Brunson is not the Star PG that everyone seems to think he is, and plays very pedestrian and is not the primary ball handler for the Mavs - Luca Doncic is.
He will not elevate the Knicks - we should have grabbed CP3 or Lowry when we had the chance.
We can’t sign him anyway. Sucks but we will have to look elsewhere. I’m sure Dallas wants to re-sign him anyway. He’s still a really good player even if he isn’t a star.

He’s asking for Star money, if the rumors are true.
I don't know. His numbers are definitely good, better than anyone on our current roster pretending to be a PG.
He'll be 26 next season - and if you are signing him to a max'ish type deal of 4 or 5 years - his contract will be over when he is 30/31.
The key question is will he produce similar numbers with Thibs? Jason Kidd has a very different approach to the offensive game.
If you told me we were getting MDA back, it would be a great move, his numbers would explode.
With our current offense front loaded to focus on enabling Julius Randle to bully ball his way in, create turnovers, I'd say it would be money wasted.
Brunson is more talented than Ward and Childs. Luka is a top 5 talent and would be the primary ball handler on most teams. Brunson is the clear number 2 guy on a really good team...and I have no doubt that he can run the show on a legit playoff team....

Look at it differently. The Knicks offense is front loaded to focus on enabling (and facilitating through) Julius and RJ BECAUSE they don't have someone like Brunson to run the show. I'd hope that both of their Usage rates would go down with a PG of capability.
I have not read what his is projected or what he is asking.
What are we talking about? Fans or blogs making up shit, we read it and turn it into “reports”?
Can anyone source the info or we thats just what we do now, make shit up?
As for his value? He can ask for Van Vleet type money. What is real? Does dallas have the money for him, and do they want to pay him that if he is not starting? Is he a great fit to play next to Luka? Of they pay him what are then not able to do with that money?
As for us, what can he do that will accentuate the talents of those around him and is it not just a good fit, but a great fit? Like the kind that can free up Randle to hit his potential but with greater efficiency? Same for RJ?
If so I pay him $25mil!! But im really in the know.
Ward was very limited in his offense and creating his own shot. Childs got fat and was never the player he was for the nets we signed him to be.

Did you watch Ward and Child's play? Brunson is a superior offensive player and it's not close. A guy who can score in the paint while remaining a threat from outside would do wonders.

I agree Brunson is not that Star PG we're dying to have but he's better then both Ward and Childs. Brunson is averaging 18 ppg as a starter on 50/40/83 - neither Ward or Childs could ever put up that type of production. He's also averaging 6 apg as a starter which is crazy considering how much Luka handles the ball and runs their offense. I put Brunson in that D'Angelo Russell level.

Ward couldn't score 16 points in an empty gym.
martin - is there any possible way to indicate click bait thread titles?

Well apparently anything created by Caseloads or Briggs for starters.

Get that damned intern working again!

thank god... I saw the title and thought for phucks sakes another "we need the midget" thread. He's a nice player to draft late in the first round and should be a career backup PG. The high ceiling player you would compare Brunson to is FVV, and FVV is actually a very good defender, much like Ward was. Brunson is not. He gets abused on defense.

I think Brunson is solid but for me the question is will Randle defer his ball dominant style or make Brunson a spot up shooter (like the others)? I know it's on Thibs to sort this out - but we've speculated that Randle would need an established PG vet to take the ball out of his hands... so for me it's more about if Randle will respect Brunson enough or still think he's the man and needs the ball 80% of the time?

We don’t need a star. Just a competent starting pg. if we had a competent pg we’d be one or two games below .500 fighting for a playoff spot instead of another lost season where we can’t even have the consolation of a top draft pick because we won too many games

Ward was Elfrid Payton before Elfrid Payton. Mediocre trash. Childs had one good year with the nets playing for a contract and had moments here and there for us but was always mostly a disappointment

Disagree in Charlie. Charlie was trash early on, but developed into a solid NBA backup PG. Problem was that the only other option was Childs, so Ward had to start. You're right on Chris tho. Childs had a decent run with the Nets and suckered the Knicks into a deal.

He’s not a star but he’s the #2 on a good team so not an accurate comparison to Ward/childs.

Exactly right. Barrett and Randle would really benefit from him.

That is inaccurate.
Ward wasn't the best but he was serviceable and played his role well.
