“We fully support Kemba’s decision to shut it down for the remainder of the season and to use this time to prepare for next season,” Knicks president Leon Rose said in a statement. “His long-term success on the court remains our priority.”

Thoughts? Dude put up 44 and sitting is going to do what, exactly?

Does Kemba not like Thibs? Thibs not like Kemba?

JesseDark @ 2/23/2022 5:30 PM
His knees aren't allowing him to put up consistent numbers let alone 44 pts. This should allow for Rose to fill his minutes or see what Duce can do.
NYKMentality @ 2/23/2022 5:41 PM
Sitting Kemba isn't a tank. It's an upgrade..
Uptown @ 2/23/2022 5:44 PM
Just in time for Rose to scoop up those minutes...
SergioNYK @ 2/23/2022 5:49 PM
If you want to tank, you hope Kemba plays, not the other way around.

But it sucks it didn't work out with Kemba. He's home grown and he's a good guy. It was always a risk with his health and it just didn't work out. But we should have known the minute Presti cut him.

Hopefully this means more minutes for IQ and Deuce and not more for Burks.

Knixkik @ 2/23/2022 6:15 PM
It’s not tanking. Thibs wasn’t going to play him coming out of the break. This alleviates the pressure to play him. They are clearly a better team without him.

I.e. the buyout talks got nowhere.

Happier with this than a buyout, we at least get his expiring contract next season now. This seems to indicate the team accepts it's not going to be fighting for a playoff push - otherwise you keep your options open.

Hope this can lead to some minutes for Deuce, but in all likely hood it just means Grimes keeps his minutes when Rose is back.

MaTT4281 @ 2/23/2022 7:12 PM

After the initial facepalm, might as well. The second unit has played SIGNIFICANTLY better with Rose in the lineup. Use the 2nd half of the season to get Quickley right.

Philc1 @ 2/23/2022 7:17 PM
Is Deuce ever going to play again?
TheGame @ 2/23/2022 7:37 PM
They need to sit Rose for two more weeks and give McBride 20 minutes a game for about 5 games. If McBride looks decent, then they should come up with an excuse to sit Rose the rest of the season and boost McBride’s minutes to 25 mins a game and see what he can do. If he looks like a starting PG, it takes pressure off the FO to sign a pg this summer and they can focus on other areas.
Kemet @ 2/23/2022 7:46 PM
LMAO .. Alec Burks as the Knicks starter PG .. LMAO

+1
And everyone on here to suddenly miss Kemba's defense and vet savvy. The new Elf.

Maybe we could let Thibs sit out the rest of the season, get ready for next year!

Does anyone have an idea about what numbers Thibs might be talking about? Lottery %?

But Kemba’s numbers aren’t horrible. He’s shooting the ball decently. Sure, his defense isn’t great- but for an older player on his last legs, he has given us, I’d argue, decent value for his contract.

What was the point in drafting deuce or Obi. Seems like wasted picks.

James Dolan, via Leon Rose of course, just saved OKC about 20 million in cash.

Walker would not have agreed to that buyout on those terms unless the 2 year/18 million dollar deal with the Knicks was sitting there waiting for him. Odds are the Thunder would have still bought him out anyway. Thus the Knicks could have had Walker at the veteran's minimum instead. Obviously he could have ring chased with a contender but the Knicks were offering the starting PG job.

The cap hit for OKC is still listed by the actual contract, but the cash hit was a massive savings of said 20 million.

Was anyone else in the NBA going to give Walker 2/18? I doubt it. If he had any value, Presti would have held onto him. And Presti has traded some pretty ugly contracts to boot. That should have been the first massive red flag.

Walker at the DVE vets minimum is a great add. But another middle class contract for a guy who doesn't fit this team is just disturbing on multiple levels.

Sometimes I have to wonder what is going through Dolan's head ( if anything is in there at all). Just hire a guy like Rich Cho or a Troy Weaver or hire a guy like Brock Aller to be GM directly and get out of their way. Every major sport is shifting to young progressive forward thinking personnel chiefs who are well versed in modern analytics.

Uptown you should've been a comedian dude. That 4real just made me laugh. You're good with the punchlines man 😆

Yeah, the tank is back. Right. Look, if RJ returns not 100% healed that's not how you tank. That's how you set the franchise back as RJ is still our best young prospect last time I checked. Our future. This $hit is depressing.
