The Knicks Cliques
“The key to being a good manager is keeping the people who hate me
away from those who are still undecided.”
-Casey Stengel

Anyone who knows the pro game understands that NBA players spend more time together in recovery and traveling to the next arena, than they do under the bright lights of Madison Square Garden. The Knicks locker room probably feels more like a house divided than a fraternity house and that is a shame.

Meet The Cliques

Da Yutes
Robinson, Barrett, Quickley, Grimes, Toppin, Noel, Simms, Reddish, McBride - 9 men, all 23 years old or younger. Da Yutes sit together on flights and have formed a bond of common goals. They listen to Doja Cat and Lil Durk and are learning how to navigate the city. They are optimistic and working for more playing time. They have rehearsed the talking points and are also known as the undercover brothers.

The Commuters:
27-30 years old. Noel, Burks, Fournier, Randle. The Commuters are a mixed bag. Noel wants to hang with Da Yutes but he is under the wing of his mentor, Gibson. Burks and Fournier listen to Neo Soul. Randle uses a car service. When he leaves the arena early, he does not need to be bothered waiting on the team airport shuttle.

The Old Heads
The over-30 crew - Taj Gibson, Derrick Rose and Kemba Walker. Kemba and Rose get along because they spend a lot of time together in rehab. Taj prefers listening to Tribe Called Quest and Jay-Z. D Rose prefers John Coltrane. Kemba just got here and is happy to be back home but don’t let the smile fool you. It’s a disguise.

Here’s where it gets complicated. Coach Thibs needs a majority of The Old Heads and Commuters to support him when he is not around, but Fournier and Burks KNOW that Randle is receiving preferential treatment. The Old Heads, Rose and Gibson, are loyal to Thibs, but hear Toppin and Grimes whispering after they are pulled too early after playing well. Nobody DARES to call a team meeting.

Kemba knows winning is the best deodorant.

BLAME GAME

Leon

Last off season he made 2 solid Acquisitions in Burks and Noel, and a solid mid season trade for ROSE, all 3 were major factors in the knicks success.
This off season his 2 acquisitions Kemba & Founier have been more bad than good, and his mid season trade for Cam has done nothing to help.

THIBS-

Last season he had the team prepared (from a defensive standpoint ) for any team in the NBA, even if we had key guys out somebody stepped up, this yr it's almost the opposite, the acquisition of 2 offensive players for a defensive coach has completely back fired.
He has no idea how, when or where to use Fournier, Randle and Kemba combo.

Randle, Burks, IQ, Noel, ROSE

These 5 dudes where everything for us last yr, They played the most 4th qtr minutes, all of them were very clutch and the chemistry was love

This yr has been mostly bad, we harp on randle a lot, but burk is having a horrible season, IQ is shooting worse than last season, ROSE AND NOEL are no shows.

More importantly NOBODY WAS ON THE TRADING BLOCK, most players don't play hard when their status and role is up in the air.

So IMO there is a lot of blame to go around

misterearl @ 1/31/2022 9:34 AM
Blame?

This is NOT about blame.

This is an (cough) informed critique of the people in locker room and how they relate. What are your thoughts on what happens behind closed doors?

The cool kids - Randle, Thibs

The nerds - RJ, Grimes, IQ, Mitch

The drama club - Walker, Fournier

The outcasts - McBride, Knox, Frank, Reddish

your brackets need serious thought:

Cool - Grimes (the perfect form on his jumper), Simms (best hair), Quickley (the energy), McBride (handles the train ride to Westchester County Center with ease)

Drama Club - Randle

Outcasts - Luka Semanic

I wonder if not having Bulloch and Pinson has anything to do with Randle's decline. Both of those guys seem to be cool with Randle. Lately it just seems like Randle hates everyone and wants to be left alone.

When is the last time a Knicks player talked about the camaraderie of sharing a meal as a team?

I do think there's something to having too many 'demographics' on the roster. I think the roster would probably be best served by being 60-80 percent yoot, and then having a few guys that are there to set the example in practice, film session etc. Veterans are here for the present and our present seems about as bright as Randle's FG%

Seems like the clubhouse is missing a person...I mean Pinson. What I haven't heard this year are the complaints that the guys are spending too much time in the gym.

Randle was playing for a contract last year and the Garden is full of fans this year

I blame Randle play on the FO not signing Pinson. He was defintely missed on the signline and somehow kept the Bing Bongers in check. Oh wait, there were no fans. Nevermind. I still miss Pinson and believe he would've contributed to a few additional wins, compared to where we are now.

I'll say it again. I miss the plane to the gym stories. Now we just get to read about Grimes by himself taking practice seriously. What the hell is everyone else doing?
