What if it happens, everything falls in place and the knicks end up getting Donovan Mitchell. For what? Knicks will send out Randle, Cam, the rights for Rokas and 2 1st round protected picks. The knicks will have a starting line up of:
Center
Obi
RJ
Mitchell
IQ
Chemistry has been the downfall of this year's knicks. Last season the FO brought in Fournier and Kemba to join the starting line up. That experiment ended poorly. Everyone is talking about the need to bring a superstar to the knicks. How will Donovan Mitchell jell with a young core of a potential homegrown Big3(RJ, Obi,IQ)? Will Mitchell be a good fit? Can this team crack the playoffs next season? What if instead of Mitchell the knicks get Ingram? Can he fit with the team?

Everybody here (aside from Gradyandrew :) would trade Randle and others for Donovan Mitchell in a heartbeat. Problem is that most feel the Jazz will instead ask for RJ or IQ, Toppin, Cam and 2 to 3 1st round picks. As much as I value Mitchell - I would not deal him in either of the scenarios gutting our young players and picks.
2 #1 picks + Randle and some combination of Burks, Rose, Kemba and either IQ or Toppin would be my limit. No point in trading RJ and losing additional young players and picks as RJ is still too young to conclude he can't be an All Star player. Mitchell is terrific but not a game changer/transformative type of player IMO.
Think the better path is trying to use some picks/young player to move up in this draft. If it's possible to move into top 3-4 and land Ivey - the difference in the cost would be significant.
Donovan Mitchell - would cost at least 2 (maybe 3) #1 picks + IQ and Toppin or RJ
Ivey - could cost as little as Randle, this years pick/swap and future protected pick (Dall) or young player (eg IQ)
Future will tell if Ivey can be as good as Mitchell but I'd rather save some of young talent and take some risk vs gutting most of youth/picks and leaving us with less options going forward.
The Lakers just had lebron a Davis abs Westbrook on one team that finished 17 games under

what?! LOL.
First it was Fishmike claiming that RJ is BETTER than Ja Morant and now this. The members here are one of a kind
by the way....I wouldn't trade for Mitchell because the ask would be too high and will probably leave the Knicks in the same position. This boat sailed two years ago when Mitchell signed his extension.
I do not want to give up CAM in trade without seeing what he can do. I know a lot of people here are low on him but I think he can at least be as good as Brandon Ingram who is an all-star level talent.

Randle and something else ( contract dumps) and filler for Gobert plus picks and filler. Gobert is a grossly overpaid contract. However it would give Thibs the defensive anchor he wants and it removes a toxic element like Randle off the roster. Also it would allow the Knicks to dump probably one more contract. Getting draft picks to eat the Gobert contract could be valuable as the Knicks have done really well mid to late in the draft the past couple of drafts.
Gobert could hide Toppin defensively and allow Toppin to start. Allows RJ Barrett to be the uncontested Alpha on offense. Ball would move better and dumping some veterans would clear minutes for younger players/rookies.
I trust the knicks when it comes to the draft this administration have drafted well. How ever, they havent shown that they are good at evaluating veteran players. Last offseason, they passed up on Lonzo and Derozan. Instead they went after Evan and kemba, the team just had a hard time meshing together. Even if the knicks can manage to bring a superstar without breaking the bank I'm worried how he will mesh with the young core.
Nothing Change in a decade of Knicks off-seasons .. The Knicks #1 priority are getting a decent starter PG !!!
Plus the Knicks will have to put their two most minute played players (Randle & Barrett individual performance) into Check, if they do get a new starter PG in this offseason.

+1 I like that
Knicks have a lot of expiring contracts. They can trade Kemba Noel Burks Topping Taj and picks for a max player. They could also keep Burks and Obi and send out Rose instead. We will have to wait until the playoffs are over but I'm thinking Westbrook Lillard Mitchell and Gobert will all be available. Knicks also need to start thinking about the 2023 draft, no way we can use all of our 6 picks.
The expiring contracts and picks will be worth more towards the deadline- someone will pull an Orlando/ Indiana and blow the whole thing up. Smart money maybe is to do nothing unless we can trade those assets for a franchise point guard.

Randle for Gobert makes a lot of sense for our roster. I like that deal a lot. I just don’t see the Knicks making a big trade with Utah that doesn’t include Mitchell.

Todays nba is more about building a young, athletic roster that can space and pace as well as cut to the basket. Superstar hero ball isn’t what it was during the 90’s and early 2000’s. Continue to draft well and find a starting PG

I’m not low on him at all. I love his ceiling on defense. Plus he can make free throws. What a concept
It’s strange why Thibs at least initially hated him. The guy has the it factor as a perimeter defender

Not sure why either but the only thing I can come up with is he moves similar to Knox in that he looks like he's coasting at times... Knox may have given Thibs PTSD and he's scared the loafing with return. I like Cam and agree it would be weird to move him before seeing what he has to offer.

Thibs might have felt it would have interfered with giving Grimes more minutes after he came back. Good point about Cam’s (perceived) lack of intensity in how he moves. The guy is so long and takes such big strides his effortless movement maybe made Thibs feel he was Knox 2.0

Now I feel obligated to finally replace my Carmelo jersey lol.

Often injured and no defense players. Past their defensive prime LeBron and Westbrook. Often injured Davis and LeBron.

They have a chip. They messed up. They still have a chip.
Media drives the micro view of Lebron love and hate.
Kidd had Luka in a game that meant nothing and he got hurt. Shyt happens to other teams also.
Lakers firing Vogel? He won a chip and was not happy with his team or the players FO gave him.
Lebron have anything to do with it? Lets be real, he was there with walton and likley blessed Vogal hiring and they won.
That FO is a mess. Got both Rambis’s, Pelinka, Jeanne, and Magic in his Rasputin role (Isiah Thomas Like) in Jeannes ear. Yet, they got a bubble chip.
Who cares, we got our own shit.
Is this scenario viable? Only if the knicks stay at 11 or move back, should the knicks pick Duren or Mark Williams to essentially replace Mitch. Then just do a sign and trade with Dallas to swap Mitch with Brunson. That will take care of the Center and PGs. In this case Sims might be the starter. Is there still enough pieces to trade for a star/very good SG or SF without including the youths? Maybe packanging Randle, Noel, and Cam plus picks? I would rather keep Cam though. Hopefully they find a home for Kemba,Burks or Evan.
I hope the knicks can follow the path Memphis, Toronto and Atlanta with this rebuild.
I think there is something off with the FO and Thibs. The FO is trying to say the right things but Thibs is focused on winning every game by playing his Vets alot of minutes. I hope the rumor that Berman said about Thibs regretting not playing the youth sooner is true, it gives hope the youth might see more significant playing time next year. Why cant Thibs trust the young knicks more. Maxey is playing huge minutes for the 76er, same draft class as IQ. Cam johnson was drafted 2019 and he is now a candidate for 6th man of the year.
Any chance we can trade Randle for Brunson? Randle get's to go home and ruin Luka and we finally have a guy who can play PG.
