not going to happen.
Look at Grimes. He is the perfect Thibs player. If not for Covid chances are he would still be out of the rotation. He looked OK at best in his garbage time minutes because he is coming in cold for 1 or 2 minutes. You also need time enough to make mistakes so you learn from them. Those player in Cam's position will get pulled the instant they makes a mistake if he was lucky enough to get a minute or two of garbage time.
