Knicks · Javelle magee can replace Mitch on the cheap (page 1)

BRIGGS @ 3/23/2022 1:19 AM
He’s been fantastic all season. He’s going to be 1/2-1/3 of the price for less years. We don’t need to marry Mitch.
We have two picks in the draft to find another center prospect for depth. I’m going to assume Sims will stay as third center.
smackeddog @ 3/23/2022 3:25 AM
So if he's going to get a cheap contract, why would he sign here rather than a playoff contender or better team? Or one with a PG that will make him look good?

He will go to a contender. Why would he leave the Suns?

Doubt he would consider the Knicks at 34 yo. Doubt Knicks would consider him and still have Taj and Noel and Sims.

This guy has been on my radar a bit. UFA, 23 yo.

Wait, why aren’t we resigning our best draft pick in God knows how many years?

Anything at this point would be pure speculation, my guess is he has unrealistic contract demands. We will have the answer when he signs a new one.

The problem is that we did not trade Mitch. Mitch easily was worth a first round pick. To lose him without getting anything would be a huge missed opportunity. They did not trade Mitch because they intend to resign him, and a 34 year old McGee is not the equivalent of Mitch.

sign him, then trade him!

MaTT4281 @ 3/23/2022 4:30 PM
The purpose in resigning Mitch is because you see him as a long-term piece, not to stay afloat for the 2022-23 season. Not seeing the appeal in a 10-year older McGee "for less years".

If you don't want to marry Mitch, then you have Noel under contract, rehabbing for next year.

But I'm rooting to keep the home grown C. The one that doesn't need a ton of touches to put points on the board and has terrific chemistry with our newly designated top gun.

Leon, put a ring on it.

Javelle Magee plays excellent winning NBA ball when having outstanding (HOF) play-maker PG leading the team .. Curry & Chris Paul.
The Knicks been having problems getting a decent starter PG, matter of fact in the past 2 decades the Knicks only had 2 NBA starter PG (Kidd & Billups) on their roster.

I believe the Suns or GSW would've traded MaGee or Wiseman for MitchRob's double-double performance in Feb.
But truth be said, most winning NBA teams that would send a decent role player to the mismanagement Knicks team would mean the team or organization HATED that player.

Great question?
When u look at it from performance wise MitchRob's demands should be met .. to cover up all the mistake contracts in the Knicks organization from player/coach/management.

What the fuck we been talking about for months?
Mitch breaks his foot in non contact event, misses 2/3 last seasona and can’t run all off season and we are. Going to lambast the team for not resigning him when we don’t have his xrays or his salary demands? He holding out for off season and 5 years from us at xx$$? Will Detroit have the funds to do him good in 4 years or get a sign and trade to get him 5? Will that even be offered.
And………is this contract year the real dude you sign or a dude motivated to cash it in vs 3 years of seeing his work ethic up close that the team has?

As for Magee, All things equal he goes to a winner in a city he wants. Or he gets paid enough to warrant a different take. Maybe a two year deal is enough? I don’t know the dude or what he wants.

I don’t know how we come out of it but while it sucks to lose a player for nothing in return it happens all the time to other teams snd since we don’t know the plan why blast the team until its done?

That Mitch came on and got in shape and not occured an injury in this his contract year is fortuitous for him, but I get why knicks been cautious thus far.

Phil, you really don’t get any of this?
