“As far as Thibs’ performance goes, I mean he’s one of the best coaches in the NBA,’’ Rose said. “So obviously, none of us are happy with the results this year. But he’s a guy who prepares our team better than anybody. I feel that he’s done a good job under the circumstances.’’
This to me is the money quote. If the Knicks were planning on firing Thibodeau, it would have already happened (Vogel). With the way Thibs gets stars in his eyes talking about Randle, I don't see how/ why Rose would trade him. Let's say the Knicks have a Randle/ Giannis trade on the table- I still think Thibs would come up with reasons why NY should keep Julius.
Last mid 1st pick the Knicks played during rookie year was Kevin Knox. I prefer Thibs method of slowly bringing guys along. I think some people get the horse and cart messed up. Obi and Quickley have improved because of Thibs, not despite.

In an organization focused on value, it would seem they would be more inclined to work with him and get him back to an all star level. Sorry, mob.
Mitch I feel is more iffy -- depends on price right? But it looks like they would prefer to keep him.
Just thoughts -- who knows?
Mitch Rob, we all love his effort & what he's doing when on floor healthy. However his durability does him in at such a young age.
Dont wanna lose Robinson for a nickle or dime either!

Mitch and or Randle is going to Dallas. What we get back in the deal, who knows? Hope it’s not Brunson.

It’s not crazy to think the Mavs might want Randle even with his contract. Their roster is soft they could actually use a PF like Randle

My bet is the fans would like to see Obi start the 4. Randle brought bad feelings with the fabs upon himself. If he comes back abs plays similar to this season— which keeps obi at 12-15 min— it’s gonna be another bad season. Knicks fans were cool w Julius — He turned much harder on them.

Bondy: “Cameras caught you giving thumbs down to the crowd. What was that about?”
Randle: “Shut the fuck up”
Randle will be traded.
Mitch will go to the highest bidder.
We have Obi.
We have Sims and there are some good centers in the draft.
This draft is not weak.
We will be good next year if RJ, IQ and Obi improve. That’s our core.
The team is over the cap letting Mitch go for nothing is bad business.

It's now been a week since the season ended and having some time to reflect, I blame most of this season on Randle. His decline in play, his lack of leadership and poise were the main culprits this season. He has to go. I'm just not sure management feels the same.

Randle might shoulder much blame, but without him the assumption is that OBI would have carried the PF spot as he did the last 3 games of teh season? That I cannot in hindsight agree on.
Obi, or any other player had to earn his coaches confidence. This season might have been that exact process. We don’t know. We’ll find out.
Randle stats are not that easily replaced. ITs easy to say “Be gone with the difficult one” but to whom plays in his place? Going forward if banished no doubt I’d root for OBI to fill and exceed.
How does Randle get gone? So many things to consider. WE already might need a starting center if mitch walks. Also an upgrade at guard is desired. With that, much chemistry change could happen. Does that enhance randle’s skill set or add to his deficits? What is his trade value and to what team would see him as an asset? What return do we get, and does that really help? Its one thing to extract him but what comes back?

Like anything else, we need to make an educated guess on how Randle will act next season. His actions this year has been bad. From the outside looking in, he looks like he hates NY. Reports of him not liking NY is all over the place, but then again this is all speculation. Unless, he actually says it with words, we will never know.
With anything, there are obvious ramifications that we need to understand. The biggest one is as you mentioned, his stats...can we replace that? Not sure. However, his actions in a team game is counter productive. I truly believe in team chemistry and he is not doing it for the Knicks right now. He still has value and we have a potential replacement in Obi. I think that is more than enough to justify trading Randle away.

so was the meeting at the mav's game between Randle and Wes, Alan Houston accidental or planned?

Clearly Planned they sat together… it’s just weird because most players and teams wouldn’t do that because it’s sort of tacky.
It definitely sent the message that they are aligned so expect Randle back. If I was a FO I would actually call to see what Obi was going for.
Philc1@ 4/19/2022 9:04 AM
If Cuban wants Randle he can have him.

So many reads about this. The flag they put on the moon had springs in it. Its why it looks like its in the wind. Otherwise it just draps. Flag moved when they twisted the pole. Randle is from Dallas so he might have gottn his seat from Kncks. He might not be as salty as we project? Maybe he got a coupon for hot dog and soda from management? Dennis is not from Dallas, but he played for both teams. Maybe we will bring him back for another look? He was teamate with Randle, they could be friends. Maybe he in town to work out with Randle! Maybe he just there and saying hello. Not everything has subliminal conspiratorial meaning.

Food for thought, outside of Fournier everyone on the Knicks (Randle, RJ, Burks, IQ) shot 3s at a lower % than last season. I don't think we should act like it was an issue unique to Randle, the team needed a better PG.

When your % drops by 11 points and the others don't, it's unique.
Including Burks cause his % dropped from .415 to .404 is flat disingenuous. People won't take you seriously if you keep that up.

Mea Culpa. Randle for sure had the biggest drop, I don't want to disguise that. Just trying to give it some context. Plenty of games where a 3 point make in the last minute would have turned the tide. Not all of those were on Julius.

Sure they are. You are looking at a few counting stats, points and rebounds. If you look at the deep dive overall advanced stats around Randle, sure that's easy to replace.
Because you have to account for how Randle's bullshit selfish play this season negatively impacted the entire team offense and the entire team defense.
How hard is it to replace a guy who gave up on the team, acted like a total asshole, treated his teammates and the fans like shit and just chucked up a bunch of bad shots because he can't own actual accountability in self inflicting all this needless drama onto himself and this franchise?
Give someone enough shots and minutes and freedom to do whatever he wants as the primary offensive option, even while playing like a total dick, like Randle got to this year, and someone somewhere will drive some kind of counting stats.
You aren't replacing Randle with one player, you are REPLACING HIM WITH THE NET POSITIVE ACROSS THE ENTIRE TEAMS PRODUCTION WHEN HE'S GONE FOR GOOD.

I'll take it a step further. I'd say there are at least 70 guys, excluding the All NBA teamers, in the league who could score about 20 points a game if you gave them 17 shots and told them all they needed to do is shoot 40% from the field, with an eFG of 46% and a TS% 50%. Randle was aggressively putrid shooting the ball and he killed the offense.

The season before Randle's attitude was the biggest asset. Didn't Kobe have a lot of the same issues during his career after Shaq left- that he was stealing shots from more efficient options? I actually like Randle's attitude- reminds me of Oakley. There's also a dirtiness to it- one of my favorite plays of the season was a needless offensive foul at the end of a win vs Charlotte repaying a hard foul from the first half. Yeah, it's bad sportsmanship but knowing that the team has a backbone should also mean something.
I feel here with Thibodeau is the most likely situation to turn it around. We can always move him next season if he can't get mentally right. Selling low on Randle and entering another rebuild seems like a drastic step for a team that mostly lost on the margins.
