Knicks · Quickley not in slump. He’s not very good (page 3)

2019 IQ was averaging 5ppg as a freshman defensive bench player for KY 2020 IQ was SEC player of the year as a sophmore averaging 16ppg and shooting 43% from 3 2021 IQ was an NBA rookie 2022 IQ is learning to play PG in the NBA
He's 22. The more I look at this kid and his work ethic and game and his approach I 100% believe we have a player here. Maybe he's never a "true PG" like a Bobby Jackson or Jamal Crawford but those guys had pretty damn good careers algo. Lou Williams also comes to mind (obviously those are upside projections)

BUMP!

I’m glad I didn’t have any comments in here that were totally embarrassing.
I think IQ might be the best player we have, better than Barrett, if he can develop his 3pt shot.
He is able to basically get anywhere on the court with the dribble. That is a rare ability.
His energy, pace, is also elite on both sides of the ball.

I’m more than thrilled to be wrong. I’m a Knicks fan. I always want us ( every last player on the team) to do well. Iq was a conduit to us losing in many games. The season was going south. I even said I live iq but not the way he’s playing. If he can sustain the way he’s playing now it’s great for everyone. IQs name is really one of the reasons he’s now succeeding— he’s a very very smart basketball player. He understands the nuances of the game at a high level. The iq that I talked about here was just completely off for more than a dozen games— most of which blew the season. But he’s changed it around and we may need to think about his possible role as lead guard for the team

IQ emerging as a very good two way player. Should be even better next year as a full time SG

He was not very good in stretches. He got comfortable and his playmakin/awareness engrained to be instinctive. This occured thru the season, not latent or denied by Thibs and bryant. It was honed and improved. Deuce is a rookie who only had one really good college year and is just more inexperienced but holds great physical ability.
Thibs told the world before the season everyone should and would get an opportunity.

What you saw BRIGGS was IQ in training. IQ had to learn the PG position after the draft and while playing for the Knicks. That changed his mental approach to the game which decreased his value and hurt our wins and loses this year. But as you can see the vets didn’t do much better.
And those stretch of bad games actually helped IQ. Without it not sure how he would be playing right now. Glad you owned up to your mistake on IQ. The lesson learned is these guys are humans not robots. They go on up and down runs especially IQ who’s playing out of position from college. RJ to me is playing the same position he played in college which makes his transition easier. IQ was purely a scorer in college so playing pg with ball hungry half court players like Randle is an adjustment.
IQ looks more comfortable with Obi type bigs and sims. With Randle you just dribble up, hand him the ball and run to the corner. Without Randle the team plays a more traditional game that fits IQ and Obi style. Even RJ as well. Randle might be that substraction by addition move. He might be the key to unlocking most of the yoots potential especially RJ, IQ and Obi. Even Mitch pulled out some moves in the post without Randle. Mitch looked like he did when I saw him play in texas b4 the draft. Randle gotta go. Thumbs down to the fans was the start, we never forgot that. I don’t think his style fits this teams youth development anyway. Randle is young in age but old style and approach to the game.

Yep….or simply a full time starter as a combo guard. The words SG and PG are becoming extinct. These guys are combo guards. Depending on the defense they can go into playmaker mode or scoring mode.
I started watching other team players this year playing fantasy basketball for the first time in years. What I realized is top young PGs like garland and FVV (who I drafted) are really combo guards. They get everybody involved early. And in crunch time they take over. IQ has this same ability.
What I see wrong with saying he’s just a SG is on the defensive end. He has problems with guarding certain SGs in the nba. Has problems with certain PGs as well. You can see the difference between deuce and IQs defense. Deuce is the same height but stronger lower body player so he can guard SGs better than IQ, especially in the mid post. I hope that’s something that improves with time and age for IQ. That lower body strength to guard SGs or pick and roll defense is important. But his 3pt game and offensive attack covers up any issues that’s lacking on defense. Just something I noticed about IQ from day one. He gets pushed around easy. He has to learn from trey young, garland and FVV type guards. They all small and similar in size.
Nalod@ 3/26/2022 10:11 AM
Really Randle “down hill” is his best look. He can pull up for the three and also blow by his defender. The “chemistry” thing I harp about is getting the team better positioned. Randle has talents and a reasonable pay scale. With RJ in a more prominent role and Evan more comfortable perhaps next season will be improved. Drose as trade fodder is not outrageous as he could be very valuable to a contending team. This opens up minutes for IQ and others. Im not ready to hand anyone the keys and perhaps the path is Brunson with IQ off the bench. IQ as trade fodder (more valuable) or even Brunson if IQ shines bright. At some point with picks and our depth of yoot a trade will occur to consolidate. Our yoot improving is only a good thing no matter how you look at it or how it came about. The kids and the coaches put in the work and got an opprtunity on a knick team. This is all new to us!

Quickley is a different player when his shot is falling. I am still not sure if he can be our starting of, but he certainly has shown that he can run the second unit. I also like McBride as a potential of prospect.
Nalod@ 3/28/2022 12:28 PM
Burkes clutch in Motown. His versatility helps team today, and his trade value tomorrow! Able to play three position is a good thing. Perhaps we trade Drose to Miami or other contender off season if we get a good return. Love the guy, just not sure the timeline works anymore. IQ off the bench at this level opens up options. Showing Deuce how its done does not hurt!

Have mentioned this comparison several times. But I now think IQ can actually be more than that. We have been looking for a young PG that can shoot the 3pt shot, penetrate at a high level, create his own shot, set others up for easy baskets and is a good defender. IMO, IQ may be what we have been looking for. Add the fact that the kid is one of the best FT shooter in the league (Pretty important for a guard), has a nice float game (extremely advanced for PG) and already has a chemistry with our core and one can see why he may be the best option for us. If I have a choice between IQ and Brunson (will probably cost $20M per, unknown how he gels with current roster and not as good defensively) I would go for IQ.

Iq has made some great strides, especially driving and kicking. That dime to Burkes in the corner was a beauty.
I am very impressed how far he has come. I was very down on him midseason. He has shut me up.

And he even manages to say happy birthday to his grandma in the post game!

I don't think anyone has brought up this point - but he constantly talks about watching film - that he can do that and have it translate to how he plays is rare.

Love the Quickley development but he needs to play the 2 next year and maybe occasionally bring the ball up. Enough with converting him to pg
